Angry Joe announces “Street Fighter: The Miniatures Game” collectible figure game

Ever wanted to take the fight outside the digital realm? In fighting games–and video gaming in general–there is a large overlap with collectible card games and miniature games such as Warhammer 40,000 and Heroclix. The  legacy of the Street Fighter series, then, seems to be a natural fit for these formats.

Angry Joe has announced his impending Street Fighter-themed collectible game Street Fighter: The Miniatures Game. In this trailer, he shows off the miniature figures — all of which are exquisite in detail. There is no release date yet, but the work on the project looks amazing.

Injustice 2 Ground Zero SXSW Gaming 2018 results

This past weekend, before Final Round 2018 kicked off in Atlanta, Georgia, several of the world’s finest Injustice 2 players headed to SXSW Gaming 2018 at the Austin Convention Center in Austin, Texas to compete for the lion’s share of a whopping $20,000 in prize money, with $6,000 going to the first-place victor. With no Echo Fox|Sonic Fox in sight to claim the glory, it was truly anyone’s game. The full prize breakdown for top 8 was as follows:

Mikado Arcade’s Street Fighter Carnival X continues with World Warriors Perfect, Samurai Shodown 64 tournaments

Street Fighter Carnival X is Mikado Arcade’s currently-ongoing multi-game tournament series for a wide variety of classic (and sometimes, obscure) arcade titles. To see the beginning of these high-level Japanese tournaments, go here!

We have two tournaments to add to the long list of SFCX tournaments this year. First, Samurai Shodown 64 ( Samurai Spirits in Japan). This was SNK’s first foray into 3D fighters; it drifts pretty far from the core elements of the Shodown series thanks to duckable grabs and longer combos, among other mechanics.

Following this, we have the fast-paced battle’s of ADK’s World Heroes Perfect. Mikado Arcades patrons make it clear very quickly who their favorite character in this game is — and if you’re unfamiliar with the cast, you’ll know soon enough whom the background cries are mimicking.

You can follow the action of SFCX by subscribing to Mikado’s official YouTube channel. For the night owls in the US, you can even try to catch them when they livestream.

New 2GG tournament SwitchFest to run events for ARMS, Pokkén Tournament DX, and more

A new event for Nintendo competitors is on the horizon.

2GG — a California-based company that organizes and broadcasts Super Smash Bros. events — announced a new tournament for April called SwitchFest in Long Beach, CA.

Competitors can register for the following:

  • ARMS – Free Entry with $500 Prize Pool
  • Splatoon 2 – Free Entry with $500 Prize Pool
  • Pokkén Tournament DX – Free Entry with $500 Prize Pool

Though Switch games are obviously the focus of SwitchFest, there will also be a Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U side event. Early bird registration is available until April 6th, when the registration fee will go up to $40.00.

There will be Ladder events for each game as well, but you need to have your own Nintendo Switch to participate. Visit the SwitchFest smash.gg page for details about the event and to sign up.

Whether you’re planning to travel for the event or just watch it, mark your calendars — SwitchFest takes place April 21-22, 2018.

AnimEVO to announce the first wave of games for their tournament lineup on March 26th

With Evo 2018 fast approaching, the largest side-event organizer for Evo has also begun their preparations. AnimEVO — whom, as the name implies, focuses on anime-based fighters — is in the throes of topping last year’s 500 unique entrants across 17 games.

With the intent of revealing their first wave of games, AnimEVO staff has announced that they will be appearing on Team Spooky’s Super Desperation Radio on Monday at 7:00 PM PST. With a lot of possible titles — including some new ones in the lineup — it will be exciting to see what makes the cut.

Thaiger Uppercut 2018 streaming live from Bangkok, Thailand

Thailand’s largest yearly fighting game event is this weekend! Thaiger Uppercut 2018 in Bangkok is a stop in the Capcom Pro Tour (as a Ranking Event) and the Tekken World Tour (Challenger Tournament).

A number of strong competitors from across the region and beyond will be in attendance. Players include Tokido, Bonchan, Itabashi Zangief, sako, Dogura, INFILTRATION, Xian, Xiaohai, Dakou, Big Bird, K-Brad, Knee, qudans, LowHigh, JeoDDing, Chanel, Book, Tanukana and more. Three streams will be covering the event. TGU’s main channel will cover Street Fighter V pools and all main event finals; TGU’s secondary channel will cover Tekken 7 pools; and KZCafe will cover all side event finals. You can find each stream below.

Mini-documentary explores the local Street Fighter V community at 16-Bit Bar + Arcade in Columbus, Ohio

With all the continuing growth the fighting game community is experiencing with esports, sponsors, social media, and bigger cash payouts, it might be easy to forget where most of what we now have originally started: the local arcade scene. So, with that said, it’s nice when someone takes it upon themselves to show where their local scene comes from and who represents their region.

In this almost seven-minute mini-documentary — simply titled “SFV” — by Matt Herrick takes us on a visual tour of 16-Bit Bar + Arcade in Columbus, Ohio. At this local bar/arcade spot in the Midwest, plenty of drinks are served next to retro arcade games such as Donkey Kong, Tron, Galaga — and classic fighters such Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes, and Killer Instinct are in abundance. It’s also at this venue where Beatdown at the Bit weekly tournaments are held for Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition.

Matt also interviews local players Sarah “litebriteRPG” Opelt, Brian “ocelotyouth” Opelt, and Red Bull Proving Grounds finalist Rob “RobTV” Burney. They talk about when they first started playing the Street Fighter series, and how they feel being a part of the fighting game community.

Kelot Cup 5 results

While the first Master event of the 2018 Tekken World Tour was raging on at Final Round 2018 in Atlanta, Georgia, many top Japanese Tekken 7 players were conspicuous by their absence: as Kelot Cup 5 was being held in Tokyo, Japan. The fifth iteration of the semi-annual 3v3 Team Tournament, with nearly 100 different squads participating. Notably, the Yamasa trio of Nobi, Take, and Yuu were split up among three different teams, adding another interesting wrinkle of unpredictability into the proceedings.
