Famitsu Leak Reveals a Few Answers, Details on Baiken, and Balance Changes in Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2

The recent announcement about Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2, an upcoming update to -REVELATOR-, has the fans bristling with anticipation for new story content, rebalancing of the cast, and characters Baiken and Answer. A few details about REV 2 escaped from under the lid as a rewrite of a Famitsu article page surfaced on the internet before the magazine’s next publication.

In line with the Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 announcement, the arcade version is slated for Spring 2017. The console releases aren’t nailed yet, but as we know, PlayStation 3 and Steam will only have digital upgrades, while PS4 users can get a standalone physical copy (but also a digital upgrade). Reportedly, REV 2 will be priced at 2,000 yen to jump from -REVELATOR- (approximately $20).

The Story Mode content is supposed to be fairly extensive, though not quite as long as -REVELATOR-‘s cinematic narrative. There are no brand new modes, but Network Mode will get a performance tune-up. Some characters are slated to receive new moves, like Ramlethal, while Axl and Faust get some reworks to their toolset. There will be more randomness to Faust’s items–his bomb will have a chance to explode into fireworks. Axl’s Haitaka (Sparrowhawk) Stance will be significantly changed. Potemkin’s crouching hurtbox is lowered, and his crouching looks shorter as well.

As for Answer, the Business Ninja, there’s a few details on his gameplay flow. He throws around scrolls and business cards. He then utilizes them for fast pressure, either teleporting to the business cards or launching shadow clones from them. Scrolls allow some special moves. When it comes to the Lone Samurai Baiken, it’s a little harder to grasp her changes–the translation says that overall, she’s much more simplified in comparison to her past versions. The only guard cancel move she has is called Azami, used anytime while blocking on the ground and in the air. It sounds like after using Azami, she may be able to ad-lib and go into her regular special moves.

Keep in mind that this early leak may not be entirely accurate, or completely disproved. While we’re all hungry for details about Guilty Gear, there’s sure to be official information and hopefully footage from Famitsu and the upcoming loketests soon. The loketests start on January 20th.

With Genesis 4 Around the Corner, Last Stock Legends Chronicles the Rivalry Between Armada and Mang0

When it comes to Super Smash Bros Melee, there are few rivalries more legendary than that between Alliance’s Adam “Armada” Lindgren and Cloud 9’s Joseph “Mang0” Marquez–born at Genesis 1, where Armada made his American debut. It was the Swedish Sniper who emerged victorious from that first battle, but there were many more to come, including the Grand Finals at that same tournament, where Mang0, fueled by the crowd, fought his way from behind to take the tournament.

The two have clashed again countless times, but it is Genesis that has arguably defined their rivalry. Grand Finals of Genesis 1, 2 and 3 have been legendary battles between the pair and, for the first time, Last Stock Legends have given us the opportunity to experience the rivalry firsthand.

In this episode we hear the entire rivalry from the men themselves. The whole saga is covered, from the first battles at Genesis 1 to their meeting at Genesis 3, in which Armada broke the 1-1 tie they had found themselves in.

It’s a deeply fascinating look at Melee history that we are living through; Armada and Mang0 are two of the finest players to pick up a pad, and their rivalry is one of the intense and competitive in the history of the game. And with Genesis 4 just a few short days away, what better time could there be to learn why, if we see Mang0 and Armada in Grand Finals once again, it will be one of the most fiercely fought battles you will ever see.

Panda Global Signs Two Super Smash Bros. Players in Time for Genesis 4

Just on the cusp of Genesis 4, Panda Global has made the move to sign two more players within the Super Smash Bros. community, and both on very opposite ends of the spectrum.

Rich Brown is one of the signings, who is a strong player in both Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. With Brawl oft neglected at tournaments these days, Brown will be playing Super Smash Bros. for Wii U at Genesis 4.

The more amazing signing was SuPeRbOoMfAn. He is a top player in the original Super Smash Bros. on Nintendo 64, and will be focused solely on that at Genesis. While it could be perplexing that they are signing someone focused on the original title, there is a strong revival of that game currently happening, so it should be quite interesting to see the direction they take with their signings from herein.

Vagabond’s Akuma Takes on Smug, Calipower, and More in These Street Fighter V Ranked Match Highlights

Texas’ own Anas “Vagabond” Khan, now sponsored by Noble Gaming, had a breakout year in 2016 with his aggressive Necalli play in Street Fighter V–with high placings in several stacked tournaments, including Texas Showdown (4th place) and the Red Bull Battlegrounds Last Chance Qualifier (5th place). So in a move that perhaps goes back to his SFIV roots when he used to play Evil Ryu, Vagabond has started playing Akuma, and from the looks of this Ranked Match highlight video by YouTube user Vice, he seems to have picked things up quickly with the Master of the Fist.

Vagabond tests his new character against several highly-ranked opponents such as PIE|Smug and Alex “Calipower” Valle among others. With already a basic, but good understanding of the neutral game with Akuma, Vagabond shows off what he has learned so far with simple but highly optimal combos in both V-Trigger and non-V-Trigger mode, with post-combo setups to continue the offense. This video is a highly entertaining and informative watch of the high damage potential and pressure Akuma is capable of. There is a great Raging Demon punish at the end as well!

Street Fighter V Online Glitch Temporarily Knocks Players Back to Rookie Rank

As previously reported, Street Fighter V’s servers are down for maintenance today. While no details on what exactly this maintenance period will be addressing have been dropped, it’s likely meant to–at the very least–fix a number of glitches with the current system.

One such glitch is this one demonstrated in a video by Ditch Pickler. In the video below, he demonstrates how, after a loss in Ranked, he was suddenly put back in Rookie rank (with zero League Points), down from Super Gold, despite only losing 1 League Point. Happily, this is only temporary–as the rank fixes itself in later matches. There are thankfully no reports of this LP “loss” being permanent.

Why this happens is currently unknown. However, it’s possible that the temporary rank down was due to a connection issue with the server, and the game being unable to fetch the player’s correct rank in time. [I have personally experienced this glitch myself, as well. – Editor]

King of Fighters XIV Getting Two New DLC Costumes This Month

SNK has been quick to support The King of Fighters XIV with post-launch content, and that doesn’t look to change this year. However, it seems there has been some confusion on what that downloadable content will be, with some Chinese sites even reporting that the game would be getting a new character.

That confusion has now been cleared up, thanks to the efforts of Gatoray and MOJO82. Some Chinese news outlets, had mistranslated a quote from KoFXIV producer Yasuyuki Oda during a press conference, claiming that he had confirmed a new character. In reality, Oda had mentioned that KoFXIV would be getting 2 new downloadable costumes later this month.

The costumes in particular are supposed to be for new protagonist Shun’ei, and Samurai Shodown character Nakoruru. The selection of these two characters is interesting, as it means that, unlike with Kyo or Athena, the new costumes won’t be callbacks to earlier games (XIV is Shun’ei’s first appearance, and Nakoruru is in her traditional look from previous games).

These costumes are expected to drop sometime near the end of this month. Whether or not they’re for China only–or if they’ll be out for the rest of the world–is as of yet unknown.

Hero? Villain? Injustice 2’s Story Trailer Suggests That The Distinction Is Not So Clear

One of the defining aspects of the first Injustice was how fascinating the story telling was. There was a comprehensive campaign that set the groundwork for a tale that was built upon by the excellent comic books that continued until 2016. Following up on such a great narrative was always going to be a challenge, but the first glimpses seem to be promising.

Following up from the events of Injustice 1, Injustice 2’s story mode sees Batman, despite his triumph in defeating Superman, unable to rest on his laurels. There’s all sorts of challenge and conflict ahead. Indeed, we see that he has perhaps lost his head as he brawls against someone unexpected.

The trailer also confirms that Darkseid, Robin, Bane, Brainiac and Poison Ivy will be making appearances, though it is only Darkseid that has been properly confirmed as playable–and as pre-order DLC. It’s likely that the others will be too, but we will have to wait for more news to confirm that. The rumors that Black Canary would be confirmed however, appear to have been fruitless.

There is also some explanation of what we can expect from Injustice 2’s story over on the PlayStation Blog:

The biggest challenge? Extending the Injustice narrative, without repeating ourselves. We knew that the game’s core conflict — Batman versus Superman — had to remain front and center. But to keep Injustice moving forward, we needed more.

Enter Brainiac.

Now, if you’ll excuse us, we need to go and watch this trailer a few dozen more times.

Get Savage with This Raspberry Combo Video for Dragonball Xenoverse 2

While not the most prominent fighting game series on the planet in the competitive scene, the Dragonball series has been a mainstay of fighting games for a long while. They are often considered casual, but fun enough to pull out to play for those crazy nights when you’re bored with more hardcore competitive play.

That doesn’t mean there isn’t the potential for interesting combos within its game mechanics. Here is a combo video for Raspberry, which shows some advanced combos that require great timing–with some being doggedly long!

Daigo Umehara’s Re-emerging Ryu Takes on EmuEmu’s Zangief in This Online Street Fighter V Set

HyperX’s Daigo Umehara experienced a bit of a character crisis at the beginning of season 2. We saw him play around with Urien, and Guile for a time. Whether this was exploring potential new mains, or practicing characters he has difficulties with in order to understand them, has yet to be fully determined.

Regardless, we now see him back with his trademark Ryu in season 2, and doing well. However, we see him running through a bit of a wall as he faces EmuEmu’s Zangief online.

Are we seeing Daigo face another matchup he struggles with? Time will tell.
