More roster details emerge from Dasvergeben about a rumored JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure fighting game from French Bread

More details continue to emerge from Dasvergeben about a rumored JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure fighting game developed by Soft Circle French Bread, that we’ve been reporting on since last week.

After hearing back from his source once again, we have an ever clearer idea of what the roster of this title may look like. Fighters mentioned previously include:

  • Jotaro Kujo
  • Young and Old Joseph Joestar
  • Johnny Joestar
  • Jolyne Cujoh
  • Yoshikage Kira
  • DIO
  • Jonathan Joestar
  • both Josuke Higashikatas from Part 4 and Part 8
  • Koichi Hirose
  • Gyro Zeppeli
  • Jobin Higashikata
  • Noriaki Kakyoin
  • Muhammad Avdol
  • Jean-Pierre Polnareff
  • Iggy
  • Giorno Giovanna

They will apparently be joined by the following new fighters to make a 36 character base roster:

  • Robert E. O. Speedwagon
  • Caesar Anthonio Zeppeli
  • Kars
  • Wamuu
  • Hol Horse
  • Okuyasu Nijimura
  • Rohan Kishibe
  • Trish Una
  • Guido Mista
  • Diavolo
  • Narciso Anasui
  • Ermes Costello
  • Funny Valentine
  • Diego Brando
  • Dio Brando
  • Father Enrico Pucci

Dasvergeben notes that though the 35th and 36th character are unaccounted for, Baron Zeppeli and Alternate World Diego were originally going to be DLC according to his source, but have possibly been moved up to the base roster to reach 36, as character production was likely moving along at a better pace than initially expected. Though this is only an assumption, as both of their current statuses are unknown. As for DLC, there will apparently be two “Character Passes” with 6 characters in each, for a total of 12 additional warriors, bringing the roster up to 48. The DLC characters they’ve heard about include:

  • Vanilla Ice
  • Pet Shop
  • Lisa Lisa
  • Esidisi
  • Rudol Von Stroheim
  • Weather Report
  • Emporio Alnino
  • Straizo
  • Akira Otoishi
  • Yukako Yamagishi
  • Pannacotta Fugo
  • Bruno Bucciarati

Lastly, Dasvergeben revealed that Yoshikage Kira will be voiced in English by Dan Southworth, while Pucci will be played by Steve Blum, as well as mentioning some more info from his source about character production — which could help to explain the title’s massive roster size:

Speaking more about the 2 season passes, they claim that for some unknown reasons the DLC will be done much faster than originally thought. The planning is done at this point for them from what they were told, and they just need to work on the characters themselves. But they’ve found some efficient method for creating the game’s roster. I don’t know if that means adapting the characters themselves to the game equals them being fairly simple, streamlined character adaptations or what exactly. I found that interesting regardless as it would help explain the roster being as big as it is.

That’s all for now, but stay tuned to Shoryuken for any further developments on this rumor — and, as always, don’t forget to take all of this with a bit of salt, as nothing here has been verified by the publisher!

Epic battles between rivals: See the replays and results for Daigo Umehara’s Kemonomichi 2

If you missed it live, make sure to check out these spectacular fights now!

Many fans in North America stayed up late on Friday night to watch Daigo Umehara’s second set of exhibition matches, Kemonomichi 2, unfold live — and it did not disappoint. Three first-to-ten sets between the best of the best took place in three different titles: Kotaka Shoten took on Ito in Super Street Fighter II Turbo; Tanukana tested herself against Yuyo in a Tekken 7: Fated Retribution Ling Xiaoyu mirror match; and — in the set that unsurprisingly got the most publicity throughout the FGC — Tokido challenged Daigo Umehara himself to a match in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition.

The event is now available to watch on Daigo the BeasTV! Check out the videos below, or head over to BeasTV on YouTube and have a look at this playlist. The first two videos are pre-show commentary (including thoughts from Fuudo); the second video covers the tough Super Turbo match between Ito’s Dee Jay and Kotaka Shoten’s Guile, and the intense down-to-the-wire Tekken battle between Tanukana and Yuyu; the last video is solely devoted to the Street Fighter V struggle between Umehara’s Guile and Tokido’s Akuma. Results are posted after the videos.

Hidden “Z-League” and “Raid Battle” islands have been found in Dragon Ball FighterZ’s lobby

For those wondering about what other forms of future content Bandai Namco may have in store for Dragon Ball Fighter Z, it seems that some hints have been found. It seems the game’s lobby holds some secrets off-camera that may point to what we can expect in the months to come.

Instead of a traditional menu, Dragon Ball FighterZ instead uses a 3D free-roaming online lobby where players can move their avatar to various islands to access the game’s modes. However, it seems that there are a few hidden islands just out of site.

Shesez recently uploaded a new episode of their Boundary Break video series, where they apply a free-roaming camera to explore Dragon Ball FighterZ. Here, they discovered that Dragon Ball FighterZ‘s lobby actually has two hidden islands.

The first of these is labelled “Z League,” and seems to hint at some sort of competitive league mode for the game. The island’s design features a golden bust of Mr. Satan (“Hercule” in the US), so it may indicate a form of tournament mode, similar to the Tenkaichi Budokai tournaments that happen in the original manga and anime.

The other one, however, is labeled “Raid Battle”. This is arguably more interesting, as it may hint at some sort of cooperative mode — at least if we apply how the word “raid” is used in other games — where players band together to achieve some goal. The island’s layout of a crater with a Saiyan pod in the middle seems to indicate that it involves some form of invasion. Perhaps teams of players will have to defend against a raid composed of other teams?

Of course, this is all speculation for now. In the meantime, you can check out Shesez’s video below for these, as well as other fun things that can be seen by moving the camera around freely.

Scallywag93 teaches how to punish from the Forced Crouch state of Tekken 7

Crouching states work differently in the 3D genre than what 2D players are likely used to. When crouching, you not only get access to new moves, but you also get a completely different set of moves while you’re rising from the crouching to standing state. On top of that, there’s various ways to cancel the crouching state, and those methods tend to differ a little bit between different 3D fighters.

Because of this, there are lots of punishment opportunities that slip right by new 3D players. There are many different types of moves that force you into a crouching state on block or hit, which limits what you can do afterwards. That does not mean these moves are safe, though — and if you know your character’s options from crouch, you can make better decisions as you encounter new forced crouch situations.

Upcoming Tekken 7 x Final Fantasy XV promotional event will shed more light on Noctis DLC

Though fans had quite the hype reaction to the reveal of Noctis for Tekken 7, we haven’t heard anything about the Final Fantasy XV protagonist in a while. Until now, we have only seen the Noctis reveal trailer and a loose release window of Spring 2018 — an upcoming event will finally give us some more information about the character.

Gematsu reports that Square Enix is hosting a FFXV promotional event this week in Japan. Though the event, titled “Alternative Time Report,” will showcase the RPG game, it will also feature Tekken 7 producer Katsuhiro Harada. Harada will share news regarding the Noctis DLC for Tekken, so it could be a release date and/or more game-play footage.

The “Alternative Time Report” stream will air on YouTube on March 14th, at 8:00 PM JST (6:00 AM CT/4:00 AM PT).

Stay tuned to Shoryuken for more information about Noctis DLC as it is revealed.

exceL’s XLBrian demonstrates optimized intro combos for Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition’s Menat

exceL Esports’s Brian “xLBrian” Thomson is on the shortlist of sponsored Menat pros for Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition. The resource-reliant, highly polarized offensive move-set of Menat might makes her too much of a difficult and risky choice for most tournament players.

But if you stick with her, the high damage rewards of her combos speak for themselves. If you found xLBrian’s combo tutorial useful, you might also be interested exceL’s larger guide to controlling and winning with Menat.

Masahiro Sakurai is returning to work on the upcoming Super Smash Bros. game for Nintendo Switch

Aside from the fact that it exists, there really isn’t much that we know about the upcoming Super Smash Bros. game on Switch. That said, we do know of at least one person returning to the project — series creator Masahiro Sakurai.

In a recent tweet, Sakurai confirmed that not only is he working on Super Smash Bros., but that they’ve been quietly working on it for some time now.

The creator of a series returning to work on the latest installment isn’t, in itself, a surprise. However, Sakurai famously opened up in interviews on how taxing development of the last game was to his health. In the past he’s stated that the previous game (Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS ) could be his last, especially after he admitted to Famitsu that he suffered from physical pain during its development.

He’s also had an interesting relationship with the game’s competitive scene, especially with how his views on competitive Smash play have evolved.

That said, while Sakurai is back at work on a new Super Smash Bros. game, he made no indication of what capacity he’s involved with in the title — but we’re bound to learn more in the near future.

Maximize your excellent damage off balcony breaks for Tekken 7’s Lee Chaolan

With any character in Tekken 7, it can be difficult to maximize combo damage off of a balcony break. There’s a lot of factors to take in: whether you’ve used your screw attack already, how far away from the wall you were when you hit, etc.

And if you choose to play as Tekken’s flashy Lee Chaolan, all of this is compounded by the difficult execution the character naturally possess. Lee specialist TZMurakumo‘s latest guide tries to simplify the decision-making process — so that regardless of where you are in the combo, your damage will always be excellent.

Body Count Fighting and WWE’s Austin Creed throw down in Tekken 7

Recently, WWE’s Austin Creed was at the Body Count Fighting studios to play Dragon Ball FighterZ. Though there for purely entertainment purposes (which is something he’s very, very good at), he likely also wanted to win. Sadly, the heroic Austin Creed jobbed to BCF’s Shayan during virtually the entire episode.

In true FGC fashion, if you get bopped in one game (and no amount of rematches will save your losing streak), then just challenge them in another! It’s a new day for Austin Creed — see if he’s able to get revenge for his losses in the 2D genre in BCF’s latest episode above.
