Nanase Searches for Her Sister, and Hayate is the Son of a Legendary Swordsman: More Street Fighter EX Character Profiles from the CFN Portal

As we’ve been reporting, the CFN Portal site has been frequently uploading character profiles of the Street Fighter EX characters, courtesy of the research found in the Shadaloo Activity Reports. With the entirely of the original EX1 cast covered, it’s time to move on to the first characters that debuted in EX2, starting with the third “Sibling of Destiny,” Nanase! As always, NIN returns to provide his insight–as a “Senior Officer of Shadaloo”–to Private Nakagawa in profiling these characters.

Private Nakagawa: The younger sister of the heir of Mizukami style ancient martial arts, Hokuto. She doesn’t only use ancient martial arts, but an amazing staff that can lengthen itself.

Basic Info:

Name: Nanase
Height: 165 cm
Weight: 54 kg
Blood Type: 0
Birthday: February 19th
Country of Origin: Japan
Likes: Anmitsu, Hokuto
Dislikes: Seiza [“The classic Japanese kneeling position”]

Private Nakagawa: The true sister of Kairi. Nanase doesn’t remember her brother, and is searching for her sister Hokuto, who mysteriously disappeared. She has a merry, bright and cheerful personality. Even today, we have a comment from our Senior colleague:

NIN: The collision detection of that elastic staff proved to be quite the technical problem. I struggled with the attack direction of her Kasumioroshi, [“Misty Gust from the Mountains”] too. I liked the way in which she could pierce two opponents at once with her staff in EX3.

Next, we have the son of the legendary Orochi-slaying swordsman, Hayate!

Private Nakagawa: The young man armed with a sword who hails from Kukonochi village. His father was a legendary swordsman who rid the village of the Orochi all by himself. A swordsman is an unusual character for Street Fighter.

Basic Info:

Name: Hayate
Height: 177cm
Weight: 76kg
Blood type: B
Birthday: April 5th
Home Country: Japan
Likes: Dried persimmons
Dislikes: Evil spirits

Private Nakagawa: He makes a living getting rid of mystic calamities and evil spirits. Clad in an ominous pale wave of a bluish white hadō he continues to fight every day in order to defeat the demonic people.

NIN: During development, his “Tsumuji Kagerō-Kyoku” [“Heat Haze Vortex Climax”] was called “UFO!” Since then, it is no longer seen as only a UFO, there had been a time when we couldn’t stop laughing as the system gradually came together.

Sony to Integrate ESL Tournaments into their PlayStation 4 Tournaments Feature

With the upcoming dashboard update to the PlayStation 4 bringing a dedicated tournament app to the console, Sony has partnered with ESL to natively integrate ESL tournaments into their service. This means once players have linked their ESL account to their PSN ID, signing up and keeping track of tournaments is easier than ever.

With Mortal Kombat X having its home with the ESL, it will be one of the first games added to the tournaments system. The ESL will be holding almost daily Community Cups for Mortal Kombat X, with larger regional cups running on Sundays. These regional cups will have top 4s streamed on your region’s ESL Twitch channel, so expect stalwart Mortal Kombat commentators PND|Ketchup and Mustard hosting the European stream, for example.

With the ESL’s foray into Street Fighter V with events like King of the Hill and Brooklyn Beatdown, it is possible that it too will be integrated into the tournament app, allowing easy qualifier events to be run without the hassle of using separate apps to organize an online event.

Luminosity Gaming Grows Its Super Smash Bros. Roster by Signing Mustafa “Ice” Akcakaya

Off the back of his landmark third place placing at The Big House 6 earlier this month, Luminosity Gaming has signed Super Smash Bros. Melee player, Mustafa “Ice” Akcakaya to their fledgling roster. He joins Smash 4 player Yuta “Abadango” Kawamura as part of the team’s expansion into the world of fighting games, acting as the first Melee player to join Luminosity.

Known for his smooth movement, creative punish game and mastery of Fox tech skill, Ice is developing at a rapid rate as a player, despite having very few top level opponents to practice against in his hometown of Berlin. In a quote from CEO of Luminosity Gaming Steve Maida, he stated the team is “happy to support a rising talent like Mustafa. With that support, we fully anticipate he will polish his skills even further and cement himself as one of the best Melee players in the World.  I’m looking forward to cheering him on this weekend at Eclipse 2.”

On top of competing at Eclipse 2 in Norway this weekend, Ice is also in the running for Smash Summit 3 in November, fighting for one of the final spots at this invitational tournament. With this recent happy news and stellar performance at The Big House 6, I imagine Ice should sail over the line and make it safely to the Summit. You may see Ice at more US tournaments in the future anyway, as according to ESPN Esports, he is currently applying for an athletic visa thanks to this signing and plans to move to the USA if he is approved.

Gato Ray Showcases How Normal Moves Work vs. Crouching Characters in The King of Fighters XIV

There are a lot of things in fighting games that players will intuit, as opposed to actively thinking about; one of those things is using normal moves against crouching opponents. Whether it’s knowing if your normal will hit a crouching opponent or knowing whether it will make them stand up if they’re hit, it’s important information to have. To that end, we have here a compilation of all normal moves vs. crouching opponents and their hit effects, coming from Gato Ray.

Some of these cases of course changed with the latest patch as well, so a follow-up video was uploaded to cover all of the normals that have been changed in 1.03.

Weekend Steam Sales for Degicia Games’ Kohime Enbu and Blade Arcus from Shining: Battle Arena

Degicia Games has been pretty active about promoting their new game Koihime Enbu, adding a pot bonus to their tournament at this year’s CEOtaku and actively getting their latest fighter in front of potential players. Koihime Enbu and Blade Arcus are two of their main projects, with the latter still receiving support, despite being released in 2014.

For the weekend, both of these games are available at large discounts. Koihime Enbu is available for 50% off, making it available for a more reasonable $19.99. Blade Arcus is discounted 35%, bringing that price down to $19.49. Check out their sale trailer below.

These discounts are in addition to the stream we reported on, that was giving away copies of the game.

What’s New, Nakoruru? Take a Look at Her Post-Patch Capabilities in The King of Fighters XIV

Being one of the more talked-about characters in the game–due to some of the frustration players were feeling dealing with her–after the latest balance patch, attention was quickly drawn to the bird tamer, Nakoruru. With Nakoruru receiving some big changes in the 1.03 patch to King of Fighters XIV, Ra3bones has released a quick addendum to act as a supplement to his original Nakoruru guide, detailing the major tweaks to the character, what is now safe/unsafe, and so on.

KOF enthusiast Gato Ray also posted this video to his channel, going over exactly what it means for Mamahaha to have reduced projectile resistance.

Just prior to the patch, YouTuber laziefred uploaded a large guide detailing ways to deal with Nakoruru and her pesky bird. While elements have changed and may be easier to deal with now, this guide still has valuable information for dealing with the matchup.

Customized PC Version of Street Fighter V Bound for Japanese Arcades

One of the game’s greatest criticisms–at least, in the East–is on the way to being resolved at last. Capcom surely wants to cement Street Fighter V’s competitive future, worldwide–this is a good step toward that goal.

Frame 2:
Street Fighter II: The Definitive Soundtrack New Vinyl Pressing Available for Pre-Order

This is an awesome part of not just Street Fighter but video game music history–it’s fascinating from a technical standpoint just to compare the differences in the themes between the two arcade boards. A must for fans of Street Fighter II, and gaming music period; if vinyl isn’t your thing, I still recommend seeking it out on CD. On a similar topic, check this out, too.

Both Handheld and Stationary: The Nintendo Switch is Finally Revealed

Slightly amazing Nintendo kept as much about this contraption under wraps as they have, for this long. This console looks to be pretty much what the Wii U concept was supposed to be; it has a robust list of developers on board, so I look forward to hearing about what fighting titles–and others–will make it onto those tiny cartridges.

xiaohaiCapcom Pro Tour Player Analysis: Why Xiaohai Can’t be a Sleeper Pick Anymore

Xiaohai has been on a serious tear recently, so it’s fascinating to learn a little more about him. I knew that his Cammy play was on point, but Missing Person breaks down a whole lot more information that I’d never heard before, and makes it clear why it would be fatal to sleep on Xiaohai when he rolls into Anaheim.

m_750Sanwa Denshi Signs M’ As Their First Sponsored King of Fighters Player

It’s always exciting when someone takes the plunge into FGC sponsorship, and Sanwa Denshi is not exactly a small player. Just like Hori’s sponsorship of the likes of Sako and MadCatz’s backing of Daigo Umehara, it’s massively intriguing when a company with so much commitment to the scene puts their weight behind a single player. M’ will no doubt live up to the expectations.

persona_5Persona 4 Arena Director Kazuhisa Wada Wants to Make a Persona 5 Arena

Persona 4 Arena is one of my very favorite fighting games, and Persona 5 is probably my number one most anticipated game of next year. Persona 5 Arena? Yes please. It’s something I’d love to see, and it’s great to see an appeal to the fans to make sure it gets made. Here’s hoping the fans make enough noise and we get P5A in our lives.

SNK Launches New Line of King of Fighters T-Shirts, Will Give Them Away As Prizes at Tournaments

Here’s some interesting news for The King of Fighters fans who love collecting series merchandise. SNK has just announced a new, exclusive line of 15 King of Fighters themed t-shirts.

However, the kicker is that these t-shirts seemingly aren’t going to be for general sale. SNK has not given any word on how–or even if they will be–selling these in the future. Instead, these t-shirts will be given away as prizes at future KOF tournaments.

Whether or not this means that the shirts will only be given to the top placers at a tournament, or if they’ll be giving them out to tournament attendees through some other means is unknown. If they do the former though, wearing these shirts could be a mark of pride, showing that the wearer is good enough to place high at a King of Fighters event.

Leffen Comes Full Circle at The Big House 6 with Red Bull eSports

The Big House 5 was where Leffen began dealing with his visa issues to the United States. Without much in the way of travel, the Godkiller of Super Smash Bros. Melee spent a lot of time practicing in Sweden in solitude.

This month found his visa issues resolved, and a flurry began to make William Hjelte’s attendance of the tournament he was previous denied entry for possible. He ultimately made it, and Red Bull chronicled his return to the event. In the interview, they discuss Leffen’s return to the States, and his feelings in dealing with the fiasco he inadvertently found himself in.

Eric Jacobus Tackles Dead or Alive in His Latest “Real Life Movesets” Montage

While mainly known for his recreations of Tekken movesets, stuntman Eric Jacobus has shifted franchises and decided to try out the moves of fellow 3D fighter, Dead or Alive. For this installment, Eric has focused on the moves of Sambo practitioner and former assassin Bayman as his first foray into the world of DOA.

According to the stuntman, many of Bayman’s throws and strikes would actually be applicable and useful in real world situations, unlike the flips and Izuna drops of other characters in the Dead or Alive roster. While it may not be flashy, Bayman’s move set may actually help you out if you were stuck in a jam with some people who didn’t care if you were dead or alive.
