Understand when to use Rage Drive or Rage Art with Tekken 7’s King

Once you are low on health in Tekken 7, you are given a choice: Rage Drive or Rage Art? For some characters one option is drastically superior to the other. For King players, though, both have potentially practical applications. You need to be aware of your current health — and your opponent’s tendencies — in order to make the “right” choice.

BoxeR-King, one of the leads in pushing the King meta, shared his quick breakdown on the pros and cons of each option. Check out his latest video for his reasoning on why you may opt for one option over another, in both combos and neutral.

Brawlhalla adds bear trap-wielding Xull, the Iron Commander, to its roster

Another Legend steps forth to fight in Brawlhalla!

Platform fighter Brawlhalla gains its 36th Legend today, with the addition of a bear trap-wielding brute: Xull, the Iron Commander.

Brawlhalla Xull

Details from Blue Mammoth Games:

Xull is the second Legend to wield the cannon, combining its blunt force with an arsenal of physical grab moves using a bear trap that puts his opponents right in the cannon’s path. Complementing the cannon is an axe, which he wields with deadly force as the first nine-strength Legend – the first Legend with any stat with a value of nine.

Great things can be expected of Xull, Lord Commander of the Iron Legion. Hailing from the same world as Legends Jhala, Teros and Sidra, he’ll prove that orcs have a place amongst the honored in Valhalla.

“Xull opens up new options for fans of the axe, the cannon, and playstyles that favor control.” said Matt Woomer, creative director, Blue Mammoth Games. “I can’t wait to see what players will do with the first nine-strength legend.”

Brawlhalla is available to play for free (with a rotating selection of characters) on Steam and PlayStation 4, while purchasing the All Legends Pack (on Steam) or the Founder’s Pack (on PlayStation 4) unlocks access to every character in Brawlhalla’s roster.

GameStop-Exclusive Dragon Ball FighterZ figures hint at the game’s plot

Bandai America recently announced some GameStop-exclusive Dragon Stars figures for Dragon Ball FighterZ. What’s interesting about these figures, however, isn’t that they’re exclusive — rather the figures themselves clue us in to some details about the upcoming game’s plot.

The figures in question are for Goku and Vegeta in some alternate, red and black colors. However, these are more than just alternate colors, as Bandai Namco’s tweet specifically refers to them as “clones,” and that they have “arrived to threaten the safety of the planet.”

Combined with what we’ve seen in previous story trailers for the game, this seems to confirm that antagonist Android 21 is somehow involved in a plot to use clones of the series’ heroes for some nefarious purpose.

Both of these “Dragon Ball FighterZ edition” Goku and Vegeta Dragon Stars figures are available for purchase for $19.99 over at GameStop.

The Battle for the Stones finals will not use the December 5th patch of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite

Dante mains can breathe a sigh of relief, as Capcom has announced today that the Battle for the Stones finals will not use the incoming December 5th patch of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. While it could have been the ultimate test of whether players can adapt to new situations with little preparation time, Capcom wants the players to compete on “the version they’ve had the most time with.”

So Dante and the Reality Stone get one last hurrah before they are nerfed into the dirt by the new patch. However, I think Capcom should now change one of the circuit’s Stone effects to force players to switch to the patched version of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite for just one game…

The final set of 2017 DLC characters and the “Dante Must Die” balance patch both launch on December 5th, so qualified players should take their consoles offline, to avoid accidentally updating their games!

Genesis 5 adds Street Fighter V, Pokkén Tournament DX and Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite to its line-up

After having Street Fighter V on the Genesis 4 line-up, the Genesis TO is adding more traditional fighting games to its next event. Alongside the big three of Super Smash Bros. 64, Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Genesis 5 will have tournaments for Street Fighter V, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite and Pokkén Tournament DX.

If you want to literally style on your opponent, Genesis 5 will also be running a DDR Extreme tournament — so lace up your dancing shoes and start practicing. The SFV, MvC:I, Pokkén DX and DDR Extreme events will all take place on the Saturday (January 20th), and players can purchase a special $30 one-day pass if they are only attending for these tournaments.

General registration for Genesis 5 is open until December 4th, with late registration closing on December 26th. If you want to attend Sunday finals at the Paramount Theatre, you will have to buy separate tickets alongside your Genesis 5 pass. All the information regarding registration can be found over on the Genesis 5 smash.gg page.

Street Fighter: More than Meets the Eye? Street Fighter X Transformers figures coming to Japan in 2018

New from the “crossovers we dreamed about as kids, but never thought we’d get,” department, Street Fighter-themed Transformer figures are now an officially licensed thing. At least in Japan, anyway.

Available starting in May of 2018, these figures will feature Chun-Li, Ken, Ryu, and M. Bison as transforming collectible toys. The former two will be available in a set that costs ¥8640 (approx. $77 USD), while the latter two will be in a set that costs ¥12960 (approx. $115 USD). The only disappointment in these figures: the wasted opportunity to make Chun-Li into a helicopter.

Brain_F talks about option selects, and how terminology is used in our games

Some thoughts on the meaning of the term “option select.”

Heavy-hitting Street Fighter V Balrog main Brian_F wants to make sure we’re all on the same page here. When you say “option select,” do you mean what he means?

He discusses how by the most literal definition, buffering special moves into normal moves in neutral (resulting in a whiffed normal while out of range, but an automatic normal-to-special combo if the opponent happens to extend a hurtbox into the normal move) is technically an option select, because it provides two different outcomes from the same input, depending on the opponent’s actions. How about mashing out an invincible reversal while in blockstun, in case the blockstring is dropped? Brian_F goes on to discuss the general community’s attitude toward option selects in fighting games, and how option select mechanics are unavoidable in our games’ designs.

“Raging Storm” CMV shows off Rock Howard’s combos from The King of Fighters XIV, XIII, 98UM, & 2002UM

It’s not often that a combo video can act as the de facto music video for a song. That’s the hook for YouTuber Coliflowerz‘s latest The King of Fighters combo video collaboration: “Raging Storm.”

With well-edited combo footage from The King of Fighters XIV, XIII, 98UM and 2002UM, this collaboration with musician Casual Toast is a vehicle for his cover of the Rock Howard’s KOFXIV theme song “Emergence,” taking it from fighting game BGM to what rightfully should be a King of Fighters anime opening.
