The folks over at VG Bootcamp recently went live with another installment of Smash @ Xanadu from Xanadu Games in Baltimore, Maryland. These weekly broadcasts provide a great look at the region’s Smash community, and tonight’s installment will feature competition in Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. 64.

This week’s installment of Next Level Battle Circuit is now streaming live courtesy of Team Spooky. As always, the event is being broadcast from its namesake, Next Level Arcade, in New York City. Earlier today, a few folks from NetherRealm Studios provided a special live stream, featuring tons of new footage for the upcoming Mortal Kombat X. Much of the discussion revolved around a few of the variations each character possesses, most notably those of Kotal Kahn and Quan Chi, both of which had been given relatively little spotlight during previous demonstrations.
Starting off, Kotal’s Blood God variation focuses on his use of three specific totems and the buffs they impart. The first, made of obsidian, lessens the damage he takes from enemy attacks, while the crystal totem is more offensive in nature, imparting a boost to attack power that can be combined with his Blood Offering special (which sacrifices health for a damage bonus) to drop ridiculous amounts of health from an opponent’s life bar. The blood totem is a bit different in that it steals energy from the enemy as Kotal lands attacks, storing it in the small figure and replenishing his life until the ancient fighter himself is hit.
As a Sun God, however, Kotal’s offense is mostly derived from the variations unique command grab. Each successful attempt to grab the opponent with this attack adds another hit to the string, capping out at three. Kotal can then use the stored energy to continue dealing bigger damage with the command grab or use it to restore his health, meter, or both resources in one shot, though we assume at smaller amounts.
The spells Quan Chi gains as a Sorcerer, on the other hand, act on the battlefield, affecting either the necromancer himself or his opponent should they be standing in their respective fields of influence. One adds continuous damage to few special attacks that drains the opponent’s health after they are hit, the second increases block damage when foes find themselves within its radiating orange circle, and the last gives Quan Chi a single hit of armor that regenerates after a period of time.
The stream also provided some complementary information on variations for Sub-Zero, Scorpion, D’Vorah, and more, as well as new footage of a few fatalities that had yet to play out full during previous showings. If you missed out, be sure to check out the entire archive below.
Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-‘s console release may only be a month away (December 4 in Japan, December 16 in North America), but Arc System Works still has plenty of news coming. Similar to Arc System Works’ other recent releases, Xrd will be sporting a massive online lobby system that supports up to 64 players. You can find details on the mode and more from the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu below.
Network Mode’s Online Lobby System: Gather with Up to 64 Players in a Single Lobby!
In GGXrd’s Network Mode, a maximum of 64 players can gather in a massive lobby. In this lobby you can group up with friends, create a versus room, battle under various conditions, comment while spectating, chat using character voices and more. In addition, in Online Training Mode, two players can play and practice together.
When entering an online lobby, you’ll see tons of players, connected in real time! Within the lobby, you can send chat messages to all member of the lobby. Try sending a greeting to everyone.
Versus rooms have the same functionality as those of Player Match. You can customize the room to your liking. Not only can you battle with friends, but you can also create chat-only rooms. Find buddies with the same interest and have fun!
Versus replay data can be saved on the game system and on online severs. Save your notable matches with friends, make use of battle analysis and share with other players. Replay data also supports frame-by-frame playback.
The “Dual Sword Lion King” Leo Whitefang Joins the Battle!
In addition to Sin and Elphelt, another new character will be joining the cast in the console version! Leo Whitefang is one of the kings of the Allied Kingdom of Illyria. His fighting style and other details remain a mystery however, for the time being. Stay tuned for more information.

Make Battles Lively with DLC Character System Voices!
You can change the system voice you hear during character selection and matches to the voices of the GGXrd cast with DLC. Including the just announced Leo, there are a total of 17 character voices. The DLC will be available for download within 2014.
Today, NetherRealm Studios will be connecting with the community for a special Mortal Kombat X broadcast. Like their streams for Injustice: Gods Among Us, this program will give fans the opportunity to check out new footage of the upcoming fighter as well as ask any pertinent questions they may have leading up to its release next year.

We’ve got another round of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 tech for you today featuring a good selection of characters and team compositions. Hopefully you’ll see something useful here, if not, there’s always the next roundup!
To get things started, we’ve got a clip from The Black Eye’s Kane Blueriver featuring Haggar. This combo dishes out massive damage and may be the best numbers that he can put out when left by himself. If you’re looking for a good way to secure that Mayoral comeback, this could be the strategy that you need.
In this interesting bit of tech from Marvelo, we see Captain America provide Doctor Doom with a hard tag entrance. Once the Latverian takes the stage, he’s free to do what he does best: let the Foot Dives flow! In this case, the resulting combo tops 900,000 damage, so it’ll take care of plenty of cast members without issue.
To close things out, we’ve got a team synergy showcase from e mc that shows off a team comprised of Super-Skrull, Doctor Strange, Storm and revolves around a hard tag followed by a Team Hyper Combo. If Skrull lands a throw in the corner, Strange can come in, activate the THC and unleash hand loops until the bad guys’ health drains entirely.
Sweden-based Marvel group The Marvelous Vikings have been pumping out useful Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 tech videos for quite some time now. A great deal of those videos come from fallb0rn, who has become known for his mastery of Super-Skrull and Rocket Raccoon, among other things.
His latest, however, includes a lengthy set of incredibly useful reset options available to Dante when he’s paired up with the Master of Magnetism himself, Magneto.
These setups combine Dante’s incredible mobility with Magneto’s Disruptor assist to put opponents into a guessing game that could crack even the toughest defenses. Fallb0rn provides a look at both cross-unders and fake cross-unders, as well as Dante’s options should he expect something like a Foot Dive or an upward dash from a desperate opponent.
If your Dante could use a new best buddy, why not give Erik a shot?
Shining series crossover fighter Blade Arcus from Shining recently landed in Japanese arcades and, to commemorate this event, Sega has released a shiny new video to show off what the game has to offer.
The trailer highlights the game’s ten playable characters–two newcomers and eight veterans from Shining games past and present. Not shown, however, is Shining Hearts’ Rick Elwood who, contrary to earlier reports, will be joining the title next year alongside one other as of yet unannounced character.
If you’re planning to attend this year’s Capcom Cup in San Francisco, Capcom has just released some important details for the event, including the official schedule and a hotel deal for folks visiting from outside the area.
Aside from the main tournament, Capcom Cup 2014 will also feature a special Omega Mode exhibition. Additionally, some time is being set aside for special announcements–Capcom hasn’t given any hint as to what these announcements are, and they could be range from something as simple as Omega Mode’s release date or something more.

While Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-‘s console port is still a month away, its predecessor Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R is already available on PlayStation 3. For those interested in checking out the earlier installment out in preparation for Xrd, it is currently available free of charge for PlayStation Plus subscribers in Japan.
The game is part of a batch of Japanese-developed games that Sony is making available through their premium service in November. Other games included are Earth Defense Force 2025 and The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky The 3rd.
While the offer is only available for Japanese PlayStation Plus subscribers, the region-free nature of the platform means that anyone can create a an account for the region and subscribe to the premium service to avail themselves of this offer. Bear in mind that, unlike Microsoft’s Games with Gold program on Xbox One and Xbox 360, you will need to maintain your subscription to continue playing the game.
