There seems no sign of the hype slowing down for Dragon Ball FighterZ, especially after the Evo announcement. There’s a real sense of an actual arms race going on in the DBFZ meta. I hope whoever is in charge of the Evo trophy design makes it a perfectly spherical Dragon Ball, just for the theme’s sake. Or… maybe not. That’d ultimately limit the novelty prize to seven tournaments, wouldn’t it? There’s absolutely going to be more then seven majors for this game. Anyways: let’s see what the community sent in today!

If you think of great names in Marvel vs. Capcom 2 history, three people that would immediately come to mind are Justin Wong, Sanford “Santhrax” Kelly and IFC Yipes. From 2000 to 2010, the East Coast trio won a combination of nine Evo titles in the game, and are still considered some of the best to every play the title.

Thanks to a donation incentive being met for Versus 2018, we were able to see these three titans square off against each other in a first-to-seven exhibition. While Yipes would play Storm, Sentinel, and Captain Commando against Sanford’s patented Cable, Sentinel, and Captain Commando, he would see a switch back to his famous Magneto, Storm, and Psylocke against Justin’s Team Matrix (Storm, Sentinel, Cyclops). All told, this is an epic exhibition you don’t want to miss.

Only one Asuka player qualified for the Tekken World Tour bracket in 2017, and that’s Fergus2k8. This sponsored Tekken 7 pro was the lone representative of Ireland, and he scored a dominating win over America’s P. Ling during pools. If you’re an Asuka player looking to up your game, you could do worse then listening to Fergus’s advice!

Luckily, you don’t have to settle for worse. Fergus recently put out his thoughts on how Asuka’s offense works in Tekken 7. This isn’t just a movelist breakdown, but a discussion about how to think when playing Asuka, which should prove valuable for anyone looking to take her as far as Fergus did.

Evo Japan was a huge success, and Core-A Gaming (being based out of Korea) was able to make the trip, and Gerald Lee recorded his own impression of the event.

Speaking to people such as James Chen, Alex Myers, and Kayane, he describes the crowds, the hype of unknown players showing themselves to be killers, and the excitement to play new and anticipated titles. He also spoke of the significance of the event, with Knee and Infiltration both talking of the importance of winning the event, with Infiltration saying he would rather earn the prestige of winning Evo over the money attached to winning Capcom Cup.

When Aegislash was released onto the world of Pokkén Tournament DX, one of the first Pokkén players out of the gate with sick, sword slinging combos was Mewtater.

It’s probably not a surprise that he’s also bringing us some early, disgusting tech for the Sword-mon, either. It seemed pretty clear from the onset that Aegislash was going to be an okizeme-heavy, setplay-style monster — and stuff like the shield break setup above only further confirms that.

While the setup is character size-dependent, it is worth noting that it still puts characters too small to get guard-broken very close to such a state, with a move that leaves Aegislash at frame advantage. Very nice!
