FGC Philosophy discusses how “lazy perfectionism” holds us back from improvement

“Expectations are premeditated resentments.“

If your journey in fighting games has led you to the FGC, that means at some point you had enough fire within you to seek self-improvement. You know that it takes hard work and practice to get to a better “you”. And yet, oftentimes, no matter how aware a player is of what they want, many players will find reasons to not to work for it– even if they want to.

That’s the subject of The Philocypher‘s latest video: the “Lazy Perfectionist.” This is the person aware of the path they want to take, but is unable or unwilling to take it. It’s a struggle that goes beyond fighting games, and it could be holding you back from your growth as a player — and a person.

Early Blastoise gameplay for Pokkén Tournament DX shows off command grabs, stance options

We now know why the well has been dry for Blastoise info for Pokkén Tournament DX — it looks like the producers were saving his reveal for a live demo at Japan’s Spring Fist tournament this weekend.

Now that the turtle has come out of his shell, we can see that Blastoise’s move list is (at first glance) surprisingly diverse. He possess more than a few different types of projectiles from his cannons, each covering various angles in different phases. He also seems to have a “Withdraw” stance in both Duel and Field Phase. Perhaps most interesting, Mr. Cannon-Turtle has an armored, mid-range command grab. Add all this together with his healthy 660 HP lifebar, and you have a tank that’s ready for every phase of the fight.

Blastoise is scheduled for release in Pokkén Tournament DX on March 23rd.

Tekken 7’s arcade version is getting a “Summer Lesson” in costumes on April 4th

Tekken 7 is no stranger to special collaboration content with other IPs — so far, the game has had collaborations for Idolmaster, Taiko Drum Master, and New Japan Pro Wrestling. This time Tekken 7‘s arcade version is getting a special collaboration event with Namco’s own Summer Lesson VR game on April 4.

For those who aren’t familiar with it, Summer Lesson puts the player in the virtual shoes of a tutor who’s tasked with teaching three schoolgirls over the summer. While it seems like a strange IP to collaborate with, Summer Lesson itself is a project of Tekken series producer Katsuhiro Harada.

The collaboration consists of the following items:

  • Hikari Miyamoto costumes for Asuka, Kazumi, Josie, and Eliza
  • Allison Snow costumes for Xiaoyu, Katarina, Master Raven, and Nina
  • Chisato Shinjo costumes for Lili, Lucky Chloe, and Alisa
  • Summer Lesson collaboration interface
  • “Fluffy Allison” item (usable by all characters)
  • “Fluffy Chisato” item (usable by all characters)
  • “Fluffy Hikari” item (usable by all characters)

Whether or not this content will make it into the PlayStation 4, XBox One, and PC versions of Tekken 7 is, as of yet, unknown. However, considering that the previous collaborations with Idolmaster, and Taiko Drum Master did make it into the home versions, it’s likely this one will as well. In the meantime, check out the trailer for the collaboration below.

Here are some new screenshots and details for the 2nd DLC wave for Pokkén Tournament DX

Pokkén Tournament DX is getting its second wave of DLC pretty soon. For those who haven’t caught up with the additions coming to the game, some new details and screenshots have surfaced of the latest playable Pokémon, Blastoise.

There’s also two assist Pokémon being added — Mew has a move unique to this game called Miracle Power. This increases the synergy gauge, as well as both attack power and critical hits. Celebi, on the other hand, uses an attack that causes a Phase Shift (which switches the game from 3D arena phase to its more traditional 2D phase), even when it’s blocked.

In addition to these, the DLC will include new player outfits, and outfits for Nia. The player outfits are a Blastoise T-Shirt, Rock Guitar Set, Bi-Colour Hair, Glasses, and a Refreshing Stole.

Finally, along with the DLC, there will also be a special Group Match called “Gun Destruction”. This event, which runs from March 23 through March 25, is a team battle competition held in the Fixed Battle Arena. Participating in the event will earn players a Blastoise-based title reward, as well as other titles based on their placement.

Blastoise, Mew, and Celebi are coming to Pokkén Tournament DX on March 23. In the meantime, check out these screenshots of the new ‘mon, and of Pokkén’s latest outfits.

IGN takes a detailed look at the SoulCalibur VI trailer for Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher

Looks like the rumors about the White Wolf joining the cast of Bandai Namco’s upcoming fighter were true — Geralt of Rivia is the first official guest character in SoulCalibur VI.

So far, we only have the reveal trailer to look at, but IGN produced a helpful look at the video footage with slowdowns and some speculative analysis. In it, IGN brings up Geralt’s swords — one is steel, and the other is silver, which is used for special monsters.

The SoulCalibur Twitter account wrote that Geralt uses both along with his “Signs” (according to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Signs are “simple magic spells that can prove effective when used properly.”) IGN guesses that the silver weapon would specifically come out for monstrous enemies (e.g. Lizardman), but my personal prediction is that Geralt will take out that sword when activating his “Soul Charge” mechanic. A lot of the video focuses on the Signs that Geralt uses.

We can’t wait to see more of Geralt — and there will be an opportunity to do that at the SoulCalibur VI event in San Francisco at the end of the month.

BoxeR-King shares okizeme setups for King’s Frankensteiner in Tekken 7

King’s Frankensteiner in Tekken 7 is a blockable special mid that turns into a throw on close contact with a standing opponent. At an unimpressive 28 frames, its somewhat slower speed and spacing requirements might completely shy you away from this move. But as Saint showed us with the Jack’s tournament-winning body splash at TWT 2016, you can make some magic work with the right setups for these gimmicky attack-throws.

That’s the meat of BoxeR-King‘s latest tutorial for Tekken’s most famous luchador. Check out the video above for insight on both how to apply this move, and the surprisingly powerful setups King can pressure with afterwards.

Enjoy some new BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle gameplay with these developer matches from PlayStation Arena

Earlier this month, the upcoming BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle was on display at the PlayStation Arena event in Korea, with a pre-release tournament providing us some new gameplay footage of several characters. We now have a look at some additional matches between the developers from the event, courtesy of Bloo561.

Our first match features a battle between the four protagonists, as BlazBlue’s Ragna The Bloodedge and RWBY’s Ruby Rose unite to battle the high school team of Persona 4 Arena’s Yu Narukami and Under Night In-Birth’s Hyde Kido. In addition to hearing the fighters call out their partners names for Assists, (which may be team-dependent), we can also see how much damage Yu — who will likely be an average-health character — takes when his Persona is hit in battle, as well as the fact that Resonance Blaze turns the final hit of his Cross Slash Distortion Skill into the Thunder God Dance.

In the second bout, we see Es and Chie Satonaka taking on Hazama and Yukiko Amagi. Fans of the “Unconquerable Snow Black” will be pleased to know that she can automatically gain one Fire Boost Level when her Phoenix Flame Swirl assist is called, and the properties of SB Maragi have been changed to now fire three flames on release/contact (instead of both the C and D versions simultaneously like in Ultimax). The third and final game features Ruby and Weiss taking on the brotherly duo of Ragna and Jin. You can see all three matches below.

BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle will be released on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC in Japan on Thursday, May 31st, with a North American release on the same platforms Tuesday, June 5th.
