theScore esports compares the trash talk of the FGC with League of Legends pros

As the fighting game community steps further and further into the realm of esports, there’s a real fear that its grittier arcade-raised ways will get scrubbed away.  Trash talk is at the very center of the FGC’s soul– it brings hype (and player interest), but also potentially drives away the very suits that want in on the FGC’s growing numbers.

Many on SRK’s forums and comment sections have voiced the opinion that the FGC is too “esports” these days. This is meant to imply that we’ve become too safe, too weak-willed, and too advertiser friendly. Whether this is right or wrong is beside the point, though:

Because even if it’s true, we still have other communities checking out the FGC specifically for the larger then life personalities of our scene.  theScore esports recently asked if our trash talk matched up with selected trash talk of certain League of Legends pros. While many might think the selection of clips representing the FGC is far from the best it has to offer, it doesn’t really seem to matter in this ‘contest’: the muted, passionless insults in the LOL clips are far from being in the same league of even the most out-of-context clips of Pokchop.

Of course, maybe that’s why this video is scary. The LOL clips are what we fear our trash talk might turn into if we keep our current trajectory.

“Upgrade Your Arsenal” returns with more corner setups for Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition’s Ken

It wasn’t that long ago that World Warrior FGC gave us a nice, meaty dish of corner cross ups for Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition’s Ken. Lest you thought that was all there was to the fiery shoto, World Warrior is already back with some more setups:

Just like before, the catalyst for these cross up setups is a crush counter in the corner. With a little manipulation and a lot of creativity, you can wildly pressure and mix-up your opponent off of here, scoring big damage in the process.

The Beefy Smash Doods talks about the impossibility of playing perfectly in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

While everyone strives for ‘perfect play’ in any fighting game, is such a thing really possible when human reactions are factored in?

This is the subject of Beefy Smash Doods’ latest video. Taking the theory of playing ‘safe’ and ‘perfectly’ to its most clinical conclusion, the Doods work backwards and figure out why ‘perfect’ play is an ideal, not a reality. While the examples provided pull largely from Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, the overall concept can be applied to any fighting game.

TGN re-imagines Overwatch as a fighting game in this “what-if” video

Upon its release, players from every genre, even the fighting game community, became hooked on Overwatch. Its fast paced first person shooter meets MOBA mechanics made it an exciting and fun title for everyone. But what if it were something closer to home for us?

TGN decided to see for themselves and made this interesting –and humorous– imagining of Overwatch designed as a 2D fighting game. While it obviously looks a little janky as it is filmed in-game, this re-imagining certainly gets your mind going on how an Overwatch fighter would work. The addition of Reinhardt doing a taunt before performing his Ultimate is a nice touch, as well as the fight actually moving between areas in Volskaya Industries.

While Riot looks to be prepping a fighting game for the future, it remains to be seen if Blizzard will have any of its franchises duking it out in 2D.

SoulCalibur VI producer Motohiro Okubo breaks down Mitsurugi

Mitsurugi is one of the most iconic characters of the SoulCalibur franchise. Appearing in every single installment of the series, he’s the closest that the series has to a counterpart to Street Fighter‘s Ryu.

In their latest video for SoulCalibur VI, Bandai Namco shines a spotlight on Mitsurugi. Specifically, producer Motohiro Okubo talks about the character, and shares his thoughts on his design, and how he represents the series.

SoulCalibur VI is set to launch in 2018 for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Perfected Ultra Instinct Goku surpasses the gods in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2

The ultimate fighter goes from Super to Ultra!

Announced in V-Jump magazine, Goku in his perfected version of Ultra Instinct will be the last DLC character in Extra Pack 2 for Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2. The scan was made by ShonenGamez, and shows off Perfected Ultra Instinct Goku’s attacks and abilities. This new form for the character was also showcased in V-Jump and was scanned by YonkouProductions.

The new form is going to be used against Jiren in the conclusion of the Tournament of Power in Dragon Ball Super. The inclusion of the perfected form is more than a bit of a surprise. It appears the new character will be added at almost the same time he is unveiled in Dragon Ball Super — which looks to be in early March. Usually players have to wait a few months for new characters introduced in the series to become playable.

Perfected Ultra Instinct Goku Xenoverse 2

In addition to screens of the new character, we get a sneak peak at what to expect from the new story missions that will come included with Extra Pack 2. Time Patrollers are joined by their mentors as they fight against the mysterious Fu. There still isn’t a concrete release date set yet, but additional details about the character’s abilities, the new story elements, and other surprises are sure to follow this announcement.

Rising Up: Season 3 — New V-Triggers and important changes for Alex, Guile, Ibuki, Balrog, Juri, & Urien

Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition is officially one month old, and I’m starting to see a lot of new balance changes shaking up the previous character usage. With all these new match-ups, it’s important to learn the full extent of your own character’s changes. In light of this, I’m doing a series of videos on ShoryukenTube showing off the most important gameplay adjustments for each character. I’m making one video a day in this series, until I’ve covered all characters.

I’m covering the characters in the order they appear on Capcom’s official patch notes. The order seems to be SFV’s twelve returning characters, the four new characters, the first season of DLC, and then the second season of DLC, in order of release. This week I’ve covered the first season of DLC characters: Alex, Guile, Ibuki, Balrog, Juri, and Urien.

Continuing with last time, I’m also doing a video covering each character’s new V-trigger II. These new V-triggers significantly affect gameplay, and they have a lot of intricacies that are not well-defined in the game’s demonstration mode. So, I look at each character’s new V-Trigger in detail here, and explain its uses.

That’s 24 characters down, and I’m moving on to the last wave of DLC! Check out my previous videos here:

Rising Up: Season 3 — New V-Triggers and important changes for Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Cammy, & Nash

Rising Up: Season 3 — New V-Triggers and important changes for M. Bison, Vega, Dhalsim, Zangief, & Karin

Rising Up: Season 3 — New V-Triggers and important changes for R. Mika, Birdie, Necalli, Rashid, Laura, & F.A.N.G

I’ll continue with both series every day until I’ve covered all characters, which should take about a week now. Keep an eye on the ShoryukenTube YouTube channel, so you don’t miss out!

Dragon Ball FighterZ’s first DLC characters revealed to be Bardock and Broly

The legendary Super Saiyans add their power and more in the most recent DLC announcement!

After various rumors, leaks, and datamining, the first DLC characters for Dragon Ball FighterZ have finally been announced! Both legendary Saiyans in their own right: Bardock, the father of Goku who traveled through time, and Broly, the seemingly unstoppable juggernaut with a grudge, will both be coming to Dragon Ball FighterZ very soon. While this still isn’t a complete confirmation of the previously discussed DLC roster, it is a step in that direction.

Broly, Bardock, and More! Resized

There is also news about the long since announced FighterZ/Xenoverse crossover DLC. Owners of both Dragon Ball FighterZ and Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 will receive an Android 21 outfit for Xenoverse and a Supreme Kai of Time lobby avatar and stamp for FighterZ. The addition of this collaborative content shows Bandai Namco’s faith that both titles can coexist in Dragon Ball harmony.

The V-Jump scan was posted and is being actively translated by ShonenGames. More details will be released soon so stay tuned to SRK for the next episode of Dragon Ball FighterZ!
