The King of Fighters ’98, World Heroes Perfect, and Waku Waku 7 Are Coming to Nintendo Switch

It looks like a new update to Street Fighter II isn’t the only classic fighting game coming to Nintendo Switch. For fans of SNK’s Neo-Geo and its myriad of fighting games, three fighters from that console’s heyday are coming to the Switch.

The King of Fighters ’98, World Heroes Perfect, and Waku Waku 7 are coming to Nintendo’s Switch as part of the expansion of Hamster Corporation’s Arcade Archives series into Nintendo console/portable hybrid.

The King of Fighters ’98 needs no introduction, being one of the best installments of the King of Fighters series. Meanwhile, World Heroes Perfect is the final title in ADK’s World Heroes series, and the best iteration of it as well. Sunsoft’s Waku Waku 7 is probably the most obscure one of the bunch, but also the most interesting, with its colorful and eclectic cast of characters who are all parodies of characters and tropes from other franchises.

In addition to these three, classic run-and-gun games Shock Troopers and Metal Slug 3 are also coming to Switch. No release dates are clear as of yet–as is still the case with most titles for Nintendo’s upcoming platform.

Poongko and Haitani Compare Strengths in This Street Fighter V Set

Team Secret’s Poongko is always the little engine that could. While he is a great player and can shock the world, he often gets inside his own head to cause his demise in major events. It also probably didn’t help that he diversified his time between Street Fighter V and Tekken 7 over last year.

However, when he faces Youdeal’s Haitani, who placed fourth at Capcom Cup, it looks like he is starting to become more poised in this game. Watch as Poongko shows his strength in Season 2 against the best Necalli on the planet currently.

SNK Is Launching a New King of Fighters Game This Summer–and It’s an MMORPG for Smartphones

“The King of Fighters World” will launch first in China, Summer 2017.

There’s a new King of Fighters game on the horizon–however, it’s not another fighting title. SNK has announced plans to launch a new massively multiplayer online role-playing game, entitled The King of Fighters World. It will apparently be free-to-play (with additional paid content), and involve exploring the KOF game world, battling and puzzle-solving through a “profound” storyline.

It will be available for both Android and iOS devices, launching first in China, with the intention of expanding worldwide later. It might not be what every SNK fan burns to fight for, but it could be interesting for those that want to take some aspect of KOF on the go. Check out the teaser trailer below.

Modder Adds Team Fortress 2 Voices to Under Night In-Birth Characters

Mods are a pretty unique area of the community. You never quite know what direction someone will take familiar content. One person could envision Street Fighter characters as Overwatch characters, while another might go a more traditional route by giving Mega Man a franchise-specific Bass makeover.

What we have here is something completely different: this person saw to creating voice mods for Under Night In-Birth characters using Team Fortress 2 voices. The below sees Hyde parroting TF2’s Scout.

He also gives the same treatment to Waldstein, giving him audio files from TF2’s Heavy, which doesn’t seem quite as far along as the previous mod, but goes equally well with the character:

VesperArcade Breaks Down Juri’s Street Fighter V Season Two Changes in These Demonstration Videos

After beginning his new series by looking at the changes made to Ryu, VesperArcade continues his character-by-character exploration of the alterations made to the original 22 cast members of Street Fighter V, by turning his attention to one of his personal favorite DLC characters (and one of mine!) the Korean Spider of S.I.N., Juri Han!

Following her release in July, she was not well-received by the community, due to the fact she seemed lacking in tools compared to the majority of the roster. Along with her significant gameplay overhaul, many considered her one of the weakest characters in the game. Vesper even put her at the very bottom of his personal Season One tier list, at C-.

However, Capcom seems to have heard the outcries from her fans, and rewarded the “Purple Smoke Of Deception” with a myriad of buffs, in an attempt to raise her stock in the title’s sophomoric Season. Her Tensenrin DP has been remapped to punches instead of kicks, preventing input overlap with her Fuharenkyakus. She has more Ryodansatsu combos, and complete projectile invincibility on the EX version, improving her damage output. Her V-Skill’s strongly improved, allowing her to reach Level 2 of Kasastsushu quicker. Vesper gave initial thoughts on the changes:

Overall, I think it’s pretty easy to say that she’s been buffed, for sure. Her combo potential is way higher now; they really buffed her V-Skill, her throws, but I think what was holding Juri back a lot in Season One was basically her play style. She’s a character that can’t do her full combos until she gets these stocks, so you have to leave yourself open, and you might lose neutral pressure or push yourself into the corner. Since they didn’t really change that, I think that stops her from being “greatly buffed.” Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that she could’ve got buffed harder, but I just don’t think that she’s on insane levels.

You can see the full video where he goes over the patch notes in detail below.

As with Ryu, Vesper also posted a second video of him taking Juri into the lab to provide a visual demonstration of all her notable buffs and new combo routes.

Vesper will continue making these videos for the 20 remaining Season One cast members, so stay tuned to his Channel!

Ruu, Tomo, and Takehara Divulge How to Combat Leo in Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-

Leo can be problematic to face in Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-. His options are unlike other characters in the game, and thus leaves players perplexed when facing him. Whereas some people would immediately call for nerfs, it’s rather time to hit the lab and learn the matchup.

Fortunately, several of Japan’s best players–Ruu, Tomo, and Takehara–have released a four-part guide on how to face and defeat Leo. The first two parts were already available in English, with translations by BloodWolF and Lord Knight respectively. Recently, part three was released in English, again translated by BloodWolF.

Daigo and Osayu Stand Toe-to-Toe in these Street Fighter V Ranked Sets

HyperX’s Daigo Umehara is the perennial warrior. Much like his patented Ryu, he is always on the hunt for strong opponents to test his mettle against, and gives each and every one a run for their money.

Osayu is one such competitor, and gives Daigo a serious battle. His Cammy is very solid, with lots of strong techniques and good mixups with the tools in his arsenal. They recently faced off in a couple of ranked sets online, and the results are matches that should leave players of both characters scribbling notes in their notepads.

Daniel Lee Breaks Down Mew2King’s 2nd Place Run Through Loser’s Bracket at UGC

Echo Fox’s Mew2King is highly regarded as one of the best Smash players of all time. Put the man into Losers Bracket, however, and it becomes increasingly difficult to bet on him. His inconsistency after dropping a set is duly noted, and he’s rarely able to win after being knocked into the losers side.

At UGC 2016, we saw a different M2K, and Daniel Lee of Yahoo! Esports goes over what was different between Mew2King’s usual Losers Bracket performance, and the one we saw at UGC–which ultimately saw him take 2nd place behind Armada after resetting the bracket. He goes over the way Mew2King was making decisions and using proper spacing and mixups to lead to his impressive run through the bracket, even besting his perennial rival Hungrybox en route to Grand Finals.

Kim1234 Talks with Logan-sama on This Week’s Jump-In Podcast

Kim1234 is back for another episode of his Jump-In podcast. Usually, this podcast features a special interview–but this time, we have a sit down with his co-host Logan-sama via the magic of Skype.

In this episode, they talk about the importance of community within the FGC, and how infectious hype can be at events. They also skew off the FGC path by talking about fellow fighting game fan and pro wrestler Kenny Omega’s recent main event at New Japan Pro Wrestling, and discuss the season 2 off-season moves.
