Dragon Ball FighterZ video roundup: Goku breakdown, “Team Volleyball”, and more!

Welcome West City Warriors! Despite living in a post-GO1 world, none of the Dragon Ball FighterZ content that came in recently has been Vegeta-related. If you’re a Goku main, though, there’s plenty of combos and strategies broken down in the video haul below. Let’s jump in!

Starting us off, TrulyAmiracle shows the synergy of “Team Volleyball” (Tien, Piccolo, Gotenks).

Since we last saw him, Mr. Clayton Chapman, aka FinalShowdown, has put his spin on virtually the whole cast. If you haven’t already looked at his innovative work, now’s a good time to check it out:

Famed Tekken content creators That Blasted Salami have turned their high production values to DBFZ. Understandably, they have started their analytical breakdowns with Dragon Ball’s hero, Goku.

YMB9 Sho closes us out today with a quick breakdown on how to stay safe with Frieza.

Tsuyu Asui, Momo Yaoyorozu, and Denki Kaminari coming to My Hero Academia: One’s Justice

Bandai Namco has announced three more characters for My Hero Academia: One’s Justice. Tsuyu Asui, Momo Yaoyorozu, and Denki Kaminari will be playable in the upcoming arena fighter based on the My Hero Academia manga and anime franchise.

The three were announced in a recent issue of Jump magazine. The issue showed the three character as well as some in game screenshots of them.

Of the three, Tsuyu Asui, a.k.a. Froppy, may be the one most people may be familiar — being one of the most popular and memetic characters to come out of the series. For those not familiar with her, her powers basically have her able to do whatever a frog can — something reflected in the screenshots below.

The more conventional-looking Momo Yaoyorozu, a.k.a. Creati, has the power of creation. She’s able to create just about any non-living object out of her body. One quirk of this power is that it’s tied to her food intake. It’ll be interesting to see how this will be represented in game.

Another character with an interesting quirk to his powers, Denki Kaminari, a.k.a. Chargebolt, can produce electricity from his body, to a point. Once he goes over the limit however, he shorts out his brain and lower his intelligence for at least an hour. Again, this may be something fleshed out as a mechanic for him.

We’ll likely learn more about these characters in the near future. In the meantime, check out this scan of the issue from Shonen Gamez.

Tune into Capcom Unity on Twitch today to see more live footage of the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection

See more of these classics in action, courtesy of Capcom Unity.

Early looks at the upcoming Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection — due to arrive on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC sometime this May — from PlayStation Underground and Maximilian were promising in many ways, but raised concerns about potential issues with the gameplay speed, and a lack of non-arcade features. Thankfully, community hands-on experience with a more recent build brought to Final Round 2018 alleviated a lot of concern: not only were the gameplay speeds apparently more arcade-accurate, but many of the original arcade bugs were found to be intact, minus the game-crashing ones. Offline versus mode for Super Street Fighter II Turbo was also confirmed.

If you want to see more of these games prior to their impending release, Capcom Unity wants to show you! Head over to Twitch today (March 20) at 3:30 PM PT to see some more in-game footage direct from Capcom.

Legends become real when Broly and Bardock drop into Dragon Ball FighterZ on April 28

Bandai Namco has just dropped a new Dragon Ball FighterZ trailer; alongside showcasing DLC character Bardock, it also reveals the date of when we’ll be getting both Bardock and Broly: April 28! Alongside Bardock and Broly, Bandai Namco will also be releasing a Commentator Voice Pack, that will allow Chichi, Videl, and Android 18 to commentate fights.

Going back to the trailer: aside from showing some of Bardock’s moves, we also get glimpse of his Super Saiyan form during his Meteor Attack. This was originally shown in a side story called Episode of Bardock which saw him sent back in time due to the destruction of Planet Vegeta. Here, ascending to Super Saiyan while fighting one of Frieza’s ancestors caused said ancestor of Frieza pass on the legend of the Super Saiyan to his descendants.

What’s interesting about this is that this means that both characters in this batch of DLC are related to the Super Saiyan legend — Broly being the “Legendary Super Saiyan”, and Bardock being the one who may have started it (at least when it comes to Frieza’s family!).

Video artist Bitplex re-imagines Mortal Kombat II in 3D pixel-extruded models

Even though we live in a post Mortal Kombat 9 world, it’s hard not to think of Mortal Kombat 4 when you hear the phrase “3D Mortal Kombat”. It was the first game in the series to abandon its signature digitized sprites, and the jump to clunky polygonal models was a jarring experience, for many.

Of course, the ambitious jump to 3D was never going to recreate what they had accomplished in their previous games — particularly not with the technology available in 1997.

But what if the 3D pivot Mortal Kombat took still played with the original series’ sprites? That’s what Bitplex asks with their take on fan-favorite Mortal Kombat II, and the results are fantastic. Instead of forcing more realism onto the MK world, they embrace the unique quality of MK’s original sprites, while still bringing them into the 3D realm.

Rarely do big video game companies pluck an artist to work for their team just based off of fan work — but if NRS did take Bitplex‘s idea and flesh it out into a 3D-ified MKII revision, I imagine it would sell quite well.
