Learn to duck and punish these common (and powerful) Tekken 7 strings, courtesy of Scallywag 93

As a new player in Tekken 7, here’s a fact you have to deal with: everyone you play online and in person will throw out something gimmicky at you at least once. Even in the highest level of play, we’ve already seen moves that “aren’t real” win tournaments, such as Saint’s famous tournament-winning DF+1+3 at the 2016 Tekken World Tour.

These players aren’t disrespecting you (…well, maybe some of them are), they are testing you. When the 39 characters currently in Tekken 7 have 100+ moves a piece, it just makes sense to see what your opponent is and isn’t ready for. That’s the focus of many of the moves in Scallywag 93‘s latest video: if you’ve played even a little bit of Tekken 7, you’ve encountered most, if not all, of the moves in this video already. Every single one of them could have been a free launcher for you. If you’ve been passing up free damage on any of these, don’t get mad: get empowered! It’s time to hit the record feature and get to work training your duck reactions.

Dragon Ball FighterZ roundup: Final Showdown’s combo guides, Ginyu Body Swap, Nappa breakdown, and more!

It’s here. Today is the first day of Dragon Ball FighterZ, one of the (if not the) most-anticipated fighting games of 2018. As you head into practice mode today (hopefully with all of the characters unlocked) to push your combos and setups, here’s some video references to start charging your Spirit Bomb with:

Few have pushed the combos and setups of pre-launch DBFZ the way Clayton “Final Showdown” Chapman has. If you really want to see the full extent of combo possibilities at the moment, these are a great place to start:

rooflemonger put a lot of time into Nappa during the beta, and has some information on how his toolset works; then, he demonstrates the “Kamehameha x 5” combo:

Lythero shows off big damage with his Android 16/Vegeta/Frieza team. Pretty incredible that 16 can break 5K without spending super meter!

RnK Squad have pushed out an absurd amount of combo tech for a wide variety of the cast already, even including a guaranteed combo into Ginyu’s Body Swap.

Genesis 5 results

This past weekend, one of the biggest Smash events of the calendar year made its return to Oakland, California with Genesis 5. With 1,365 entrants for Super Smash Bros. Melee, 674 entrants for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, as well as 154 competitors for Rivals of Aether, 164 for the original Super Smash Bros. and even 71 world warriors for Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, it was the definition of a stacked event.

Start your Dragon Ball FighterZ saga off right with this beginner’s guide from Couch Warriors

Level up even faster with some help from the Couch Warriors!

Dragon Ball FighterZ has finally arrived — not a closed beta, not an open beta, not an open beta extension… the full game is actually here at last! And if you’re like the rest of us and jumping in to throw Kamehamehas at everyone you can, you might want a bit of guidance — especially if you’re completely new to the game, or even to fighting games in general.

For that, this guide from Couch Warriors has you well-covered. It starts with the basic controls and mechanics, and then breaks down more advanced aspects — how to read numpad notation (already second nature to some, alien to others), how to best utilize (and beat) Super Dash and Vanish, how to Instant Air Dash (9>6!), how use more effective manual combos, rather than relying on auto-combos, and more.

Kayane provides early footage of French tournament players trying out SoulCalibur VI at Evo Japan

A problem with virtually all of the footage of SoulCalibur VI thus far is that the players behind the controls simply weren’t legacy SoulCalibur competitors. Coverage to this point has given us early and important insight into SCVI’s world; now that we have that insight, it’s time to see the game in the hands of players looking to push its gameplay engine!

And that’s where KayaneTV comes in to save the day. She, and members of the French SoulCalibur community, are over at Evo Japan trying out the current build of SCVI. Since Kayane is a SCII Xianghua player of considerable renown, this video contains some of the best gameplay of Namco’s new sword-slinger yet. This is also some of the first footage to properly utilize the new “Soul Charge” mechanic, whose invisible-hitbox activation is functionally similar to another Namco mechanic: Pokkén Tournament‘s Synergy Burst.

Arc System Works “hears your voices” in regards to BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle’s DLC, promises something “very soon”

It might not always seem like it, but game companies really do monitor the consumer’s reaction to their products. Whether they ever acknowledge that reaction publicly is another story altogether, of course. But after the community fiercely split at the proposed DLC scheme of Arc System Work’s Blazblue Cross Tag Battle, ASW decided they couldn’t just continue forward without saying something:

While clearly an attempt at putting out fires (though some argue that they shouldn’t even have to do so, considering BBXTAG will launch below the average $60 price point), the lack of clarity in regards to such a hot-button issue is surprising. With Evo Japan in full swing, perhaps they are saving the mystery for an upcoming reveal.
