Just a day after we posited that Eevee might be a playable character in Bandai Namco Games’ upcoming fighter Pokkén Tournament, confirmation has arrived.

This news comes courtesy of an official document that was released ahead of this weekend’s location tests, which are set to take place at Namco’s own game centers in the Japanese cities of Kawasaki and Osaka. In addition to describing a variety of gameplay mechanics, many of which have been covered in a previous report, the system guide also covers which Pokémon will act as support characters for the main cast.

Two of the pairs (Pachirisu and Fennekin, Snivy and Lapras) were present when the game was shown off by directors Katsuhiro Harada and Masaaki Hoshino at Famitsu, but the duo of Frogadier and Eevee (pictured to the right) is new to the location test build.

Support Pokémon work similarly to assists in the Marvel series, entering the battle with the touch of a button to provide back-up for the main character. Frogadier, for instance, tosses out a disk-shaped projectile that can travel long distances, while Eevee grants a bonus to attack power and recovers health.

Public exhibitions will run this weekend from January 30 to February 1, during which time we’ll probably receive more gameplay footage and information.

Pokkén Tournament is expected to arrive in Japanese arcades sometime this year.

Those fans who grew up with Capcom’s fighting game franchises in the may remember that many of them received animated adaptations back in the 1990s. Now, thanks to Discotek Media, these same fans may be able to relive some of these animated classics.

In a series of posts on Facebook, Discotek Media have revealed details on three upcoming re-releases of classic Capcom cartoons and animé. First up is the DVD and Blu-Ray release of Street Fighter II the Animated Movie. Released in 1996, this gem was considered by many to be superior to the 1994 live-action adaptation starring Jean-Claude Van Damme. The movie also inspired the look of the Street Fighter Alpha series of games.

Specific details about this release, including what languages it’ll include and whether it’ll be the uncut version, will be given out at a later date.

In addition to this, Discotek is also hard at work on a release of the Street Fighter II cartoon. Originally aired on the USA Network, the cartoon is a loose continuation of the plot of the original live-action Street Fighter movie. No specific details on this release have been divulged as of yet.

Finally, Discotek will also be releasing Nightwarriors: Darkstalkers Revenge. Originally released in 1997, this 4-episode OVA will be coming with both the original Japanese language track (with subtitles) and the subsequent english dub.

For some time now, Bandai Namco and Nintendo’s Pokken Tournament has only had a nebulous “2015” release date. That has changed as Bandai Namco have announced that the game will be hitting Japanese arcades later this summer.

The announcement was made at the 2015 Japan Amusement Expo (JAEPO2015) that’s taking place this weekend in Chiba, Japan. Alongside the announcement, the company also released some new screenshots, including images of the special cabinets to be used for the game, which you see in the gallery below.

Advance Guard have just dropped the trailer for Abuget Cup 2015.  Part of the Beast of the East Tour, Abuget Cup is also the first Capcom Pro Tour ranking event for the South East Asia region for 2015.

The Abuget Cup is Indonesia’s premiere fighting game tournament with some of the best players in the country as well as from the rest of the region coming to fight. Its inclusion in the Capcom Pro Tour should help bring attention to these fighters, many of whom have yet to gain recognition in outside the region.

With so much focus on their King of Fighters series, it’s sometimes easy to forget that SNK’s fighting empire started with the original Fatal Fury back in 1991. Now, Italian fan studio SEEP have taken the old game, and remade it as a 2D beat ‘em up.

Fatal Fury Final is a fan-game that retells the story of the original Fatal Fury. Instead of a traditional fighter, however, the game has been turned into a sidescroller where the playable characters go through various hordes of thugs.

The game retains the old school Neo-Geo aesthetic, so much so that it could be mistaken for an old, unreleased game. Aside from the regular story mode, the game also has a South Town Quest mode that allows players to use not just the original three playable characters, but the non-playable bosses as well.

If you’re a fan of the original though, never fear, because the regular one-on-one gameplay can still be selected in a separate mode.
