CouchWarriors Crossup results

While Capcom Cup 2018 and NEC 19 raged on in the United States, some great battles were also brewing in Coburg North, Victoria, Australia, as the seventh Saga Event of the Dragon Ball FighterZ World Tour took place at CouchWarriors Crossup. Tournaments were also held in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Tekken 7, BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle, BlazBlue: Central Fiction, Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2, Under Night In-Birth EXE: Late[st], SoulCalibur VI, Rivals of Aether, Million Arthur: Arcana Blood, Project M, Super Smash Bros. 64, and Super Smash Bros. Melee. The conclusion of this event would determine the fate of the seventh and final Dragon Ball, as well as whether we’ll be going into next month’s World Tour Finals at Red Bull Final Summoning with four or five Dragon Ball holders in the final eight-player bracket.

And with that, all seven Dragon Balls have now been collected, as Kazunoko further solidifies his place as the top seed in the Finals with his fourth Dragon Ball, following his third consecutive victory at a Saga Event, with DNG|Tachikawa and others now forced to survive a brutal single-elimination Last Chance Qualifier tournament. Our four Dragon Ball holders and currently qualified players are now set:

Though the offline portion of the Season has wrapped up, the DBFZ World Tour resumes in January 2019, with the final two Online Dragon Radar Events for East Asia, (eligible countries include Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, and South Korea) taking place January 6th-8th, with registration live at smash.gg; the final event for Europe East, (eligible countries include Latvia, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Finland, Romania, Lithuania, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, Russia, Estonia, the Ukraine, and Greece), will be on January 13th-16th, and can also be registered for on smash.gg — giving two more Mighty Warriors a chance to compete in the LCQ at Red Bull Final Summoning on January 26th, in Los Angeles, California.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate glitch allows Isabelle to fill the screen with assist trophies

Every new video game comes with a bug or two, but there are some that end up being more hilarious than others. Such is the case with a bug discovered in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

The bug in question involves Isabelle and her fishing rod. If two Isabelles try to catch an assist trophy at the same time, the one who snags it will end up locked in an infinite loop that summons a random character.

The glitch, which was demonstrated by TheAfroJow in the video below, looks pretty bonkers in action. The Isabelle who “wins” keeps spawning assists trophies (that’ll most likely end up winning the match for them). It would be totally overpowered — if not for the fact that items, like assists trophies, aren’t used in competitive play.

JUMP FORCE adds Trunks, Boa Hancock, and Renji Abarai

The latest issue of V-Jump has revealed three more characters for Bandai Namco’s Shonen Jump arena fighter Jump Force. Coming to the game are Trunks form Dragon Ball Z, Boa Hancock from One Piece, and Renju Abarai from Bleach.

Of these three, Trunks probably needs the least introduction with the popularity of the franchise — and the fact that he’s also in Dragon Ball FighterZ. In fact, him being added was likely a given at this point.

The “Pirate Empress” Boa Hancock is the Captain of the Kuja Pirates and one of the “Shibibukai”, 7 pirate warlords who serve as privateers for the world government. She’s also secretly an ally of Luffy and the Straw Hats, having a bit of a crush on him.

Renji Abarai a Soul and the lieutenant of the 6th division under Byakuya Kuchiki. He started of as something of an antagonist, trying to take down series lead Ichigo to be able to arrest Rukia, before eventually becoming an ally later on.

Jump Force is due out for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on February 14, 2019 in Japan; and PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on February 15, 2019 in the West.

ARIKA drops details and screenshots from Fighting EX Layer’s upcoming DLC characters

As originally hinted at back in Evo 2018, ARIKA’s Fighting EX Layer has three more DLC characters on the way. Now, the company has released some details on when these characters will arrive in game. ARIKA recently tweeted out their schedule for the game up to May of 2019. Here they gave out hints on both when we may see the first of these characters drop in game, as well as their pricing.

Of the three incoming characters, only one will be sold as paid DLC, the other two will be coming to the game free of charge. While no names were mentioned, it’s likely that it’ll be guest character Terry Bogard who will be paid DLC. As for when the characters will drop, ARIKA confirmed that they plan to release one of the free characters by March, to coincide with next year’s Toushinshai. The remaining two will then arrive in May. Which of the two free characters would drop first, however, was not revealed.

Prior to all this, an update is planned for January that will adjust the gameplay, and add some fixes to the arcade version. In addition to these details, ARIKA also released the following screenshots of the upcoming characters.

Blow opponents away with these combos for The King of Fighters XIV’s Joe Higashi

YouTuber Persona Entertainment has been on a mission to produce long, complicated, and flashy juggles for the entire cash of The King of Fighters XIV. Today, they try their hand at “Hurricane Upper” Joe Higashi.

If you like technical execution, there’s no shortage of difficult options to challenge yourself with when using the Muay Thai champ. In particular, his TNT punches can prove to be difficult to time and execute properly, but as seen in the video above, you can produce high damage combos and loops — including multiple 100% and stun combos.

Ryu/Kage’s voice actor, Kyle Hebert, talks about the path from DJing to Video Game voice acting on Mekel Kasanova Podcast

There’s a good chance if you’ve played a video game or watched an anime — that should be all of you, theoretically — you’ve likely run into the voice acting work of Kyle Hebert. He’s the voice of Ryu for the past ten years, since Street Fighter IV — and that means, of course, he also got work as the recently released Kage in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition. You might know him best from where he got his start in the industry, though: as Teen Gohan in Dragon Ball Z.

For those interested in the acting side of games creation, this is a great interview to listen to. Kyle shares his personal path into the industry, which sees him as one of the most prominent talents in the field — despite not starting

Super Street Fighter II Turbo Dhalsim titan “Mu” takes on all the players at GameSpot Versus

Japanese Super Street Fighter II Turbo players are known for their marathon sets, and a “Kumite”– where you play multiple players in first to threes in one straight shot — is exactly that. At Japan’s GameSpot Versus, they are often willing to accommodate amazing play and sets for anyone willing to run the gauntlet.

Mu — one of Japan’s best Dhalsim players — sat down to play a kumite against everyone in the venue. Showing off some amazing play on both sides of the cabinet, it’s a beautiful marathon to behold.

Street Fighter V Kage Day One Roundup — Tiger Knee Tatsu Crossup, VT1 cancels, Kazunoko’s Kage,and more!

Ryu has given in to the Satsui no Hadou, giving him the ability to anime air-dash and wear LED horns. It also gave him a name change — He’s Kage, now — and a new character slot in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition! Capcom made the new “Eviler Ryu” available for download during Capcom Cup and players have, unsurprisingly already started dissecting the “returning” Shadow Shoto. Let’s see what the community has cooked up!

First, we have some basic bread n’ butter combos for meterless, V-Trigger 1, and V-Trigger 2 setups. Looks like Kage dragged Street Fighter IV’s FADC mechanic along with him!

Kage has a nice little crossup versus standing opponents with Air Tatsu.

And it becomes a nightmare mixup tool when used meaty.

Oh, and speaking of meaties, Kage has the tools to ruin opponents that like to use quick rise.

And closing us out today, let’s look into what the pros are doing on day one: Poongko and Kazunoko are both already rocking scary looking Kages!

FGC documentary “A Fighting Chance” shows community grassroots in action

From the Battle of the Bay to Evolution Championships 2018, the fighting game community has grown immensely over the years with the rise of esports. Though big organizations continue to invest in platforms and players, we can’t forget about the building blocks of the scene.

A new documentary from MR. Z takes a closer look at fighting games. Rather than focusing on the big and the glamorous, the video shows a different aspect of Mike “ElvenShadow” Boczar, the co-organizer of Frosty Faustings. ElvenShadow is seen at his home, during “Garage Gear” a monthly event he started to host from his very own garage. With setups supplied by its attendees, it’s a great example of the spirit of the FGC; the event welcomes multiple games as ElvenShadow tries to fit as many guests in his garage (and outside!) as possible. The video also shows Michigan’s Lennel “L-Train” Dinkins at Youmacon, an anime convention which is also a big event for fighting game enthusiasts.
