More of Retsu’s Mad Gear members arrive in this latest set of CFN Portal profiles

After taking a quick break to cover Street Fighter V‘s newest arrival, Menat, the Shadaloo Combat Research Institute has continued to reveal their research on the remaining members of Retsu’s underlings in his incarnation of the Mad Gear Gang, seen in 1993’s Final Fight 2. Today, we start with Eliza’s knife-wielding partner-in-crime, Mary. Low-ranking Shadaloo soldier Private Nakagawa returns to provide his customary narration of the Activity Reports.

Private Nakagawa: “Another sexy knife nut. She pays much attention and care to her health, in order to maintain her good looks and beautiful appearance.”

More combos, setups, loops, and semi-inifinites: here’s another helping of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite pre-release videos

Though its official release is still a couple of days away, not only has Capcom given some players early access to Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, but some players have been able to purchase the game via stores breaking the street date. The result is that we have even more videos showing off the game, even if it isn’t supposed to be out yet.

First up, we have some Dormammu videos from Olaf Redland. The concept behind the combos shown here is using flight cancelling to continually loop his opponent with his Dark Hole special.

We’ve talked to Olaf a bit more about this, and sadly for anyone thinking we’ve found something gamebreaking, the combo itself isn’t a true infinite. That said, it’s still a pretty good combo, especially with how he can pull it off from nearly full screen.

Speaking of loops, Rynge has shared a video of one way Zero can set up mid-screen lightning loops.

Next up, we have Panda Global’s RayRay showing off a combo for the team of Gamora and Ultron. He seems pretty impressed with the team and says that it’ll likely be his first team in the game.

Meanwhile, Echo Fox’s Justin Wong has been playing around with a number of characters. One of these is Captain America, who Justin demonstrated a pretty damaging Power Stone combo for on his stream in a clip that was shared by Panda Global.

Justin also demonstrated an amazing Spider-Man combo on his stream, that you can see in this clip taken by HiFight.

Flash was also on hand in Justin’s stream and showcased some stuff as well. Here he demonstrates a set up for the team of Rocket Raccoon and Doctor Strange.

HiFight also clipped this bit from Apology Man’s stream, showing him teching two throws from a tag in. The interesting bit here however is basically how it demonstrates that players can use tag ins to set up a second throw after the first attempt is teched.

Spab on the other hand has been experimenting with Ryu, demonstrating how a team can confirm into a combo by tagging out of an anti-air Shoryuken.

He’s also demonstrated a Soul Stone Infinity Storm extension combo for his particular team of Ryu and Strider Hiryu.

Speaking of teams, Evil Geniuses ChrisG has been hard at work with the team of Jedah and Morrigan, aka “Team Darkstalkers”. The king of Morrigan in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 has put together a video demonstrating some concepts for the team.

Last, but not least, UltraDavid shared this un-rollable ground reset for Thor.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite officially launches on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on September 19.

Shoryuken review: Seimitsu LS-56-01-AS multi-tension lever (Arcade Shock exclusive)

A joystick that can provide exactly the amount of resistance you want.

When it comes to controller modification, aesthetics get a lot of attention — but what primarily matters to the player is, as Arcade Shock puts it, “user experience.” The levers that are most predominant in factory-made arcade sticks today are the ubiquitous Sanwa Denshi JLF (used in Razer and Qanba’s products, and any stick that is marketed as “professional” quality) and the HORI Hayabusa (the automatic inclusion in all of HORI’s full-size fightsticks). These levers share a great deal in common: at stock specs, both are square-gated, ball-topped, and offer about the same degree of spring resistance — with the Hayabusa being marginally looser than a standard Sanwa JLF. This is the typical Japanese arcade-style model.

seimitsu multi-tension lever 9For those players that didn’t start their fighting game training on Japanese sticks, they may have grown used to the significantly higher-tension levers used in North American arcade units, or the Korean Crown models renowned for being the sticks to play Tekken on. For those that crave some more “oomph” in their lever, Arcade Shock commissioned this lever kit from Seimitsu. It is at first glance a very typical Japanese lever, but by including five different springs to modify the lever’s resistance, a user can dramatically alter the feel of playing on this stick. Arcade Shock provided us one to try out exactly that.

Custom springs aren’t anything new, but the Seimitsu LS-56-01-AS kit makes the process easier by shipping with five different springs of various stiffness, ready to go. This streamlines the process significantly, as rather than hunting down different tensions to try, you have a wide range of resistance available to try out for yourself immediately, and see what suits your taste.

seimitsu multi-tension lever scale

You can see the range data on the scale above; Arcade Shock includes the comparable tensions of other Seimitsu models. The softest is 0.4 lbf (pounds of force), ranging through 0.9 lbf (the default spring, already installed in the lever), and 1.12 lbf, up to a some really stiff ranges : 2 lbf and 4 lbf, well above typical for Japanese levers. The stick comes packed with a basic black shaft cover, dust cover, and balltop (but Sanwa Denshi/HORI balltops are also compatible, if you want to swap colors), and a very ordinary square gate (that can also be replaced by a differently-shaped restrictor, if desired). They also include some extra C-clips because — you know it — these things are bound to break or go missing when they fly across the room.

seimitsu multi-tension lever 1
seimitsu multi-tension lever 2

seimitsu multi-tension lever 3

To swap the springs out, you need to pop that C-clip off the shaft (a flat-tipped screwdriver or a pair of pliers usually serves that purpose well) and pull the shaft assembly apart, just like on most levers. That takes a bit of caution and practice — you want to be careful to not damage the C-clip while making sure the shaft assembly doesn’t just spill apart on you. The spring sits around the shaft itself right in the middle of the assembly.

seimitsu multi-tension lever 8
seimitsu multi-tension lever 6
seimitsu multi-tension lever 7

Because there isn’t an “easy” way to swap springs, finding the tension you actually like can prove a bit of a chore, as you need to extract the spring from this assembly each time you want to try something else. The joystick will mount perfectly into the bracket used by a Sanwa or HORI lever with no modification, but because of how tricky it can be to get that spring in/out, I recommend deciding what tension you want to use before you mount the lever in your fightstick case.

Original HORI Hayabusa lever
Seimitsu LS-56-01-AS lever

Installation note: while the five-pin connector is reversed from the HORI/Sanwa setting, the lever should still be oriented facing the same way to ensure the switch directions are still matched up.

So, installation aside, how does it feel? In my (highly subjective!) comparisons, the softer tensions are comparable to most Japanese sticks; 0.4 lbf feels as loose or even a little lighter than a stock Hayabusa, while 0.9-1.12 lbf covers the Sanwa Denshi JLF range, and slightly stiffer. The 2 lbf and 4 lbf springs are the really interesting ones. The 2 lbf feels comparable to those solid bat-topped arcade sticks I grew up with before Mad Catz brought the JLF to North America, or a Crown; while the 4 lbf is a monster, however — definitely a spring for players that really want their stick to feel solid. I found the 4 lbf spring actually tiring to manipulate and play on (and a bit tricky to install, too!).

Tekken-5-Kazuya-Mishima-841-1-Is this lever kit for you? It has a lot going for it: even before the swappable springs, it’s a solid and comfortable Seimitsu lever. When you factor in the extra springs and the reasonable cost — $29.95 USD — this is a very attractive package if you’re in the market for a new lever. Head over to Arcade Shock to check it out. The tension your lever provides can make a big difference in your game — one of the reasons stiffer joysticks are preferred by many for Tekken titles, due to their quick return-to-neutral-position response. This lever kit accomplishes exactly what it was intended for, and is definitely worth a look.

Pros:

  • Included spring selection provides a great range of different tensions
  • Immediately compatible with any five-pin fightstick setting and other brands’ accessories
  • Reasonable price

Cons:

  • Spring installation/swapping isn’t any easier than a regular lever

Got beef? It’s time to get Salty at Revolution 2017, thanks to their grudge matches

There’s nothing better than a good grudge in the FGC, and apparently Revolution 2017 agrees. The UK’s Anime major has announced that there will be a secondary stage devoted entirely to grudge matches, run by Rice Digital.

So if you’ll be in Europe and fancy proving a point in front of live viewers, get your slot booked. Pick your format and your game of choice — Fight of Gods grudge matches anyone? — and talk to NGI. The matches will all be streamed of course, so the whole world can watch you settle a grudge by perfectly executing a Jesus infinite or two.

The Salty Suite is nothing new, but it’s great to see a bit of flavor added to the UK’s biggest anime event of the year. Hopefully there are going to be some great matches lined up, with plenty of context and a whole lot of salt. Fingers crossed.

Oh, and check out the new Revolution 2017 trailer:

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite character introductions: Hawkeye, Ultron, Zero, Haggar, Ghost Rider, & Arthur

The Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite character guides just keep coming from Unequalled Media and FingerCramp, as we continue to steadily approach Tuesday’s release. This next batch of six videos contains tutorials for Hawkeye, Ultron, Zero, the Mayor of New Metro City Mike Haggar, Ghost Rider, and Sir Arthur.

As usual, Capcom UK Community Manager Matt “The Street Writer” Edwards is back to provide a brief character overview and a breakdown of each of their special moves, Hyper combos and unique skills, such as Arthur being able to jump cancel each of his air specials. He closes by providing an Infinity Stone recommendation for each character, such as using the Power Stone’s ability to negate advancing guard to continue Ultron’s relentless drone pressure, giving Ghost Rider or Zero the Mind Stone to utilize several Hypers continuously, or equipping Hawkeye or Arthur with the Time Stone, which provides them with improved runaway games and powerful projectile loops when the Infinity Storm is activated. You can find all six videos below — which also provide a listen to each character’s new theme.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite will be released in North America and Europe on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam PC this Tuesday, September 19th. A Japanese release on the same platforms will follow on Thursday, September 21st. You can find the other two groups of tutorials released so far below. Don’t forget to also check out this basics tutorial from Sajam and Rip, as well as the first two episodes of UM|Tyrant’s MvC:I Beginner’s Guide, which covers Infinite’s new mechanics, as well as a detailed breakdown of the powers of the six Infinity Stones.
