rooflemonger goes over system mechanics in BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle

This in-depth look sheds light on what’s new with BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle

Now that the beta has begun, many players have been busy practicing BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle, which switches up the regular Arc System Works formula considerably.

Fighting game guide rooflemonger is tackling the newest ASW game with a walkthrough of the gameplay mechanics. It’s a fairly relaxed video, divided into a few sections — starting with a general overview of the game’s bars and buttons. At about 5:20, he ventures into the defensive mechanics, including the risky Dragon Punch. rooflemonger then discusses pushblock which operates à la Marvel vs. Capcom. After that, he delves into the tag system, covering how to effectively weave your partner into combos and neutrals. Finally, rooflemonger explains Resonance Blaze, BBTAG’s “X-Factor” mechanic.

All in all, the video is a nice look at what to expect from BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle and its gameplay mechanics. If you prefer a guide that displays inputs and is a little more concise, check out this JP BBTAG system primer instead.

The SRK Rollback: Best of May 4-10, 2018

Welcome to the Rollback: a frame-by-frame look back at our past week’s most notable news — and our favorite SRK articles — from May 4 to May 10, 2018!

Frame 1:
Table_salt_with_salt_shaker_V1Core-A Gaming tackles the intricacies of salt and fairness in their latest video

Core-A Gaming always knocks it out of the park with their insightful and in-depth examination of all things fighting games, and the salty subject addressed here is no exception.

Frame 2:

Depending on whom you play and how you play them (and how prone you are to hyperbole) this patch was either rather minimal overall, or devastating to your game plan…

Crow_Spaceboy spent some time digging as deep as he could into the build of SCVI on display at Texas Showdown, and lays out the pros and cons of what he learned about the game. For character-specific thoughts, check out Part 2 as well!

Capcom details the Training and Versus modes in the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection

Capcom really wasn’t going to add these functions in, until the community cried out that they wanted them…? Developers can be… weird. At least they’re listening, and this collections looks better and better for it.

This thing is incredible, but sadly I also need to… eat… food? So I won’t be buying this anytime soon.

Shovel Knight swings into Blade Strangers as its next guest character

Blade Strangers is getting stranger by the second!

Nicalis, Inc. continues its surprise announcement spree for Blade Strangers by enriching its roster with the presence of none other than Shovel Knight, the star platformer from the game of the same name.

Shovel Knight boasts an impressive sprite size, particularly in contrast with Isaac from Binding of Isaac, another surprise character that was recently revealed. Shovel Knight certainly looks like a fighter to reckon with, even judging by his size and reach alone. Nicalis also recently announced the guest characters Gunvolt from Azure Striker Gunvolt, and Quote from Cave Story.

It won’t be long until Blade Strangers releases this summer on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Until then, check out the shovel-rous soldier for yourself below!

Deleted tweet hints that Bandai Namco may be involved in the development of Super Smash Bros. for Switch

Nintendo and Bandai Namco seem to have a very close relationship nowadays. The latter has been involved with a number of the Big N’s games, specifically Pokkén Tournament and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U & 3DS. Now, it seems that Bandai Namco may once again be involved with Smash.

Recently, Tiago Sonobe, a former developer at Bandai Namco, tweeted that the new Super Smash Bros. for the Switch would be using an engine that he developed. In addition to this, however, he stated that he left the company before production of the game began.

The plot thickens though, when you consider that based on his LinkedIn profile, Sonobe is now an engineer at Nintendo. Also both the tweet and Sonobe’s Twitter account have now been deleted. Fortunately for us, some people — such as Twitter user IceDoesn’tHelp — were able to capture a screenshot of the tweet.

Neither Nintendo nor Bandai Namco have officially commented on this as of this time. That said, the latter working on the new Super Smash Bros. game for the Switch wouldn’t be unprecedented, considering that they did the same for the game’s previous iteration.

Taiwan’s Capcom Pro Tour Premier event TWFighter Major 2018 gets bumped from June to August

A slight change of plans for an important stop on the fighting game circuit in Asia.

Taiwan’s Premier stop on the Capcom Pro Tour this year is going to suffer a bit of a delay — due to a venue-related issue, TWFighter Major 2018 has been rescheduled from its original dates in June to new dates in August, on the 18th and 19th.

If you need to change any travel plans, don’t delay! In addition to being a Capcom Pro Tour 2018 Premier event for Street Fighter V, TWFighter Major 2018 will also feature competition in The King of Fighters XIV, Tekken 7, and Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2. Check out event details on the official website.

Soon Steam will let you stream your games to your Android or mobile device

We’re getting another step closer to being able to access our PC gaming library in any place — whether it’s our bathroom or our bedroom. Though it already has been possible with a Steam Link device, Valve announced today that soon they will unveil the Steam Link app for mobile devices. The app will let iOS and Android users direct access to their full Steam library without any other devices, for as long as they are on the same network.

Any other devices powered by the two major mobile technology providers, such as Android or Apple TVs, will also be able to take advantage of this. For now, we know that Valve will support the “Steam Controller, MFI controllers, and more across both platforms.” The rollout begins on May 21st for iOS and Android, though the Android release will be a beta, initially.

Provided that the connection is stable, this could be a turning point for the fighting game market, which has been increasingly present on the PC market. Dragon Ball FighterZ has been record-setting on Steam, and every major fighting game is either on that platform or heading to it, like BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle and SoulCalibur VI.

The BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle beta is coming to all US Nintendo Switch users, European beta information announced

Big news about the BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle beta! Arc System Works has been quiet regarding the Nintendo Switch version, but the announcement is even better than expected. Also, our European anime fans finally find out some news regarding the pre-release access.

Whether you pre-ordered or not, anyone can download the Nintendo Switch demo of BBTAG. The demo works similarly to the PSN BBTAG beta, which contains 20 characters and a few select modes. It’s available from 10:00 PM PT on May 10th, and the demo will work past the beta period — but with only four characters. So the demo is free, but on the flipside, there’s no way to have an extended “fuller” beta with 20 characters until the game’s June 5th release. If you have questions about the beta, Arc System Works posted a new FAQ on their site.

Until now, we’ve only heard that Europe is getting BBTAG “sometime in the summer,” but publisher PQube announced via Twitter that the release is slated for June (unspecified day, but it’s at least the same month as the US version). Additionally, there be an offline demo for the European region starting from May 18th until release. Sadly, the European Nintendo Switch users are out of luck, as there is no demo for them at all.
