Shin Tanimoto shows off 100% combos and more in Street Fighter EX Plus Alpha

While a lot of the competitive attention is focused on Street Fighter EX 2 Plus, Street Fighter EX Plus Alpha still has some amazing things to behold. While a lot of the mechanics that would make EX 2 the more complete title were missing, the ability to combo supers into supers still make combos in this game a sight to behold.

Featuring combos from Allen Snider, Blair Dame, and Akuma — who has two infinites in the game — this will be sure to get fans salivating for ARIKA’s new title.

New leaks look at the future of Street Fighter V, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, Dragon Ball FighterZ, and Soulcalibur VI

In fighting game circles, November has become a prime month for leaks, what with many competitive circuits seasons coming to an end, as well as the PlayStation Experiencing drawing near. This year is no exception as a pretty massive leak has just dropped over on Reddit.

The leak concerns itself with a number of fighting games (and a couple of non-fighters). While it’s easy to dismiss this leak as just someone on the internet making stuff up, there is some evidence that indicates that it may be worth taking seriously. Specifically, the same person had apparently leaked the inclusion of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in Injustice 2‘s Fighter Pack 3.

Regarding Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, the leak talks mostly about DLC characters currently in development for the game (beyond the 6 currently announced characters). Specifically, it mentions Star-Lord, Ms. Marvel, Green Goblin, Wolverine, Cyclops, Psylocke, Magneto, Storm, Deadpool, Doctor Doom, Daredevil, Asura, Lady, Gill, Rashid, Captain Commando, Nina, Deis, Regina, Gene, Vergil, Akuma, and Apollo Justice. While the number seems imbalanced towards the Capcom side, it does reflect the fact that the current DLC pack is Marvel heavy. Now not all these will drop at the same time, the leak indicates that these are split up into multiple seasons, and that the game is set to have at least five seasons’ worth of characters.

In addition to the above, there’s also mention of other updates coming to the game. These include a an upgrade to the game’s graphics and UI, a four player 2v2 team mode, and the addition of Ultron-Sigma as a playable solo character (in the vein of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom‘s giants).

Now as for Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, the leak mostly talks about the characters coming to the game. Specifically mentioned as DLC characters are Sagat, Sakura, Cody, and Sodom. This is in addition to 2 newcomers, one of which may be Roxy, and the other, a Shadaloo Doll. In addition to these, there is also word of Crimson Viper, Q, Necro, and Oro being added as free characters.

In regards to Critical Arts, of which we recently learned there would be no second critical art at launch, the leak states that the original plan was to add them at launch, but that they will no be added at a later date.

Not content to focus on game’s getting updates, the leak also has some info on some of the 8 DLC characters for Dragon Ball FighterZ.  Three of the DLC characters are supposedly Broly, base form Goku, and base form Vegeta. In addition to these, Bardock, Raditz, Goku Black are also supposedly in development, and even nearly complete, however it’s unknown if they’re part of the launch roster, or are being held back as DLC.

In addition to this, the leak talks about a version of Dragon Ball FighterZ coming to Nintendo Switch sometime later in 2018.

The most surprising bit of information in the leak is that Soul Calibur VI is supposedly in development. The game is supposedly in development for PlayStation 4, PC, and Nintendo Switch (with no Xbox One version). The Switch version will supposedly have Link return as a guest character. The game, or at least the PlayStation 4 version should be revealed at PSX.

Beyond that, the leak covers some non-fighting games, with information on the status of the Resident Evil 2 remake, and the existence of Devil May Cry 5 and a Pokemon game for Nintendo Switch.

Of course, being leaks, we advise our readers to take all of these with a grain of salt, and to stay locked on to Shoryuken for more on this and related stories as they develop.

Get your opponents into the vortex with these hard-to-block resets for Dante in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite

With its return to classic mechanics, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite follows closer to games like Marvel vs. Capcom 2 in that it focuses more on resets than just long combos. As such, learning how to actually set up and land these resets is an important part of becoming effective at the game.

For any Dante players, Kitoragi has put out a new video showing off a couple of reset and mix-ups that he can do. Originally developed by Rrambam, the first reset uses a box jump out of Dante’s “Million Stabs” for a left-right reset. The second is a a variation, using a tag to get in on opponents who figured out the cross-up on the first one. The important thing here however is that the cross-up attack will prevent the opponent from trying to throw the incoming character.

Learn the basics of commentary fundamentals with Stephen “Sajam” Lyon

In an age dominated by streaming and esports, more and more people are wanting to share their gaming knowledge on the mic. But just because you know something about a fighting game doesn’t mean you’re prepared to sell it on the fly — and by his own admission, Stephen “Sajam” Lyon knows this firsthand.

Experience is a valuable teacher, and Sajam’s experience and hard work has turned him into one of the most in-demand commentators in the FGC. It’s a different type of tutorial video then the FGC usually sees, but Sajam graciously imparts great advice here for anyone that wants to work on their casting fundamentals.

Mikado Arcade’s Super Street Fighter Carnival 2017 tournament series continues with Street Fighter EX2+

“Super Street Fighter Carnival 2017” is the regularly occurring tournament series of Japan’s famous Mikado Arcade, featuring revolving classic arcade titles for its patrons to compete in. If you’ve missed any of the past action, there’s a month’s worth of hype tournaments to catch up on!

It’s interesting to go back and look at EX2+ after obsessing over any new footage for Arika’s latest unnamed project. This tournament — and Mikado’s excellent players’ competence with the full cast — really shows off the strength of the EX exclusive characters move-sets and design. It’s also a reminder of just how popular (and powerful) Doctrine Dark and Area were in EX2+, in case you’ve forgotten what “EX-plosive” oki felt like.

If you want to keep up with SSFC2017, you can subscribe to Mikado’s official YouTube channel. You can also try to catch the action in real time when they livestream.

Shoryuken interview: Teemo teems with success and humility after his win at Canada Cup 2017

Unless you’ve been sleeping under a rock, you know by now of the Cinderella story that emerged from the controversial Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite bracket at Canada Cup 2017. 20-year-old Kitchener, Ontario native Luis “Teemo” Gomez shocked the world with his Nova/Dormammu combination to take out three entrants in the Battle of the Stones finale to find his way into the event himself, capturing the Mind Stone along the way. He is the first Canadian in a number of years to take a Canada Cup event, and left the whole venue in a collective euphoria with his victory.

After the trophy ceremony, I spoke with Teemo about his big win.

Corey “Missing Person” Lanier: Congratulations on your win. Having just happened, have you had any time to process the win? How are you feeling right now?

TeemoLuis “Teemo” Gomez: I still can’t believe it. I just tried to make sure not to think about it [while I was playing]. I didn’t want to think about if I would win, or anything about the future. I just took it one game at a time, and that was it. I won. I haven’t been able to process it, to be honest. [laughs]

Missing Person: You came on strong in this tournament, beating the likes of Justin Wong and NYChrisG on the way to the finals. When in all of this did you start thinking victory was a legitimate possibility?

Teemo: Going into the tournament, I did feel pretty good overall. I felt like I could beat almost anyone. After beating Chris, I felt pretty good. Going into the Justin Wong match — seeing his team, I knew that I could beat him with mine. After beating him and playing Richard Nguyen, I choked on a lot of things. I couldn’t be mad about that — it was completely my fault, and he capitalized on all of my mistakes. But I knew I could beat him. Seeing how the loser’s bracket progressed — and Justin beating Filipino Champ — I knew I could beat both him and Richard, and that winning was a possibility.

Missing Person: You had a lot of mental toughness. When I watched you, you were completely stone-faced. How were you able to maintain your composure?

Teemo: I just did my best to try and play the way I play at home. If I make a mistake, I just laugh at myself, or tell myself it’s alright, that I’ll do better next time. In previous tournaments I choked a lot. There’s something about this game that I just understand. Even though it’s crazy and a lot of crazy things can happen, I just try to keep a good mentality that I just need to not mistakes and outplay my opponents.

Missing Person: With your team of Dormammu and Nova, how long have you been in the lab? How much are you grinding it out right now?

Teemo: When I do play, it’s at least 3-4 hours per day, which is a combination of training mode and ranked. Some days, I won’t do ranked and just stay in training mode, trying to find something. Sometimes I’ll play a lot of ranked just to play as many players as I can. It’s full of good players, like Noel Brown, Fchamp, Justin, and RyanLV. Some days I’ll also take breaks, and tell myself not to play. At most, I’ll think about the game and clear my head, especially if it’s after a day where I lost a lot.

Missing Person: Toronto has a strong community for the game; including yourself, there’s also SJ, and Broshadian here. How do you feel the local community has helped you?

Teemo: SJ and I were friendly rivals in Marvel vs. Capcom 3. We’ve always played with each other. I’d go to his house to play even though I’m from Kitchener, which is kind of far from Toronto. He’s an amazing training partner. He’s a player who is so strong, and has had success in anime titles, Marvel, and Street Fighter. He’s also super strong in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. He got second place at our monthly to me. It’s a community that supports each other so much, especially at majors. They just love to cheer each other on. They stick together in losses and wins. I love playing with these guys. Even if there’s a tournament where I know I won’t be competing, I will still show up to support them.

Missing Person: This is the first time — since Bee Ball won a number of years ago — that a Canadian has won a Canada Cup title. How does that feel?

Teemo: I do feel really good about that, because all the killers were here. No pool was free. Everyone struggled just to get out of their pools. I am just proud that I was able to represent Canada and win. I was even happy that NickCam was able to get fifth and do so well.

mvci_dormammu

Missing Person: Heading into Battle for the Stones, how excited are you to head to California to try and repeat your success here?

Teemo: I haven’t even thought about that. Even going into top 8, I told myself to not even think of the stone, to just play each game and not even think about what comes next. But now, I’m excited. It’s going to be a great tournament and a great experience, and I can’t wait to represent Canada there.

Missing Person: You don’t have to tell me specifics — but have you given any thoughts as to what team you’d force your opponent to use with the Mind Stone?

Teemo: I have some ideas, but I still want to see what I can pick that will really mess with the opponent. I want it to be something that even if they play basic, they can’t do anything.

Missing Person: Are there any shout-outs you’d like to give?

Teemo: Shout-outs to the Toronto community and NickCam for making top 8 and playing amazing. Shout-outs to SJ for being such an amazing training partner and such a good friend, always supporting me in tournaments and training. Shout-outs to all the Americans that came; it made this tournament really amazing to watch and play in. I was happy that even though teams were super early on Friday, they still joined and had a great time playing. I also want to give one last shout-out to Bison’s Auto Shop. It was a place where I lived that used to have weeklies, but unfortunately they can’t do it anymore. The people that I met there even when I was young as 12 learning to play Street Fighter IV have all been so important to my growth as a player.

Pokkén Tournament DX patch notes revealed and translated, plans to drop patch this month

It was previously announced that Pokkén Tournament DX was going to get a new patch, adding the much-begged for recording function and online team battle. The tease also cited new rewards within the game, and promised an ‘enhanced’ experience. The main thing that was missing from the list of promises, though, was a date.

While we still don’t know exactly when, Namco’s latest announcement has helped narrow down the release to mid-November. Considering the time of this publication, that has to be very soon, speculatively within the next week or so. Accompanying this announcement was a list of bug fixes, mostly centered around the inadvertent “infinite jump” glitch Popplio gave. Here’s the listed bug fixes, translated by the good folks over at PokkénArena:

It’s surprising to see a patch from Namco with absolutely no balance changes. It is generally considered that Pokkén Tournament DX is balanced in its current state, but Namco is a company that likes to make revisions — perhaps they are giving DX more time to incubate before committing to any meta-changing decisions.
