The New York Yankees are taking a swing at esports by joining up with Echo Fox via an “investor partnership”

Just as the Miami HEAT has a “strategic partnership” with Misfits, the New York Yankees are now taking a swing at esports thanks to a recently announced investor partnership. This partnership sees the baseball team allying with Vision Esports, a company that holds majority share in franchises like Twin Galaxies, Vision Entertainment and most importantly for the FGC, Echo Fox.

The size of the investment has not been disclosed, but the goal is to “accelerate the growth and increase the global brand awareness” for Vision Esports’ franchises, according to Forbes. Seeing as the Yankees have become their own brand outside of baseball, expect this partnership to result in more Echo Fox merch in the future. I’m hoping for Tokido-branded tape measures to be available this Christmas.

What this will mean for the FGC remains to be seen, but it signals that there is some serious money being funneled into keeping the esports dream alive. With Echo Fox’s FGC roster already dominating Tekken, NRS games, Street Fighter and Marvel, it’s a wonder where they will go next. Fingers crossed for them holding their own fighting game event inside Yankee Stadium.

Sigma, Monster Hunter, and Black Panther show what they’re worth in this Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite roundup

With the recent addition of DLC characters in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, the tech just keeps piling up. We know, it’s hard to sift through everything YouTube has to offer — so here’s the best of what we’ve seen so far in another solid roundup!

First, we have desk showing off some solid 9000 damage Sigma solo combos. He is a little reminiscent of vanilla Marvel 3, with the capability of using all four bars on level 1 Hypers that combo into each other.

rooflemonger has also still been in the lab with Sigma, finding that he could indeed improve on Sigma’s bread-and-butter combos that he displayed earlier.

Moving on to Monster Hunter, here’s four more videos from rooflemonger, who showcases some of Monster Hunter’s best starter combos. He also discusses the finer nuances of her demon mode, and armor.

Next up, we have Maximilian — who showcases some nifty time-freeze combos from Monster Hunter.

Meno Jazz presents some Monster Hunter conversions:

NurseLee also offered up some bread-and-butters for the increasingly-popular “Ungawaifu”:

Is this a post-patch glitch, where using the Reality Stone caused Haggar to momentarily vanish…?

Finally, we have stream footage of Echo Fox’s Justin Wong test driving Black Panther against Marn. He may have found yet another cog in his perfect team, as he rips Marn to shreds.

Noel Vermillion, Chie Satonaka, and Waldstein blast their way into BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle

As Arc Revolution Cup 2017 approaches, Arc System Works decided to hit us with a double dose of character reveals for BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle, following the additions of BlazBlue’s Rachel Alucard and Hazama, along with RWBY’s Weiss Schnee.

Today we welcome BlazBlue’s Successor of the Azure, Noel Vermillion, Persona 4 Arena’s “Spunky Dragon with Deadly Legs” Chie Satonaka, and Under Night In-Birth’s Waldstein — who carries the EXS of Hecatonchair, and serves as the game’s first grappler.

From the brief snippets of gameplay, we can see that Noel retains Spring Raid as her Furious Action, several of her gun normals, what appears to be Assault Through, as well as Zero Gun: Fenrir, as one of her Distortion Skills.

Chie obviously brings her Persona, Tomoe, into battle, and seems to retain the freezing effects of her 5C, her Herculean Strike from Ultimax, as well as her Rampage and Skull Cracker rekkas — along with Black Spot and Dragon Kick. She also has her God’s Hand as her Distortion Skill; though Power Charge and her Awakened Skill, Agneyastra, were nowhere to be seen.

Waldstein appears to have Wirbelwind as his Furious Action, while his Infinite Worth, Werfen Erschlagen, serves as his Distortion Skill. His command grabs also look as painful and powerful as ever, and it will be interesting to see if his normals retain their projectile-destroying properties from his home series.

The trailer closes with a stinger line from Jin, implying annoyance at another fighter who’s “wandered into this world” — which leads me to believe it’s either Tsubaki, Makoto, Hakumen, or Celica (whose stage, Magister’s City: Ishana, is already confirmed to be in the game). You can see the full trailer below, which notes the next reveals will come in late November on the “ArcNama” stream.

Are you excited about these recent reveals? Who else would you like to see be “on the way” for BBTAG? Tell us in the comments below!

BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle will be released in 2018 for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and Steam PC — and will be playable at this weekend’s Arc Revolution Cup 2017 in Japan.

3-on-3 Street Fighter V action: Red Bull’s “The Pit” takes place this weekend in Cologne, Germany

A hardcore Street Fighter V fight comes to Germany this weekend!

The Red Bull Proving Grounds Fall Season Finals aren’t the only fighting game action Red Bull is playing host to this weekend: across the pond in Cologne, Germany, Red Bull is set to run The Pit, a “hardcore” 3-on-3 clash of Street Fighter V pros, on October 21 and 22. From Red Bull Esports:

It’s loud. It’s rough. It’s Red Bull: The Pit. 30 years ago, Capcom released the legendary beat ‘em up Street Fighter and by now, it enjoys universal cult status. In celebration of that anniversary an event in a class of its own will be hosted: on October 21st and 22nd, 2017, the fighting game will be brought back to its roots. In an unparalleled 3v3 tournament with 32 [teams] overall… With renowned team captains like Luffy, will2pack and TKR, the best 16 teams out of 32 will fight for glory on Sunday, October 22nd. The event will go live at 11 AM with the doors to Bootshaus Cologne opening for the audience at 10 AM. Be there in time to soak up the Fight Club atmosphere or show your skills in some free plays! The viewers at home should go ahead and bookmark our livestream on Twitch!

The competitors won’t be on their own in The Pit, as the teams will consist of three players each. Whoever takes down all opposing players will win and advance to the next round. A combination of strength and tactical refinement are the keys to beating the European Street Fighter elite. Red Bull: The Pit will capture the unique and old school feel of Japanese arcades by bringing the once-off flair to life on lag-free esports screens by ZOWIE.

Put them in, coach! Sports costumes for three Street Fighter V characters will arrive alongside Zeku on October 24

October 24th is already a big day for Street Fighter V players, as the final Season 2 character — Zeku — will make his way to the game on that date. That isn’t all Capcom has packed into the update, though.

The Street Fighter team announced that three new sports-themed costumes will make their way alongside the character. Featured in this set is Zangief (who is donning a wrestling outfit reminiscent of WWE Hall of Famers The Road Warriors), Karin (who is geared up to ride in an equestrian event), and Kolin (who is ready to go for the gold in Pyeongchang, Korea, in some figure skating).

Expect to pay the usual premium costume prices (usually $3.99 USD each) for these ones, as well.

Say hello to the perfect warrior in this introduction video for Cell in Dragon Ball FighterZ

He’s mean, he’s green, but he’s not from planet Namek and he’s definitely not your friend. Bandai Namco have dropped a Dragon Ball FightrZ introduction video for Cell, the arrogant experiment who achieved his “perfect” form by absorbing strong fighters.

Cell was seen in Dragon Ball FighterZ as early as the E3 reveal trailer, and could have possibly been the earliest foreshadowing of the coming of the androids, since his own story arc in the manga and anime series overlaps with theirs.

Check out the perfect menace’s introduction video below — and get even more acquainted with Cell’s appearance in Dragon Ball FighterZ by checking out this breakdown by Maximilian.

Taito’s arcade port of Street Fighter V will be playable at Toushinsai this weekend

Announced earlier this month by Taito, the company will be running a special location test for their arcade port of Street Fighter V at Toushinsai this weekend. Shown off in a CapcomTV feature, these custom cabinets will be playable at the event, with Taito running a tournament on Sunday for those in attendance.

This mini-tournament will be streamed via a dedicated Toushinsai Twitch channel, so you can tune in to see how these specialist cabinets function. Based on the CapcomTV footage, the cabinets are just computers running the Steam version of Street Fighter V, with each cabinet pair playing in a private Battle Lounge. You can actually look up these accounts on CFN — they are listed as Toushinsai_01, Toushinsai_02 and so on.

Should Toushinsai attendees respond well to this location test, we may see Street Fighter actually returning to its arcade roots — rather than Capcom just releasing something titled “Arcade Edition.”

The next BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle character is most likely from the Persona franchise

We’ll soon know the next combatants who can’t escape crossing fate — there will be a new BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle character reveal on October 20th. While we already know that much, we are left to speculate as to who the characters will be… The last reveal, showing Hazama, Rachel, and Weiss, left out the other franchises in the dust.

It’s not surprising that Arc System Works will now likely turn to Persona and possibly Under Night fans. A Japanese Persona news account is teasing a reveal, saying that — although only two Persona characters have been shown so far — Persona fans should eagerly watch the coming reveal.

It seems like a natural guess that the two leading ladies from Persona 4 will make the cut next; I’m betting on Yukiko Amagi and Chie Satonaka, personally. We’ll know very shortly, as Arc System Works will show it during a stream on Twitch and niconico on October 20th, 8:00 PM JST.
