Splyce signs Rene “RyanLV” Romero to their fighting game roster

Picking up another Ryan who is amazing at Marvel vs. Capcom, Splyce have signed current number two on the Curleh Circuit–Rene “RyanLV” Romero–ahead of Evo 2017. With victories at CEO 2017, West Coast Warzone 6, Final Round 20, Frosty Faustings IX and SCR 2017 to name but a few, Splyce have certainly picked a winner in RyanLV.

With set wins over all previous Evo champions for Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, RyanLV looks to be the player to lift that trophy on Sunday morning. He joins fellow Ryan and Marvel god, Ryan “Filipino Champ” Ramirez as part of Splyce’s fighting game roster. We could even see a Splyce vs. Splyce final, should the spirit of Marvel look favorably on the two Ryans.

Pokkén Tournament DX will be playable at Evo 2017, thanks to Nintendo and the Pokémon Company

While Pokkén Tournament may have narrowly missed out on the coveted Player’s Choice spot for Evo 2017, the Pokémon fighting game will still be a fixture at this year’s Evo. By visiting the special Pokkén Tournament DX booth, players can play an early build of the game and sign up to the new “Pokkén Tournament DX Academy”.

As reported by Nintendo Versus:

“This year, Nintendo is attending the event with a booth space featuring playable kiosks for the Pokkén Tournament DX fighting game.

During Evo, Nintendo will be playfully “recruiting” people to join the virtual Pokkén Tournament DX Academy, which provides a direct line of communication between Nintendo and the Pokkén Tournament DX players.

By signing up for the Academy, members will receive exclusive tips and tricks directly from Nintendo and the game’s development team, as well as invitations to a special Nintendo event at PAX West in Seattle.

Fans and pro players who sign up will be entered into an on-site drawing for the chance to win a Nintendo Switch system and the Pokkén Tournament DX game when it launches on Sept. 22.”

In addition to learning how Pokkén is really played, Evo attendees can possibly win themselves a Nintendo Switch and a copy of Pokkén Tournament DX. With the Switch selling out everywhere, this is a good a chance as any to get your hands on the coveted system.

BornFree unearths Tokido’s “I Body Him” quote from Red Bull Kumite 2015

It is the personality of the players that make up the most important and exciting parts of fighting game tournaments. We’re in an age now where, thanks to subscriber walls and non-archived footage, we risk losing moments of hype and/or hilarity.

BornFree submits this recently scavenged Tokido clip for Red Bull Kumite 2015 as an example of both.

Evo 2017 is just around the corner, and soon plenty of players will get their chance to cut a memorable moment the way Tokido did here. Let’s hope they have the same ease and charisma he displayed at the Red Bull Kumite.

PND|Ketchup looks at “What’s Changed” in Injustice 2’s July update

After doing a series of videos covering the changes of some of the Injustice: Gods Among Us veterans heading into Injustice 2, PND|Ketchup and Mustard have decided to make videos looking at any patch changes that come to the game, starting with the title’s most recent update.

Though it was more about fixing bugs and providing some quality-of-life improvements to the game, the patch did impact several characters by fixing a bug that allowed several heroes and villains to get full combos off of throw techs while there traits were active. These included the likes of Atrocitus, Batman, Dr. Fate and Brainiac.

In the case of Atrocitus and Batman, this removes some extremely high-damaging combos that they could get off of restands and certain Interactables that was unintentional. However the one seemingly hit the hardest by this change is Dr. Fate, who can no longer combo off of his throw midscreen with his Traited ankhs, though he can still combo off of Final Judgment and Final Punishment in the corner as intended.

Brainac’s Beta Strike will now be destroyed if it is out after a Throw Escape, but the Collector Of Worlds can still combo off of drone calls with some tight execution. You can see the full video below and read the full list of patch changes here.

What do you think of these changes? Do you appreciate NetherRealm’s more conservative approach to patching as we head into Evo? Let us know in the comments.

Evo 2017 reminder — no bags or backpacks allowed into Sunday finals

Evo is finally upon us this weekend, at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. With this venue, however, comes an interesting new rule for attendees.

This Sunday, during day three of Evo 2017, no bags will be allowed inside the venue:

This decision comes not from the Evo staff, but rather is a general Mandalay Events Center rule. Take note however that the small personal bags and purses measuring less than 12″ x 12″ x 6″ are exempt from this rule, and will be allowed in the arena. Other things that are not allowed are items such as outside food, cameras with interchangeable lenses, pets, fireworks, and more. You can check all of these out in the infographic from the official Mandalay Bay homepage below.

If you aren’t able to make it down to Mandalay Bay, don’t worry as Street Fighter V finals will be broadcast live on ESPN2, similar to last year.

Episode 2 of Red Bull eSports’ “Mind Games” covers Snake Eyez vs. Fuudo and Snake Eyez vs. his controller

Red Bull eSports continues its documentary series on the life of Darryl “Snake Eyez” Lewis, and his performance during Final Round 20. In today’s episode, he faces his strongest opponents yet.

Snake Eyez has two antagonists in this story: the most obvious is his opponent, Keita “Fuudo” Ai. It’s his second opponent, however, that sends Snake Eyez reeling: his malfunctioning controller. Zangief ends up frozen in a crouching position, and Snake Eyez ends up losing to Fuudo through no fault of his own. This episode is the narration of Snake Eyez’s mental state in that horrific moment, and what he tries to do to bounce back.

Become the King of Evil with Izaw’s “Art of Ganondorf” tutorial for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

Continuing his “Art of” series, Izaw has set his sights on Ganondorf as the subject for his latest tutorial. While the King of Evil is currently trapped in the depths of bottom tier, this guide should help players make the most out of Ganon’s hard-hitting moveset.

Despite being the slowest character in the game and having one of the most linear recoveries, Ganondorf has some fantastic edge-guarding tools and his Flame Choke tech-chasing can be devastating if you get a read on your opponent. While his disadvantage state is crippling, not respecting Ganondorf’s tools will sow the seeds of your demise.

Playing Ganon well is all about cornering the opponent and making them afraid to push a button. He only needs two good reads to take a stock, so never underestimate this malevolent warlock.

Majorboy boxes his way to Master Rank with Ed in XusesGB’s latest Street Fighter V compilation

Since his initial release alongside the new Capcom Fighters Network and the Season 2.5 balance patch at the end of May, Street Fighter V‘s newest character, Ed, hasn’t proven to be that popular at higher levels of play. However, that hasn’t stopped PRIZM-NANA, a.k.a. Majorboy, from keeping his gloves sharp. Though he began Season 2 with Ibuki, he has become the first player to reach Master Rank with “The Young Commander.”

XusesGB’s latest compilation shows off a brief highlight reel displaying great usage of Ed’s V-Skill to reel in foes for continued pressure, as well as consistent pianos from crouching Medium Kick and some solid Psycho Flicker corner pressure. Things then transition into a FT2 set against Red Bull|Bonchan’s Nash that’s quite the back-and-forth showdown. You can see the full montage, and find out who emerged victorious, below.
