Locke Cole from Final Fantasy VI is Dissidia Final Fantasy NT’s second DLC character

Square Enix has revealed the identity of Dissidia Final Fantasy NT‘s second DLC character! From the SNES classic Final Fantasy VI (or Final Fantasy III as it was originally labeled as in the USA) we have none other than the “treasure hunter” Locke Cole.

Locke — a treasure hunter, who definitely isn’t a thief — was shown off in a trailer as part of Square Enix’s recent live stream. For those who aren’t familiar with Final Fantasy VI, Locke is one of the first characters players get to use (unlike later titles in the series, FFVI doesn’t really have a central “main character” per se), and helps start off the events of the game when he’s recruited to rescue Terra during the game’s opening mission.

In addition to the trailer, Square Enix also detailed Locke’s alternate costumes and weapons. You can check these out, alongside some new artwork from legendary artist Yoshitaka Amano, in the gallery below.

With the reveal of Locke, we now have only 4 remaining DLC characters. The hints that Square Enix have given about their identities are as follows.

  • New female character
  • New male character
  • Female character who previously appeared in Dissidia Final Fantasy series
  • New male character

All of these characters will be from the latter half of the Final Fantasy series.

Locke is set to arrive on Dissidia Final Fantasy for arcades on May 17, followed by Dissidia Final Fantasy NT on PlayStation 4 in June.

J King shows off the techniques available using King’s Frankensteiner in Tekken 7

King’s Frankensteiner is a peculiar move with unique properties. Counting as an untechable throw when the opponent is standing, it can also count as a hit when they are grounded. But beyond that, there are a plethora of setups and follow-ups for this move that must be known in order to reach its full potential.

When used as a grab, there are many uses for King’s down 3+4 while his back is turned, and can lead to interesting okizeme setups. But even more useful are his tricks to corner carry, using this move as a way to set it up.

InfernoKong shows off a true champion’s might with this The King of Fighters XIV’s combo video

No one flexes harder than The King of Fighters XIV‘s Antonov, and no-one’s Antonov flexes harder than dedicated Antonov pro APE OF THE U N I V E R S E, a.k.a. InfernoKong. If you aren’t convinced yet about the potential of this character in version 3.0, maybe InfernoKong’s latest combo video will change your mind:

Antonov received a number of buffs to his Bering Wave, and a host of new cancel options into the move. This has helped both his damage output and, more importantly, his neutral game in 3.0.

NurseLee’s Guile keeps up the pressure with these Knife Edge setups in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition

Guile’s 2-bar V-Trigger II, Knife Edge, has proven to be a powerful addition to the boom-chucker’s arsenal in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition. Not only does it control a large part of the neutral game exceedingly well, it allows Guile to cash in some high-damage combos off of stray Flash Kicks. As NurseLee demonstrates in his latest setup video, the fun doesn’t stop after Knife Edge lands, either:

Inputting Bazooka Knee after landing Knife Edge allows Guile to set up meaties with both f.HP and st.MP, which not only gives Guile stronger combos than he’s normally allowed, but also grants him larger amounts of frame advantage on block. Watch the video above to see these setups in action!

Datamining potentially leaks the entire cast of BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle

All the king’s horses and all the king’s men couldn’t keep leaks from happening again (supposedly)

The remaining DLC characters for BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle may have been discovered prematurely. Twitter user, Ehm dug around the beta version of BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle on the Nintendo Switch and found names for character menu portraits among placeholder and test files.

Ehm also found a text file that lists the characters as well.

If this is accurate, that means the next unannounced DLC characters for BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle are:

BlazBlue:

  • Izayoi
  • Nine the Phantom
  • Mai Natsume

Persona:

  • Akihiko Sanada
  • Labrys
  • Mitsuru Kirijo

Under Night:

  • Merkava
  • Mika
  • Yuzuriha

When asked whether the “not shown” line signified a completely new character to be added to the roster, Ehm was not fully convinced.

Furthermore, this data mining does line up with the previously released silhouettes.

The image above shows the nine additional characters, and it was made before the recent datamining from Ehm. It looks like the pieces are lining up, but still, we will await comment from Arc System Works to see if there is any validity to this apparent leak.

Blade Strangers extended opening animation showcases the latest additions to the cast

BornFree interviews rising Dragon Ball FighterZ star Wong Nation|Lost Soul

“I just really wanted to hit buttons, but I also wanted to go to the tournaments.”

One of the players that can potentially make it through the Summit of Power voting is the fascinating Lost Soul, a man who may have been born without a first name, but was born with a natural ability to take control of fighting games. At 8 years old he was already ruthlessly rushing down adults in X-men vs. Street Fighter, and needless to say, he’s only gotten better since then: he’s won at NLBC, and he’s scored the support of FGC legend Echo Fox|Justin Wong.

He’s also the subject of BornFree’s latest interview. which is chock-full of a life of interesting stories and great advice. Take a look above to find out about Lost Soul’s own bouts with stubbornness, his rise to the top, and the origins of his tournament name.

If you like BornFree’s interviews, why not give his YouTube channel a look?

Learn how to apply Delayed Tech and Negative Edge techniques in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition

World Warrior FGC‘s “Git Gud” series is designed to help new players get to the next level with advanced techniques and analysis of common spots in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition matches. In today’s video, he’s covering Delayed Tech and Negative Edge techniques.

For those unfamiliar, Delayed Tech is a method of defense to protect you against the throw/button mix-up, and negative edge is a method of input involving the release of an attack button rather than another press. Check out the video above for examples and applications of each in SFV!

Is Street Fighter V the most top-heavy fighter in over a decade? Twin Galaxies discusses the game’s character (im)balance

No items. Guile only. Air Force Base.

The Street Fighter V tier situation — that is, the disparity between what the characters that are considered high tier, and the characters that are considered low tier, can accomplish in the game — is a pretty hot topic at the moment. It leads to the perception that some players are now professing: the game’s top tiers are too good, and be it due to the game’s overall mechanics, or individual character tools, or both, the lower tiers just aren’t “viable” enough.

While many players call for balancing via buffing weaknesses rather than nerfing strengths, Capcom has always been very liberal with the application of the nerf bat on SFV, often in somewhat cryptic ways. In this article on Twin Galaxies (as part of the Life of a Low-Tier Hero series) Jeff Kotuby argues that the result is a situation where the “haves” outstrip the “have-nots” so completely that there’s only one way to assure victory and enjoyment in SFV: pick a top tier.

Now, who is exactly in the current “haves” club is also open to debate: Guile, Cammy, Akuma, and Abigail are regular mentions as examples of how “top-heavy” SFV has become. Kotuby themselves talks about how they’ve gotten greater success and fun out of the game by dropping Ryu for Akuma — which other Ryu mains have as well, if they haven’t dropped SFV altogether. But what if you want to be a “low tier hero” and win with a have-not? Kotuby links to some Twin Galaxies resources to help you take that approach as well.

Read the full article here. Is Street Fighter V imbalanced to the point of being broken? Are there some mid-to-high tier fighters still being slept on? Sound off in the comments.
