Strange Pokkén Glitch Allows Charizard & Gardevoir to Instant Air Recover Braixen’s Air Fireball on Hit

Pokkén player Shadowcat recently discovered a strange bug for Pokkén Tournament that may negatively impact one of the game’s current top tiers. Braixen’s j.Y, a screen-munching series of air fireballs, is one of the game’s more notorious zoning tools. However, for one reason or another, Charizard and Gardevoir can take a hit from it, then cancel the air recovery into air actions. This can actually have a decent impact on these matches, considering both characters have fairly strong air options.

It’s currently unknown if the glitch exists outside of the console version. Since Braixen’s j.Y is already being nerfed with longer landing recovery in 1.5, it would be pretty interesting to see if one of these characters could intentionally take a hit only to punish Braixen’s landing lag. In fact, if the move is still bugged in 1.5’s release, it’s possible some of the new console-only characters can take advantage of this, too.

Dan Salvato Announces Final Version of 20XX Tournament Edition

Acting as the final version for the fabled Super Smash Bros. Melee mod, Dan Salvato has released a trailer which details all the additions and changes coming in 20XX Tournament Edition v.2c. Mainly focusing on bug fixes, this version hopes to stabilize this extensive competitive suite for Melee and make it rock-solid for use in tournaments.

Version 2.c adds widescreen support, by emulating the offscreen damage that you’d experience when playing in the standard 4:3 format. While it probably won’t be used for actual matches, widescreen support is fantastic for content creators–as players can save a 4:3 replay, then watch it in 16:9. These replays can then be uploaded to PC in true 1080p, making match analyses or montages even easier. An autosave feature has also been added to replays, so TOs can ensure that every match gets saved to be uploaded at a later date.

The beta of 20XX Tournament Edition v.2c is available now, with the general release coming on March 6th. You can buy special 20XXTE memory cards from the Smash Summit shop until March 5th, but getting 20XXTE is dead simple. All you need to do is simply copy the 20XXTE date off someone’s memory card and bang, you have it on your Melee setup. The amount of work that has gone into this competitive edition of Melee is amazing, so huge thanks to Dan Salvato for creating 20XXTE.

News on the PAL version of 20XXTE should be coming soon so keep an eye out for details, fellow European Smashers. You can read the full changelog for 20XXTE v.2c right here.

Nature Will Rise Against You as Swamp Thing Joins Injustice 2

Rising from the mire to protect his habitat, Swamp Thing has joined the Injustice 2 roster. Using plant life and clones of himself, Swamp Thing commands nature to fight for him in order to defeat his enemies. Great at mid range, Swamp Thing excels at grabbing opponents out of the sky with twisting vines, then smacking them into the ground with tons of force. These command grabs remind me a hell of a lot of Kan-Ra’s bandage throws from Killer Instinct, as Swamp Thing flings his opponents through the air. He can sprout trees out of his back to stop any opponents trying to jump in on him, and can summon logs to kick towards incoming enemies.

Swamp Thing takes some elements from Noob Saibot too, summoning clones to lay the smack down on anyone that tries to meddle with nature. His super is especially brutal, dragging his opponents into the depths of the earth and beating the ever-loving tar out of them with giant fists of plant matter. He can even disappear into the swamp, with his crouch having the bottom half of his body submerged within water.

Swamp Thing also comes with a new stage, with heroes and villains battling it out in the bayou that the big green guardian protects. The huge alligator hanging in the background is a great touch and with NetherRealm’s love of Easter eggs, I’d love to see Reptile occasionally sneaking around the swamp in the background.

Northwest Majors IX Announced for April 7th-9th, Reveals Game List and Early Bird Registration

Northwest Majors likes to call itself the “Pacific Northwest’s Premier Tournament,” and considering how well last year went, it’s easy to see why! The airdasher-dominated major is returning with its ninth installment at Highline College in Seattle. NWM’s announcement is mixed with both standard big name games and hints at some surprise events.

In the followup tweet, they couldn’t help but tease hashtags for Melty Blood, Vampire Savior, Mortal Kombat XL, and a “High Roller Mystery” event.

Early bird registration for the event opened at midnight on the 13th, and will only remain open for 48 hours. You can find more details for the event here. You can see last year’s results here.

Unleash! Ha “Do” Ken: Ultra Street Fighter II Will Have a First-Person Mode

In the original reveal of Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers for Nintendo Switch, the footage snuck in a brief moment of first-person gameplay. It was initially unclear if that snippet was directly related to USFII, or was instead a hint of something else down the road in Street Fighter’s 30th anniversary year. Based on this leaked image of USFII’s package art, it appears that it was indeed a peek at a Switch-exclusive first-person mode, called “Unleash! Ha-Do-Ken.” (波Do拳 instead of the iconic move’s name 波動拳, preceded by “release” or “fire.”)

As little as we have to go on here, it suggests the mode is (as was speculated) a mini-game of sorts in which we battle Shadaloo soldiers, set apart from the main USFII title–possibly more like a rail-shooter than a fighting game? Also notable as indicated–presuming this box art is genuine–are the inclusion of a Street Fighter art gallery, and that the title is running on MT Framework in some capacity.

Check out the official reveal trailer for Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers here, or read Corey “Missing Person” Lanier’s concerns about how the game will stack up to its legacy in his editorial here. While it may not prove to be a significant competitive title, it looks like USFII will still offer some interesting content to Street Fighter fans.

Learn Nash’s New Setups from Sonic Scythe in Street Fighter V Season 2 in this Tutorial

Nash is the character Capcom seemed to take the biggest slice out of in Street Fighter V Season 2. Just because they did so, doesn’t mean he can’t cut through his competition.

While a decent amount of his setups out of Sonic Scythe still work, he does have some new ones that are extremely important to continuing to be competitive with the character. NurseLee goes over all of his options from Light, Medium, and Heavy Scythe and explains why the meaties work, along with their advantages and disadvantages.
