Forsburn and Ranno shine in this Rivals of Aether combo video

With the platform fighter undergoing a mini-renaissance, Rivals of Aether has been leading the charge in both mechanical innovation and player numbers. With any game that gains some sort of popularity, combo videos are bound to follow.

In this video we see some amazing Forsburn and Ranno combos — practical ones, as evidenced by their usage in actual matches. You see an amazing display of spikes, creating early losses as stocks, as well as one sequence that results in a quick two-stock loss.

With T2’s CakeAssault really push the envelope for Forsburn with his victory at Genesis 5 last weekend, expect many more Forsburn players roaming around in Ranked play.

Dragon Ball FighterZ roundup: Quick Zeni, Android 16 Kill Mixup, Goku Blue breakdown, and more!

Another day, another chance to see how far Dragon Ball FighterZ’s engine can be pushed by the community. If the number of players in a community means a game’s tech will be that much better, then it seems DBFZ’s tech will go particularly far: After its debut on steam, DBFZ has become the most played fighting game of all time.

So let’s see what all these players have put together!:

UM Tyrant opens up today’s post with a beginner’s guide to learning Dragon Ball FighterZ — appopriate, as DBFZ is certainly introducing new players to the world of the FGC.

Looking to grab as much Zeni as possible without losing precious practice time? BornFree wants you to know that those ‘Quest’ pop ups are really not time consuming at all, and net you a smooth 25,000 Zeni.

Moving into individual character tech, let’s check out Hit. Hit lacks a traditional low 2A, which you would think would be a crippling liability in a Versus-Style game. He can still force mid/lows easily, as you can see in this demonstration from @Cato__.

And Hit’s damage output seems respectable enough, as shown off by @TeaMandem.

Brandon Pollard shows off the strength of anchor Vegeta with these Sparking Blast combos.

Two meters, two assists, and one mixup is all you need to kill with this Android 16 setup from @Antinomy001.

If you have Android 21 unlocked, then it’s time to start learning your steal setups! Silvius Sama has multiple setups that net two stolen moves in a single combo:

mahouko08 has a 4 bar, 2 assist combo that nets 7.3k in damage with Our Lord Yamcha.

Not to be outdone, shows off his own 3-meter 7k combo with the God of Destruction, Beerus.

Last, but not least: if you were looking for a rowdy character to blow people up with in the early days of DBFZ, you should see TGN Anime‘s guide to Goku Blue.

As always, if you see anything worth sharing, let us know by submitting a tip for our next roundup.

Dragon Ball FighterZ sets record for the most concurrent players for a PC fighting game

“Vegeta! What do the Steam stats say about its power level?”

“It’s over 40,000!”

Dragon Ball FighterZ came out of the gate swinging on its first weekend, setting a record that likely won’t be beaten anytime soon.

According to steamcharts.com, DBFZ hit a peak of 44,234 concurrent players on the platform, the highest of any fighting game on Steam ever. The previous owner of that title was Tekken 7, at a peak of 18,766 players in comparison. The combination of Arc System Works polish and ’90s nostalgia is clearly a money maker, and it’s hard to imagine what fighting game could come along to dethrone DBFZ’s new record.

Should DBFZ be able to keep even half of those players going forward, it has the potential to really expand the playerbase of the entire FGC.

Kalon CPU exposes Pokkén Tournament DX’s overly forgiving Combo Dojo mode

The “Combo Dojo” challenge mode in Pokkén Tournament DX isn’t too much of an actual challenge, as it current exists. Most of the combos are relatively simple and mostly serve to give examples of combo paths for new players.

But there’s another side to the Combo Dojo that’s not so obvious.

You see, the “Combo Dojo” isn’t so good at detecting what combo you’re actually doing, it only cares that the moves in its example combo are eventually executed. Between this and the complete lack of Pokkén’s signature Phase Shift points in this mode, it’s possible to preform some funny looking, and technically impossible, combos. As demonstrated by Kalon CPU57, check out the above paths, loops and infinites that the game would never, ever allow you to do.

The King of Fighters ’97 Global Match is coming to PS4, PS Vita and PC this spring

As well as the reveal of Oswald and King of Fighters XIV‘s second trio of DLC characters, SNK has also announced that a brand new port of King of Fighters ’97 is coming later this year. Titled The King of Fighters ’97 Global Match, this port’s main feature is online play, allowing fighters from all over the world to fight for the crown.

Much like the recent Garou: Mark of the Wolves and Samurai Shodown V Special rereleases, KOF ’97 Global Match will not receive any visual or gameplay overhauls — it just adds online play for those looking to play this SNK classic against others. Having said that, it will no doubt get a special Gallery mode and trophy support, similar to the aforementioned ports.

Given the vague release date of “spring 2018”, expect more news on The King of Fighters ’97 Global Match in the coming months. With SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy also on the horizon, it’s a good time to be an SNK fan.

Sakura and Ryu skins are coming to Monster Hunter: World

It was recently announced that Monster Hunter crossover costumes would be coming to Street Fighter V and now it looks like a little piece of Street Fighter V will be coming to Monster Hunter, as special Sakura and Ryu armor sets have been announced for Monster Hunter: World. In addition to the likeness of the two world warriors, these armors come complete with Shoryukens, Hadoukens and that signature Ansatsuken fighting stance.

Now you can trade fireballs and mixups with scaly, winged beasts of all varieties. Ryu will reportedly be arriving sometime in February this year, but no news on a date for Sakura yet. Like the Horizon Zero Dawn crossover armor, you will have to complete a special Event Quest to unlock these Street Fighter skins. Hunters on both Xbox One and PS4 will get access to the Ryu and Sakura armor, but if you have save data for Street Fighter V on your console, you’ll get early access to the Ryu Event Quest.

Will Zasalamel be reborn in SoulCalibur VI? Catch up on his past with History Behind the Warrior

The announcement of a new game in a fighting game franchise always revives hopes of certain characters making a comeback. Whatever the game may be, there are always one or two fan favorites that were, for whatever reason, left out of a particular iteration of a series.

One such character is Zasalmel, the scythe-wielding, death-seeking immortal warrior from the SoulCalibur series. As rumors begin to swirl of his return to the franchise in SoulCalibur VI, History Behind the Warrior has created a video breaking down who he is and what role he has played in the SoulCalibur storyline.

In many ways Zasalamel’s history is intertwined with that of the entire SoulCalibur series, since it was he who unified the Soul Calibur and Soul Edge swords and became the demonic final boss Abyss in SoulCalibur III. There’s more to his involvement in the game’s events than just that, so whether you’re looking to learn more about Zasalamel or just SoulCalibur itself, check out History Behind the Warrior’s video below.

Tekken pro Tanukana signed to Red Bull as an athlete

It’s rare for signings to be announced in the midst of a large tournament, but this is what has recently happened. While Evo Japan is in full swing, Red Bull announced another signing to their athlete program.

Japanese Tekken star Tanukana has just been signed onto Red Bull’s ever-growing roster. She now joins recent signing Big Bird of Street Fighter V fame, alongside established players on the roster such as Bonchan, Luffy, Daigo Umehara and Snake Eyez. Her signing makes her the first Japanese woman to join the Red Bull athlete program specifically for esports, as well as the first Tekken player on the roster.
