Namco announces bug fix patch in development for SoulCalibur VI to address Meterless CE, Balance Changes, and more

It’s no secret that there have been a few unintended bugs crop up in SoulCalibur VI. The most well known of these is Voldo’s free CE/SC access from back-turned CR stance, which is eerily similar to a bug Tekken 7′s Eliza had in Season 1. And just like Eliza, Namco is looking to squash it before it gets out of hand:

Though no date was revealed for the patch, it is worth remembering that the turnaround time for the similar Eliza glitch was remarkably fast. It’ll be interesting to see how quickly Project Soul can complete their intended patch, by comparison.

New gameplay footage shows off 2B’s lasers, custom items, and more in SoulCalibur VI

Namco just concluded a new preview live-stream with Platinum Games to show about 20 minutes of new footage of SoulCalibur VI’s newest guest character, NieR: Automata’s 2B!

2B’s gameplay comes equipped with long strings, full screen lasers (with a small visual cue that looks like will allow them to be stepable on reaction… maybe?), and a 2nd self-destruct CE. Sadly, it was done on a low-health character, so exactly how much damage this alternate CE does is currently unknown. Also worth noting is the fact that, much like how Tekken 7‘s guest characters had altered jumps, it seems like 2B will have a uniquely higher jumper arc.

There’s also a small exhibition between Motohiro Okubo and Yoko Taro where we get to see 2B’s Soul Charge mode here (performed by a Taro CaS, no less!) which seems to have even longer attack strings and break attack projectiles.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, 2B will be the first character in the SoulCalibur VI series to be customizeable.  The 2B DLC pack (free for those with the game’s Season Pass) includes NieR: Automata-themed background music and stage, 2B-themed extra parts and stickers, and additional weapons.

Sadly, there is still not set date for 2B’s release. SCVI producer Motohiro Okubo mentioned they were still fine tuning the character — but considering how far along they seem to be in her creation, it looks like her release can’t be that far off.

A-cho arcade in Osaka, Japan has been known as a hotbed for retro fighting games for a long time. If there’s an arcade board for it, odds are that it will be found in this mecca for retro fighters. Street Fighter EX2 is no exception, as the game receives frequent play at the establishment.

While Fighting EX Layer has proven to be a worthy successor to this late ’90s title, watching these videos show how much the mechanics of the new title differ. While you may see some noticeable changes – -the custom combo Excel system and the lack of back rolling on knockdown — many things, including loose juggles and cancelling supers into supers, remain the same.

See how Anna has improved in her transition to Tekken 7

Anna Williams is in the running for one of the most-polarized characters in Tekken 7. This offensive-minded stance character might have gigantic frame traps and powerful, unseeable lows, but her punishment game easily ranks among the worst in the game — there’s even some slow, snake edge-style lows that she can’t launch punish, since her fastest WS launcher is i18!

That means that if you choose to play Anna, you have to approach her in a way wholly different from the rest of the cast. If you’re interested in the DLC Willaims sister and don’t know where to start, this character breakdown from That Blasted Salami should help you get started with this unique, atypical Tekken character.

Learn how to add Active Change to your arsenal in BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle

While the execution barrier of Arc System Works’ BlazBlue series was lowered significantly upon the release of their high-octane title BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle, that doesn’t mean that the layers of depth have gone away. The tag system has certainly provided a large amount of complexity, due to the myriad ways to utilize it in battle.

Active Change has been one mechanic that has been daunting to new players of the title, with it not only being useful to add a layer of mind games to assist calls, but also to extend combos by switching characters, allowing for your team’s synergy to truly shine. This short video guide from Zankoku shows exactly how to gradually incorporate the mechanic into your gameplay.

TrueUnderDawg brings stability to the mentally-unstable Tira in this guide for SoulCalibur VI

Tira has often been one of the most difficult characters to master in the Soul series. With her being designed around two stances — Jolly and Gloomy — her mental instability makes her play also very unstable. This is further complicated by the fact that Tira will randomly start out in one stance, and can actually be knocked into a different stance by your opponent.

TrueUnderDawg aims to bring some stability to your Tira play with this tutorial. While starting on universal moves shared by both stances, he delves into the myriad ways to switch into a different stance, while going into stance-specific buttons and combos that make things easier to cope with while using her.

What will tip the scales? Mad Ice King analyses Robin’s known changes in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Many have been quick to assume that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is nothing more than an “expanded port” of Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U. Yes, the reused assets and similar play-styles do point to this conclusion, but enough has been found thus far to truly show the differences between the two games. What really matters now is character adjustments.

Most of the changes to characters are uncertain so far — all we have to go off of is promotional material and demo booth footage, reducing what can be found to “accidental” discoveries. The full game will release in about a month, which will open the floodgates to frame data, move properties, and visual details… but despite this, theory videos and early impressions are already surfacing the internet. Below is Mad Ice King’s analysis of Robin’s changes, based off of the content that is available so far — if you’re looking to tip the scales on December 7th, it couldn’t hurt to prepare a little bit.
