Street Fighter V Servers Down for Maintenance Today, in Anticipation of the New Skies of Honor Stage

As expected: new content means an SFV server shutdown day.

Those looking forward to flying high in Street Fighter V’s new Skies of Honor stage will have to wait until 4:00 PM PST, as Capcom has shut down the SFV servers for the usual maintenance window that has come to accompany the addition of such new content to the game.

Might there be some more surprises in this update, like the missing default EX1 costume colors? We’ll find out after four o’clock.

Capcom’s Yoshinori Ono Talks about Street Fighter V’s Launch Content and the Evolution of Its Scene

Last weekend saw the Capcom Pro Tour’s North American Finals at Red Bull Battle Grounds. This being such an important event, none other than Street Fighter V producer Yoshinori Ono was in attendance; Red Bull’s Anne Ellis was on hand to talks to Ono about a few things about Street Fighter V.

As part of the interview, Ono addresses Street Fighter V’s content issues. Here, Ono admits that they know that they didn’t put out a complete product, and states that the launch was a “learning experience.” That said, their team has been listening to the community and is working to add more content. “We try to progress forward and listen to the fans more, and see what they want and continue adding new modes and things to the game.” Ono states, “What that content will be, we don’t know, but we’ll continue to get feedback from the users on what they are wanting.”

Aside from this, Ellis and Ono also talk about the evolution of Street Fighter V’s competitive scene, from its days back in arcades to the big events that we have now. In particular, Ono comments how live streaming and services like Twitch have influenced the growth of the community. He states that, back in the day, it would probably have taken a decade for the scene to develop to the level where Street Fighter V’s scene is now.

Of course, that’s just part of what they talk about. You can read the rest of the article over at Red Bull.

Get closer to your revenge by adding some meaties to your gameplan.

Nash is a tricky fighter for the inexperienced, so if you’re just getting started with him, check out NurseLee’s video below: fifteen meaty setups to give you a leg up on the competition. Even experienced Nash players might find something to add to their revenge repertoire.

Relieve Both the North American and Latin American Capcom Pro Tour Finals in These Highlight Reels from Capcom Fighters

Last week was very busy for Street Fighter V fans, with the Latin America CPT Finals starting off the week and the North American CPT Finals bringing it to an explosive end. Both tournaments were filled with memorable matches, so Capcom Fighters has brought together the top five best moments from both events, in two separate highlight reels.

The Latin American finals saw Dr. Ray winning that qualifying spot from invaders outside of the region. His Vega and the Dominican Republic will be on show at Capcom Cup Finals, potentially with F3|Brolynho and Brook|Misterio joining him to represent Latin America. In the North American finals, we also saw a hometown hero defending the house from out of region players. Gaining his revenge on Tokido for knocking him into Losers in round 1 of top 16, Team Liquid’s Nuckledu proved that Canada Cup was not a fluke and claimed the trophy with the all-American hero Guile. We also saw RB’s Urien put on an absolute clinic against players like BST|Daigo Umehara, and ANBU|Punk having the performance of his life by making it all the way to Winners’ Finals against Tokido.

Check out the videos below and do comment with your favorite moments from each Regional Final. The last event in the Capcom Pro Tour before Capcom Cup, the Asia/Oceania Regional Finals, takes place in South Korea from November 17th to 19th and it will determine the final placings for Capcom Cup 2016. Expect some ferocious competition as players desperately fight for that last guaranteed spot at Capcom Cup.

Mark of the Millennium: SSFC2016 Continues with Capcom vs. SNK 2, Samurai Shodown 2 Tournaments

“Super Street Fighter Carnival 2016”, or SSFC2016, is the currently ongoing Japanese multi-month tournament series at Mikado Arcade. This event pays tribute to a variety of arcade fighting games, popular or obscure.  If you missed the action, there’s plenty of great matches to catch up on!

If you’ve been following along, you know that these titles run the gamut of “classic” to “crazy.” Given its near monolithic legacy in the FGC, most will put Capcom vs. SNK 2 in the former category. This is a game with a decade and a half of tech and passion behind it–as the matches here show.

[A timely choice, seeing as Capcom’s teaser reveal of Akuma for Street Fighter V at Red Bull Battle Grounds last night utilizes the same kanji featured by Shin Akuma in CvS2! – Editor]

But CvS2 wasn’t the only sequel to show up! SNK’s classic weapons-based fighter, Samurai Shodown 2, had its own intense tournament. Light on combos and heavy on smart poking, SS2 is a treat for anyone craving some simple and solid footsies.

You can follow the action by subscribing to Mikado’s official YouTube channel. You can even try to catch them when they livestream!

Chinese Premium Edition of The King of Fighters XIV May Be Gettting a Classic Iori Skin

A Chinese language version of The King of Fighters XIV is coming out later this month. With the country being a major market for the series, as well as the home of SNK’s new owners, Ledo Millenium, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the country is getting a special premium edition. What’s interesting however is that this version may be getting something that other regions don’t have.

Based on an image supposedly released by the game’s Chinese distributor Gamepoch, The King of Fighters XIV’s Chinese Premium Edition will come with an exclusive classic costume for Iori Yagami. The image was spotted in a KoF chat group and was shared on the web by Twitter user Tox.

The other items included in the premium edition seem to be the same one in the Premium Editions for the rest of the world: a steel book, 3-disc soundtrack, and a premium art book.

Whether or not the Classic Iori skin will be made available for purchase in other regions is as of yet unknown. However, it is likely considering that the pre-order exclusive Classic Kyo and Nightmare Geese skins were later made available for purchase.

TLTC Triumphs at the Hero to ZeRo Online Qualifier for 2GGT: ZeRo Saga

While Smash Summit 3 and Red Bull Battle Grounds were raging on the West Coast of the US, a tense Super Smash Bros. for Wii U online qualifier was raging in cyberspace. The Hero to ZeRo qualifier saw players from North America fighting it out to win that all-expenses paid trip to Las Vegas for 2GGT: ZeRo Saga in December. The top 8 was quite different to what you usually see in your typical Smash 4 bracket, with a Shulk, two Yoshis and a Mr. Game & Watch making an appearance, and a Palutena taking the whole event.

The winner, TLTC, actually started top 8 in the Losers bracket, sent there by fellow top 8 entrant Regi Shikimi’s Mr. Game and Watch in round 1 of pools. This resulted in a tough road for TLTC, fighting Burst’s Yoshi and Calculus’ Bayonetta before getting a short break with JK’s disqualification due to connection issues. After that, he had to contend with Dufaux’ Shulk before facing top ranked Villager, Aardvark in two sets of Grand Finals. Aardvark actually chose to stick to secondaries for the first two matches of Grand Finals, taking a game with his Morton before switching to R.O.B to fight off TLTC’s Palutena. After dispatching the robot, Aardvark finally pulled out Villager from his back pocket to duel with the goddess.

With the bracket reset, TLTC and Aardvark traded games, eventually reaching a game five situation where the goddess eventually won the day, rewarding TLTC with that golden ticket to Vegas. However, even though he won the grand prize, TLTC will actually be giving the flight away to a secret recipient so possibly expect one of the other top 8 contenders to be coming to 2GGT: ZeRo Saga.

RESULTS:

1. SCB|TLTC (Palutena/California)
2. Aardvark (R.O.B, Morton, Villager/California)
3. Dufaux (Shulk/Michigan)
5. Calculus(Bayonetta/Utah)
5. SF|Regi Shikimi(Mr. Game and Watch/Mexico)
5. JK (Bayonetta/Nevada) (5th due to disqualification)
7. YellowRello (Yoshi/Texas)
7. Burst (Yoshi/Ontario)
