Learn Street Fighter V from Scratch with This Tutorial Video from Infiltration

Have you not started learning Street Fighter V yet, but are tempted to try to topple your local scene? Are you a newer player that continually loses and need a quick primer to get better? How would you like for all of this to be taught by one of the world’s premier players?

Then you are in luck today. Razer|Infiltration–the reigning Evo champion for Street Fighter V–recently sat down with Core-A Gaming to film a tutorial series on how to play Street Fighter V. Starting off with a guide for beginners, Infiltration discusses basic movements, inputs, combos, links, cancels, as well as anti-fireball and anti-air strategies. While the tutorial is geared toward players coming from a King of Fighters or Tekken background, it’s still useful for everyone, and also offers a little bit of insight into what Infiltration thinks about while he’s playing.

Tafokints Talks with D1 about Super Smash Bros. for Wii U’s Ruleset Chages, & Civil War

The sudden changes in the Super Smash Bros. for Wii U ruleset came as quite a shock to a lot of players in the community. While the ruleset typically stays in flux throughout the life span of a Smash title, this was one of the more dramatic changes to date.

Tafokints sat down with D1 recently to discuss these changes. They talk about the ruling to ban Duck Hunt stage–a stage that, on average, added a minute and a half to every set it was used in. They also talked about the decision to reverse the ruling on the ban of Lylat Cruise, stating that there needed to be more research done on it. They also discuss the coaching rule–which allows players a one-time coaching per set, for 30 seconds–stating that the loss of time was mitigated due to the ban of Duck Hunt.

After talking about the rule changes, they look forward to Civil War. There has been a decent amount of internet beef stewing over the event, which they cover in detail.

LINE Corporation Teams Up with Autumn Games to Distribute Mobile Skullgirls Game Worldwide

Some of you may remember the mobile Skullgirls game that was announced in July of last year. The folks at Hidden Variable have been hard at work building their game up, with the publisher Autumn Games working to make the game a commercial success. Their latest move forward on this front has been a partnership with LINE Corporation, a company that boasts over 220 million users worldwide.

This is great news, as it means there will be more players who have the chance to get introduced to both Skullgirls and the concept of fighting games. The increase in player base may mean an increase in profit, which could bode well for a sequel to the revolutionary indie fighter–though no solid official word has been given on the possibility.

The game has developed a great deal since its announcement last year, with both new mechanics and updated visuals.

Alex Jebailey Talks to theScore about the Importance of Investment in the FGC

Alex Jebailey is a trendsetter within the Fighting Game Community. Having a history of running successful events with his CEO brand of tournaments–as well as working for Dreamhack–he has made quite the name for himself.

Earlier in the month, Jebailey was invited to speak at the Tampa Bay Business Journal’s 2017 Business of Sports event. He has since talked to theScore about the experience. He talked about the importance of sponsorship within the FGC, as well as the low risk factor in companies getting involved. “The FGC is a pretty cheap space compared to other esports,” he stated. “They could give me 100 grand and I could run a successful event. To them, 100 grand is just another day of their budgeting.”

He further discussed sports companies’ decisions to get involved, stating, “Obviously it is about the money to any business, that’s how they work… A lot of them were just inspired by how fast it’s growing, and wondering where do they come in.”

Tune In to Some Unique Kum Haehyun Combos from a New Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- Video

A newcomer to Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-, Kum Haehyun feels very different from the rest of the cast. Most readily compare him to a Street Fighter character, as he has difficult links and generally shorter combos. Good Haehyuns distinguish themselves by aptly “tuning” their projectiles to set up dangerous situations for the opponent. While he’s far from popular in competitive Guilty Gear, that doesn’t mean his combo potential is sub-par.

There are creative uses of Kum’s Dust attack, impractical-but-hilarious combo starters that can result from trades or from a high RISK bar, and intense 22-hit sequences that can deliver the minimum damage to finish off Potemkin. Even if that’s hard to come by in a real match, maybe at least some of those Instant Kill confirms can work their way in for some memorable matches. Still, there’s plenty of damaging ones, and some showing off with double Overdrives.

Check out the full video below to get inspired to play the Korean character–and don’t forget about this must-see Jam combo video, covered previously.

Will Capcom’s Public Relations Improve? VesperArcade Thinks It Can Get Better

Capcom has notably stated recently that they will be striving to improve their relations with fans of Street Fighter V, regarding updates. However, we can’t help but harken back to last year when they said the same thing, as well as Ono’s recent hesitance to say anything at all. This makes it difficult to establish trust with the community.

However, VesperArcade sees a silver lining to this announcement. In this video, he discusses how their lack of information, when combined with all the promises of updates and being in the midst of Street Fighter’s 30th Anniversary, means that Capcom is in a good position to bring a bevy of new announcements and changes into Street Fighter V and patch up the ill will felt by the community. There’s no guarantee of improvement, but it is possible–check out the video below to see if you agree with VesperArcade’s assessment.

“There’s No Way That Would Satisfy Everybody”– Ed Boon Talks about a Street Fighter/Mortal Kombat Crossover

Since the early days of competitive fighting games, there has been a buzz and clamor for two of the largest names in fighting games to clash–or should I say klash? With Street Fighter having crossed over with various other intellectual properties, people have always wondered when–and if–Mortal Kombat would join the list of crossover titles with Capcom’s flagship title.

According to NetherRealm Studios head Ed Boon–in an interview with IGN–it’s something he would consider if approached by Capcom, but doesn’t view as likely. He cites the differences in mechanics between the two titles as a reason, stating: “There’s different pacing, there’s different fundamentals with both of them.” He also said, “There’s part of me that’s like, ‘That would be such a cool dream,’ and then there’s another part of me that goes, ‘There’s no way that would satisfy everybody.’”

Catch Top Japanese BlazBlue: Central Fiction Players in Japan E-Sports League Footage with Fenrich

One of the most entertaining players to watch is Fenrich, and his Jin Kisaragi. It never gets old to see nearly flawless combos, incredible Burst reads, and his infamous Overdrive combo finishes that make you think, “Is he really going to kill them now?!” The Japan E-Sports League is a great place to catch some top-tier players duke it out in BlazBlue: Central Fiction.

In the first clip above, Fenrich faces Gackt’s Hakumen in a first-to-five. Gackt pulls off a ton of impressive counterplays to get Fenrich in a quick 2-0 lead. But as one could predict, Jin starts to adjust and starts netting some victories, pulling ahead to a 3-2. It’s definitely worth it to watch how Fenrich gets around Hakumen’s Drive ability, and Gackt’s frequent usage of the Yukikaze super.

The next clip has Fenrich facing Souji’s Arakune. As competitive players realize, Arakune can’t be taken lightly in this edition of BlazBlue. Jin’s excellent toolset of anti-airs, pressure resets, and even his projectile help in this match up, but he still has to chase Arakune and play around the Curse meter, which is easier than ever to fill, particularly thanks to Overdrive and Active Flow. Souji takes a dominant match early on, but Fenrich starts to turn things around by catching onto his movement, and doing highly-damaging confirms.
