Bandai Namco announces Tekken World Tour 2018; Finals to be in Amsterdam, NLD

Qudans’ capture of the Tekken World Tour 2017 championship was one of last year’s most celebrated and visceral FGC moments. With a success story like that, it’s no surprise Bandai Namco would want to capture that magic again:

The Tekken World Tour 2018 officially starts March 16th at Final Round in Atlanta, GA, and continues until October 26th at Canada Cup. The series will conclude in Amsterdam, NLD, but competitors will find that the road to the Finals is a little different this year: both point and tournament formats have changed.

The 2018 World Tour will feature one global leaderboard, instead of leaderboards for different regions. Players from any region can earn points at every single Tour event, and the events will only be divided into one of two points categories: Master and Challenger.

You can read more about the new rules and tournament stops here.

BadIntent shows off the practicality of doing nothing in Pokkén Tournament DX

There’s an art to “doing nothing” in Pokkén Tournament DX. This isn’t some Zen meditation we’re talking about, either — when you don’t press anything on your controller (this includes block and directions) you will cause some mechanics in the game to behave differently.

Two of the biggest mechanics altered by this (lack of) input are wake-up timings and block stun. As demonstrated by BadIntent in his latest tutorial video, this has a wide variety of applications for both offensive and defensive situations.

Motohiro Okubo gives us a closer look at the lore of SoulCalibur VI’s Nightmare

Bandai Namco posted a showcase of the latest confirmed fighter in SoulCalibur VI, Nightmare. The behind the scenes video briefly talks about the flagship bad guy of the series, explaining a developer perspective on creating the grand return of the Soul Edge wielder.

Narrating the video is producer Motohiro Okubo, who states that SCVI is a game with light and dark elements — with Nightmare obviously representing the dark side. Many fans also speculate whether Siegfried will show as his own character (despite his human form being visible if certain parts of Nightmare are broken). Furthermore, Okubo mentions how much polish and production value is going into the character, so from his point of view, the game is ending up “absurdly cool.”

If you’re hungry for more SoulCalibur VI, check out additional SCVI gameplay footage and Kayane’s interview with Okubo.

Street Fighter’s first lady of fighting games, Chun-Li, celebrated her 50th birthday on March 1st

It was quite a momentous birthday for one of the most famous female fighting game characters in the world, Chun-Li. Originally appearing in Street Fighter II: The World Warrior, March 1st marked the Chinese Interpol officer’s 50th birthday.

The official Street Fighter Twitter account and several others have posted celebratory art and cosplay:

Also, last year, XusesGB made a “History and Evolution of Chun-Li” video that showcased her different looks and attacks across the library of games she starred in:

And finally, from the Shoryuken staff, we wish the warrior with the strongest thighs in the world a happy 50th birthday and many, many more opponents to kick down in the future.

Dragon Ball FighterZ character roundup: What we’ve seen so far for Krillin

Our own Tournament of Power still has a lot of time left! Keep practicing!

We’ve seen a lot of tech videos for Dragon Ball FighterZ come through our tipline, covering everything from team-building strategy, fundamental game mechanics, and combo after combo after combo, from throughout the game’s cast! Since the roundups were put together based on what came in when, not sorted by character, we’re re-compiling them by fighter to make it easier to find something for your individual team members.

This time, let’s look at what we’ve seen so far for Krillin!

TDG Oso demonstrates the appropriately-named “Senzu bug.”

@NYoption keeps pumping out higher and higher damage and meter build with Krillin every time he sends something in.

Here’s a side-switch combo for setting up corner positioning, and a new high-damage combo for sparking.

As always, thanks to all content creators out there, and everyone that sent in tip! Keep an eye on Shoryuken for future DBFZ roundups!

Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition is on sale as part of Capcom’s Publisher Sale on Nintendo’s eShop

Back in the early 2010s, when Capcom was trying to get Street Fighter IV out on as many systems as possible, one of the most interesting versions was the Nintendo 3DS port, Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition, which showcased a number of unique features for Nintendo’s innovative handheld.

Now, for any 3DS owners looking to own this interesting port of the game, here’s a great chance to pick it up. Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition is currently on sale as part of Capcom’s Publisher Sale on the Nintendo eShop in North America. Anyone looking to pick the game up can do so for only $7.99, 60% off its regular price of $19.99.

Released back in early 2011, Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition debuted to mostly favorable reviews from various outlets. To take advantage of the 3DS’s 3D capabilities, the game has a “Dynamic Mode” that displays the action over the characters shoulder (as opposed to the traditional side view). In addition to this, the game also has touch controls for pulling off special moves. This latter option — while great for casual players — does tend to skew the game’s balance in favor of certain charge characters, who can now pull off moves without charging.

Interested players can pick up Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition here. In addition to this, a number of other Capcom titles for 3DS, as well as Wii and Switch, are also on sale on the eShop.

Dragon Ball FighterZ character roundup: What we’ve seen so far for Kid Buu and Majin Buu

Leffen reviews the February patch notes for Dragon Ball FighterZ

With Dragon Ball FighterZ recently emerging from the Hyperbolic Time Chamber after unlocking the recent February update, TeamSoloMid’s Leffen has provided players with a full breakdown of what the new patch means for the game going forward.

Though mostly addressing improvements to the online experience, on top of a myriad of bug fixes and the addition of online Party Matches (located at the previously-empty Kame House in the game’s Lobby interface), there were a few notable changes, such as the removal of Captain Ginyu’s glitched Charged Powerful Energy Wave, which allowed him to get free Ultimate Z Changes to his partners by spending Ki Gauges he didn’t actually have, since he just spent them on Charging his own Super.

Certain Ki effects, such as Piccolo’s Hellzone Grenade, have been reduced in size (removing some of the Super Namekian’s invisible mix-ups), along with a fix to the bug that switched the opponent’s controls after a Dragon Rush snapback, allowing characters like Goku Black, Kid Buu, Gotenks, Android 18, and Android 16 to get simple and guaranteed cross-ups.

I’ve personally always found it exceptionally helpful to have a visual aid like this whenever a new fighting game patch comes out, as it’s always good to be able to see the impact of any new alterations first-hand before jumping into a match. You can catch the full video below.

Dragon Ball FighterZ character roundup: What we’ve seen so far for Gohan (Teen) and Gotenks

This time, let’s look at what we’ve seen so far for Gotenks, and Gohan (Teen)!

We have one here exploring Teen Gohan’s potential maximum damage:

BlaQNYC Vids shows off the 4-way mix-up potential of Kid Gohan’s auto-combo.

David Bermudez gives the Teen version of Gohan some attention (with Cell and Goku Black assists):

Y. Xiao shows us an assortment of Teen Gohan combos, varying in practicality and flashiness.

Sword has a touch-of-death combo for the young Saiyan. It costs Sparking, but with only one assist and tremendous meter-building possibilities, it’s fairly inexpensive.

GFAnBi shares a tricky Cell-Gotenks restand with us.
