Sign-Ups for Europe’s Premier CPT Event at EGX 2016 Have Been Extended to September 16th

Good news for anyone still on the fence about attending Europe’s Premier event for the Capcom Pro Tour, as EGX and Unequalled Media have announced that sign-ups have been extended until September 16th. This event is taking place during EGX 2016, the UK’s biggest-ever games event, where Capcom will have its own zone for all things Street Fighter.

Entrants to this Premier must buy a three-day pass for EGX 2016, as there are no on-the-day sign-ups. The special EGX Pro Tour pass costs £35 and will give you access to the general exhibition hall, as well as the Fight Zone via a special CPT entrance. There are only 384 places available in this tournament and no more will be made available so make use of the extended sign up period and get your tickets now.

The pools stage of the EGX premier will take place over the 23-24th of September, with Friday having groups 1-16 play while Saturday has groups 17-32 play. Players will find out their pools allocation on the 19th of September and lateness will not be tolerated by the tournament organizers. If you do not arrive by the time stated over on the official CPT EGX website, you will be disqualified into Losers Bracket with no exceptions. They don’t care if you were in the queue to play Yooka Laylee; be at the Fight Zone on time so the tournament runs smoothly.

Top 64 will happen on Sunday the 25th, starting at 11am GMT with top 8 aiming for a 2:30pm start. As with all major Capcom events, the Premier will be streamed over on the official Capcom Fighter Twitch channel so tune in on the Sunday to see all the action. With big name Europeans like BX3.TP-Link|Phenom attending the event, as well as overseas heavy hitters like BST|Daigo Umehara, this Premier is set to be a big one.

Get Inspired by These New Mortal Kombat X Option Selects

We’ve talked about MKX’s Ketchup and Mustard before–a commentating duo that are leading lights in the Mortal Kombat kommunity. They’re more than just wordsmiths though, as results like fifth at Evo 2015 show.

After some insight into the upcoming Injustice 2, they’re back to digging through Mortal Kombat X and, this time, are exploring something familiar to the wider FGC: Option Selects. After a patch that removed some of the more notorious Option Selects in the game *cough* Raiden *cough*, there hasn’t been much exploration of what might remain. Now however, Ketchup and Mustard are challenging the kommunity to do a little more digging, and have kicked things off with some OS tech of their own. Check out the video below to be inspired, then it might be time to hit the lab!

Make Late Anti-Airs Whiff with Birdie’s Brief Invincibility after Jumping Short in Street Fighter V

Jumping is one of the most dangerous things a player can attempt in any Street Fighter game. Even in Street Fighter V, a careless jump in can easily by punished even just by a simple jab. At the end of the day, this fact of life is just part of the franchise’s identity.

This is why any sort of bug or glitch that can make jump-in stronger can be quite dangerous. Such is the case with Birdie, who apparently has a glitch where he momentarily becomes invulnerable after a jumping short kick. As the video from TOOL ASSISTED below demonstrates, this happens because his vulnerable hurtbox disappears after he performs the move. Used just right, this can be made to make late anti-air attacks whiff against Birdie, allowing him to get a free jump in against his opponent.

This invulnerability does not seem to be something that Capcom intentionally gave Birdie’s jumping short, so expect it to be addressed in a future patch.

ZeRo Completes His Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Tier List: High and Top Tiers Added

It was quite a while ago that Team SoloMid’s ZeRo started his own personal Super Smash Bros. for Wii U tier list–back in June, in fact–weighing in on how he felt the roster stacked up after the 1.1.6 patch based on his own admittedly subjective experience and observations. He originally began from the top down; after neglecting to continue his list for a while, he recently resumed a revised version from the bottom up–and that list has now been completed.

We recently reported on his new bottom and low and mid and upper tiers; to finish it all off, here are his high and top tier videos:

Since first starting this list, it seems ZeRo’s had a change of heart on a few fighters: no longer as confident in Ryu, ZeRo has moved the wandering warrior down while bumping up Sonic and–to the surprise of many players–now claims Rosalina & Luma belong in the number one spot. Midgar’s Cloud fell in ZeRo’s esteem all the way from #2 to #6, while mainstay Fox climbed a bit–even Bayonetta got a post-nerf boost.

The list is complete, but the debates will undoubtedly continue.

Shiba and Simone Cannon Spike Their Way into the CFN Portal with These Profiles

Back in 2000, Japanese developer Psikyo released a multi-directional twitch arcade shooter known as Cannon Spike, or Gun Spike in Japan, named after Cammy’s trademark Special Move. It was later released by Capcom that same year for the Sega Dreamcast. The title allowed you to control fan-favorite Capcom characters, such as Arthur, Cammy (whose SFV outfit is based off of this game’s design), Nash, B.B Hood and Mega Man, as you blasted through multiple Capcom-themed stages. Recently, the CFN Portal decided to spotlight the two original characters in the game, Shiba and Simone.

Today we have the mysterious young man Shiba. He seems to be cooperating with Delta Red, the British Special Forces group to which Cammy belongs. Basically, he’s an enemy of Shadaloo.

A former skateboarding world champion. He hates evil since he was involved in a terrorist attack, and he is currently cooperating with Delta Red. He uses a hoverboard, invented by Ginzu. He’s followed by a support robot named Akabi that subjugates mobs and insurgencies by spitting flames from its mouth. Shiba seems to be acquainted with Nash, but when and where they met is unknown.

Next up, we have the second original character from Cannon Spike, Simone! A nasty, bothersome mercenary who aids Delta Red, like the previously introduced youth Shiba. She wields a powerful samurai sword!

She performs her assignments with her samurai sword in hand. She’s also excellent at handling firearms. She prefers high-caliber Magnum automatic handguns. Furthermore, she knows Kenpō, and part of her body is cybernetic. Her Special Move is “Kattōha,” (“Sliding Blade Wave”) a, iaido sword draw. She can do aerial throws too!

More Korean High Level Play in SpiritZero’s Road to Southeast Asia Majors Replay

Team SpiritZero has been busy as a bee lately. They recently held a qualifier for Tokyo Game Show, and now they have doubled up their exposure of Korean players to the world by hosting a Southeast Asia Majors qualifier as well. On Saturday, September 3rd, 52 of Korea’s best gathered in the city of Anyang, just south of Seoul.  The result was a relative unknown outside of Korea–a Ryu player known as Jungjil–narrowly edging out the people’s champion of Street Fighter V Crash, Sandbag, to take the entry to SEAM 2016.

SpiritZero has posted the replay of the tournament on Youtube, which features some of the usual suspects in Korea. As well as the aforementioned Jungjil and Sandbag, look for matches from 200won, Nin (again registered as Parkhyunkyu), M. Lizard, Jun8, diabloDOC, Xyzzy, and many more. This event again features Korean commentary by murderK and Razer’s Infiltration.
