Josie is Bruce’s stand-in in Tekken 7, and she’s traded Bruce’s “Pasart Stance” for her “Switch Stance.” The names (and buttons) may be different, but the transitions into each stance offer the same frustrating frame advantage and counter-hit opportunities.

Watching Double_FGC‘s Pokkén Tournament DX channel has, over time, taught me a valuable lesson: if you want to see the true strength of an assist, see what Braixen can do with it.
Braixen’s strong air options, combined with Sunny Day buffs (which she automatically gets in Burst Mode) play very well with Popplio’s double jump buff, allowing her to get more actions in a single block string.
Adding to all of this is Braixen’s ability to charge supports. Where other characters would struggle to have all the resources ready to setup these situations, Braixen will always have Popplio on standby when going into Burst. Popplio might be a rarely seen support in tournament now, but with the options Braixen can dish out with it, I don’t expect this to remain this way.

While we didn’t get to bask in the glory of Lord Yamcha during the open beta, Maximilian luckily got the chance to play the former desert bandit at a Bandai Namco event for Dragon Ball FighterZ last year. While we got a brief look at him via Hellpockets’ breakdown, Max’s video is a more in-depth look at what Yamcha can pull off in battle.
Primarily a rushdown character, Yamcha only has two main special moves: the Wolf Fang Fist and the Gale Claws. Wolf Fang Fist will be the main move you’ll be using as Yamcha, being a multi-hitting physical attack than can be followed up in a variety of ways. Along with a knockdown which is super-cancellable, Yamcha can perform a Wolf Fang Fist Flash by pressing Heavy at any during a WFF string. This takes one stock of meter and knocks the opponent into the air, allowing Yamcha to switch sides and continue the combo.
By pressing the Ki button during WFF, Yamcha can dash through his opponent and appear on the other side, so he can continue his pressure. You can also press Back + Ki to have Yamcha backdash away from the opponent. As for Gale Claws, you’ll mainly want to use this move as your aerial combo ender, as Yamcha has no aerial super.

As usual, Joniosan’s channel is a reliable source of top quality Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 footage. Our coverage of Mikaten continues with another exciting set. World’s most famous Zato=1 player, “Lord” Ogawa, battles Herken (Haaken), who uses Sol, in a dramatic first-to-ten.
Herken’s Sol is the real king of the spectacle here. His nickname should be “one touch death” Sol. He starts off by dominating Ogawa for several rounds, showing extremely optimized combos and capitalizing just about from every hit. Practically every combo ends in a corner-carry knockdown. What’s more, Herken plays around Zato=1 and his minion like few people can; even though Sol doesn’t have too many neutral tools, the player does whatever he can to avoid getting caught in tough pressure from Ogawa. It’s definitely a must-watch. Don’t forget to adjust your system’s sound balance to hear only English commentary.

If you thought the commemorative stamps were odd, you ain’t seen nothing yet. As part of the continuing celebrations of Street Fighter’s 30th anniversary, Capcom have partnered with the tourism board of Japan’s Saga Prefecture to temporarily make Sagat the region’s “sightseeing ambassador”.
The main goal of this collaboration is to advertise the local wares and produce that are made in Saga Prefecture like ginjo sake, locally grown rice, green tea and saltwater cider — with special Street Fighter II branding. As a result, you got “Wave Motion Fist” sake, E. Honda’s special rice, a Blanka ice cream and Dhalsim’s own chai tea blend, to name but a few of the products on offer. You can even buy a commemorative plate, showing all of the Street Fighter II characters chowing down on some of the food from Saga Prefecture.
If you want to buy any of these items, Sagat will opening up his very own pop-up shop in Tokyo’s Ginza Place, running from January 22nd-28th. Not only can you buy things like the aforementioned commemorative plate and a special “Sagat Shouten” cooking apron, but you’ll be able to try some of Saga Prefecture’s local produce at the nearby RAMO FRUTAS cafe, which is having a special Sagat-themed menu to celebrate.
For those actually in Saga Prefecture, you can pick up any of the branded Street Fighter items by heading to the Balloon Museum in Saga City from February 13th to March 31st. Street Fighter V‘s Season 2 DLC cast was… interesting, to say the least. After giving us Akuma at the end of 2016, Capcom doubled-down on five straight brand-new fighters for Season 2 — and did their best to keep each of them a secret, though leaks put an end to that pretty quickly. While the new fighters certainly added more unique flavor to SFV, denying the fans their past favorites was a questionable move for a game already suffering from a lot of negative PR. Was it a betrayal of their fanbase, or an essential move to push Street Fighter V forward creatively? Arguably: both.
Capcom seems to have learned a bit from the experiment — Season 3 delivers us three fan favorites (or four, if you count Blanka!) and two new fighters, for a better spread of new characters vs. classic — and they revealed them all at once, letting players decide if they actually think a Character Pass is worth their money. But that’s the future… what did you, the readers, think of Season 2? What characters did you love? Hate? Love to hate? Here are the results of our reader poll!
It isn’t surprising that Akuma outsold his Season 2 followers at 74.92% of the total votes, but it looks like all of the newcomers did relatively well, with the muscle-bound motorhead selling the least, at 53.44%.
The Raging Demon’s popularity will not be denied, demonstrating just how vital it was to the Street Fighter V roster to include him! He’s such a integral part of Street Fighter at this point, Capcom can’t afford to exclude him. Akuma saw more than double the play of any of the new characters, at 36.44% overall. Interestingly, character usage drops off in the DLC release order — indicating that no newcomer made enough of a splash to unseat their predecessor, but also that more time is needed overall to see which fighters in this season really will hold player interest going forward.
However: it turns out Akuma is not popularity made flesh, that honor belongs to the new Street Fighter darling Menat. She took the best new character award in our 2017 Fighting Game Awards over all of the new characters in any game this past year, so no surprise she wins it here at 31.54%. This chipper little fortune-teller has really won your hearts — at least in terms of character design! Akuma’s new look and Zeku’s touch of class both have their admirers as well, while the Young Commander’s design didn’t do any favors for Neo Shadaloo recruitment.
Akuma appears to be the go-to for those that want to deal their damage with style, while keeping their options open. As expected, age (and moveset) shifting ninja Zeku comes in second place, with Menat following, both of them already recognized as highly-technical characters. It looks like readers feel Abigail and Ed are too simple, or too limited in their options — or both.
Wow, there’s not much room for argument here — you folks are pretty adamant that the Demon’s Path is the road to victory. It’s hard to dispute, after Echo Fox|Tokido’s performances at Evo and Capcom Cup this year. Akuma takes a whopping 71.47% of the total votes, with Abigail’s sheer muscle only scraping out 20.18% as second place — and the rest of Season 2 languishes below 4%!
At the end of the day, this is the most important question when it comes to DLC. The results are bit more balanced overall — but Akuma is still the favorite at 25.41%. But in terms of fun, Abigail is coming up fast on him at 23.86%! If it isn’t the murderous intent of the Satsui no Hado, it looks like the next-best go-to for a good time is just vroom-vrooming over the opposition with Abigail’s impressive strength (and armored run). For fun factor, it seems poor Kolin leaves most of you cold.
There is a lot of dispute as to what characters had the best tools in Season 2, and who was rendered near-useless. But the power of an Evo win propels Akuma to the top spot in strength, while F.A.N.G is still agreed upon as the lowest of the low tiers. Balrog was seen as a frightening opponent, and the Turbulent Wind’s abilities are being recognized; meanwhile poor Ryu, Juri, and Alex were near-lost causes this season, in your view. Abigail, however, is a point of contention, considered both strongest and weakest respectively by multiple voters!
The return of the King of Muay Thai is eagerly anticipated; Sagat takes 28.57% of the total responses — too bad we have to wait until the end of Season 3 to get him. Sakura and Cody both have a healthy fanbase ready for their return, while it looks like we’re not quite sold on Falke or G yet — and why should we be? We barely know anything about them. And at 8.27%, only a small slice of players out there are looking forward to Blanka’s return to Street Fighter… he might be the DLC character we’ll love to hate this year.
