Core-A Gaming’s latest video voices concerns in the struggle of developing for the spectator

One of the most heated conversations you can have in the FGC right now is about the direction of Street Fighter V’s developing meta. This game is simultaneously the biggest juggernaut for fighting games in esports, and most controversial on a technical level. The reasons for this are varied, and the subject of Core-A Gaming’s latest analysis video.

Core-A Gaming continues to be one of the FGC’s most articulate critical voices. This examination clearly lays out the divide between luck and skill, and how SFV’s development seems unclear where between these two extremes Capcom is trying to place the game’s ecosystem. That said, I am surprised he missed the opportunity to correlate Ryu’s lost execution with his lost tier placement.

After watching the video: What do you think? Is it possible to reduce the skill gap and still have a deep, intellectual game? Or, more cynically: Do you think Capcom’s intentions all along have been to get the spectators first, then subtly change the game over time for competitive players?

Injustice 2 weekend roundup: Stylish Darkseid combos, Bane and Swamp Thing tick throws, Harley Quinn tricks and more

As Injustice 2’s first ever major is going on at Combo Breaker, here is this weekend’s tech roundup to help prepare you for the next big event. Whether you’re a grappler, a zoner or the tyrannical ruler of Apokolips, there should be something for you in this information compilation.

We’ll start off with some stylish combos from the flashy combo master desk. Focusing on Wonder Woman and Darkseid, some of these sequences look super cool but incredibly impractical. One of the combos has Darkseid using four teleports in a single combo. That’s just showing off.

Speaking of Darkseid, VesperArcade has got a beginner combo guide for those trying to learn the master of Parademons. In fact, he’s got beginner combo guides for Wonder Woman and Harley Quinn as well.

For more Harley Quinn tech, rooflemonger has got you covered with more combos and general tips and tricks. He’s also put some time in Injustice 2’s grapplers, Bane and Swamp Thing, creating several videos on how to use these burly brawlers.

To cap this all off, Cody Dickson has got combo videos for the hotheaded matter manipulator Firestorm, as well as Batman’s luchador rival Bane.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite will be playable at both E3 and CEO 2017

I think all you Marvel heads have another reason to sign up for CEO. Not only will Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite be playable on the E3 show floor, but it will also be available to play the weekend after E3 at CEO 2017. Attendees will be available to play MvC:I all weekend, but there won’t be any scheduled side tournaments during the event.

The next question you’ll no doubt be asking yourself is who will be playable during this build? I imagine we’re going to get some additional character announcements during Sony’s E3 press conferences on Monday June 12th, so expect to see those fighters in both the E3 and CEO builds of the game. Fingers crossed for Gene, Asura and Dante.

If this announcement has just tipped you over the edge for attending CEO, registration remains open until June 4th. We’ll no doubt see some major tech discoveries and information coming from on-site play tests, so be prepared to hear tons of MvC:I news from both CEO and E3.

Bonchan is “The Last Nash” in Street Fighter V Season 2; Now hear his fan-made anthem

Red Bull’s Bonchan has stuck with Nash despite the Season 2 nerfs–and the nobility of his stuggle may be finally paying off…

Back in season 1 there were so many of them
Luffy, NuckleDu, and Joe, to name a few
Infiltration winning everything in sight
But then season 2 came with changes all over and Nash got so nerfed that he’s no longer good

No more cheap wins backdashing all over
V-Trigger was OP but now has been broken
A blocked medium Scythe can cost you a round now
The mighty nerf bat from Capcom did hit ya

And all people say is that Nash now sucks balls
That Guile is the guy to throw Booms all around
Be smart and pick Balrog or Urien as main
If you stick with Nash then don’t bother complain

But at the NorCal Regionals
There was a Japanese that dared to see fit to use him
He was there is a sea of big top tiers
And no one thought he would make so far but Bonchan did

When there’s no Sagat
And Ryu didn’t take him far
Then maybe Nash ain’t so sub-par
At least for Bonchan

Say what you want but Nash isn’t dead
All it takes is a little skill
And if you come back on board the Nash train
He might win Evo again

Wavedash Games answer fan questions in a special Q&A video

To answer some burning fan questions, Wavedash Games have dipped into the mailbag for their latest video. Picking out some of the most commonly asked queries from the platform fighter community, this Q&A hopes to clarify some things about this (still unnamed!) platform fighter.

We should finally see some footage of the game this summer, with Wavedash hoping to launch a closed beta in the fall of this year. With it currently scheduled to launch in early 2018, fans should get a decent amount of time to play with the game ahead of its release. As it is a free-to-play game, the project is planned to have various cosmetic items that characters can equip, including new taunts and respects that players can use in a battle.

As the game is going to launch on PC, it will launch with digital controls as opposed to the analog controls seen in something like Super Smash Bros. Melee. This means players will be able to play with Xbox, PS4 and Gamecube controllers, alongside keyboard and mouse support. Yes, that does mean both the Smash Box and the B0XX will be legal straight out of the gate with this platform fighter.

Wavedash answer more questions like their approach to balance changes in the video, so make sure to watch the whole thing. The studio are planning to reveal new character Raymer next week, so stay tuned for more info very soon.

New non-TAC infinite possibly found for Trish in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3

For the most part, when an infinite combo is found in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, it usually has to do with the game’s Team Aerial Combo. However, occasionally, players will find a way to do an infinite combo outside of TACs. Now, a possibly non-TAC infinite may have just been found for Trish.

The infinite in question revolves around her “round trip” move that sends her sword spinning all over the stage and back to her. The move itself is one of a few moves that are exempt from the hitstun scaling that’s meant to stop infinites.

Usually, the round trip stops when the sword returns to Trish. However, Finisherofwar has figured out that a good enough player can keep jumping and dashing around in a way that keeps the spinning round trip sword out in the open, hitting her opponent. You can see the concept for this demonstrated in the video below.

As you can see in the video, the combo only stops when the sword ends up touching Trish. This of course means that actually keeping the combo going can be quite difficult and the optimal pattern to do has yet to be finalized.

Skullgirls developers offer apology & update on why Skullgirls: 2nd Encore’s physical release is still delayed

The physical copy of Skullgirls: 2nd Encore by Limited Run Games has been held up once, again doe to demands from Lab Zero Games’ international partners. According to the update posted on Skullgirls.com, the delays have been caused by bug fixes and tests that that were made a prerequisite to the game’s production by their overseas affiliates.

Though these improvements were initially thought to be worth it to ensure the quality of the final product, the further tests ended up being more time-consuming than expected, and the monetary costs have caused Lab Zero to have to negotiate with their partners to come up with a revised final release plan.

Here is the apology and explanation posted on the official Skullgirls Facebook page:

Hey, everyone. Here’s an update on the Limited Run Games physical version of Skullgirls.
We want to apologize for the extended silence regarding the LRG release of Skullgirls. We know it’s been frustrating for everyone, and we’re extremely sorry that things got to this point.
Below is a link to a full update, but the short version is that we had to do even more bug fixing and testing to appease an international partner, and all releases need to be synced for online compatibility.
We finally negotiated an end to the delays, but also worked on fixing the code so that international versions no longer had to be in lockstep with one another.
The final PS4 patch is out today (5/25), and the final PS Vita patch should be hitting shortly. Then the physical version will at last go into production.

The comments made on the post don’t seem to indicate any widespread backlash from fans–only messages of support, understanding, and appreciation for any update at all. This morale is unsurprising, as fan support has been the lifeblood of the Skullgirls community, which is also evident in the 10,000+ pre-orders for this edition of Skullgirls: 2nd Encore back when it was first made available for a very limited time.

You can read the detailed update from Skullgirls.com here.
