Shadaloo’s Apprentice Dolls Look to Make the Grade in These CFN Profiles

Most fans of Street Fighter are familiar with Shadaloo’s group of 12 assassins known as the Dolls, due to them having a large role in Street Fighter V’s Cinematic Story Mode, in addition to Juni, Juli and Decapre being playable in past titles. We even covered their CFN Profiles back in June. However, it’s a little-known fact that there are actually a group of Apprentice Dolls within Shadaloo, who are ranked below the main group we’ve come to know, with the aspirations of someday rising through the ranks to join them. There are three Classes of Apprentice Dolls as follows:

Basic Information:

Name: Junior Dolls
Equipment: Night-Vision goggles, Psycho Power amplifying devices
Duties: Serving each of the Four Heavenly Kings, Infiltration, Base Security

Junior Dolls

Name: Intermediate Dolls
Equipment: Chest rigs, Headsets, Psycho Armor (Epaulets), Psycho Stun Guns, Psycho Grenades
Duties: Serving the Four Heavenly Kings, Battle, Base Security, Sabotage

Intermediate Dolls

Name: Senior Dolls
Equipment: Psycho Armor (Epualets)
Work: Serving each of the Four Heavenly Kings, Commanding troops and directing battles, Training the Junior and Intermediate Dolls, Battle, Sabotage

Senior Dolls

These are all soldiers who yearn to be Dolls. Some Junior Dolls appeared in the pachislot game Chun-Li ni makase China (“Chun-Li Leaves China”). The Intermediate and Senior Dolls are more combat-oriented, and tend to be out on the battlefield. Senior Dolls actually outrank the Senior Shadaloo Soldiers! Their code names come from the signature flowers of their home countries, such as the Löwenzahn, a German name for the common Dandelion.

Wavedash Games Outlines the First Eight Character Archetypes for Their Platform Fighter

As well as visual design, making your characters fit clear archetypes is vital for designing a cast of diverse fighters when creating a fighting game. In their quest to become a titan of the platform fighter genre, Wavedash Games have laid out some of the character archetypes they will be experimenting with while developing their game. They’ve already revealed their ‘Speedy Brawler’ and that’s Ashani. This is your spectator friendly character–someone like Captain Falcon in Super Smash Bros. They hit hard and look cool while doing it. According to Jason from Wavedash, Ashani is about 30% familiar tools and 70% new designs. I think with her suit giving off sparks, I imagine we’ll see a knee of justice in there somewhere.

The next archetype is again familiar to Smash fans and that’s the Space Animal like Fox or Falco. So, they’ll have a Shine-esque move, will be very speedy and can have great combo potential but they will take some proper training to master. MagicScrumpy has done some experimentation with what the “Ultimate Spacie” would look like so that could be a possible starting point for imagining what this Space Animal will fight like. Next up is a Sword Fighter, which is another archetype Smashers are used to. Focused on silky smooth movement and rewarding you with perfect spacing via a mechanic like Marth’s tipper, Wavedash’s Sword Fighter should suit anyone who loves pulling off a Ken Combo.

These three familiar archetypes should be seen in action by the end of this year, but the next five are fighters who remix various character styles and elements to hopefully create something brand new. One of them is a Weapon Fighter, so someone who uses something that isn’t a sword to fight. Personally, I’ve always wanted to see a lance or axe user in Smash, based off either Ephraim or Hector from Fire Emblem, so this should be the character many have been hoping for. Grappler is the next fighting archetype and we actually know a bit more about this one than just early design ideas. The fighter’s name is Xana and she is actually past the prototyping stage, with Wavedash attempting to take elements of characters like Donkey Kong from Smash, and melding it with traditional grappler characters like Potemkin and Zangief. With the best platform fighter characters being highly mobile, balancing a grappler so they can keep up with the speedier cast members will prove quite the challenge.

Next up is the Projectile Master, so the closest analogue would be a character like Snake or Samus in Smash, or maybe Morrigan in Marvel vs. Capcom. They rack up damage by zoning your opponent and limiting their approaches, before killing with a powerful charge move. So, imagine Morrigan’s Soul Fist pressure but with Samus’ Charge Shot to finish the stock. Following them is an archetype which can be equally annoying which is the Duo. Obvious comparisons here are the Ice Climbers and Rosalina & Luma, who can be the absolute bane of certain players. Wavedash are attempting to make playing against their Duo fighter as fun as playing with them, so expect no wobbling style technique in their platform fighter. I hope at least.

Finally, the last archetype of the starting eight is the Floaty. These are characters like Mewtwo or Peach who have low weights, low fall speeds and are adept at really slowing the pace of combat down in order to fit their gameplan. These are the polar opposites to your Space Animals, this archetype is all about defensive, distance based play. I’ll leave you to speculate on your possible ideas for how these characters may end up but make sure to comment on the video with your own ideas for a fighter you’d like to see in the finished game.

Tekken 7 Will Have a “Greatest vs. Greatest” Stage Show at the Tokyo Game Show

Bandai Namco Entertainment recently revealed their stage schedule for the 2016 Tokyo Game Show. As expected, among the games that the company will be showing on stage is none other than their flagship fighting game, Tekken 7: Fated Retribution.

While Tekken 7 being featured isn’t surprising, what is exciting is exactly what they’re going to have on stage. The listing for Tekken 7 states that they will be holding a special “Greatest vs. Greatest” stage show. What exactly this means is as of yet unknown, however it does hint at some for of exhibition show, or maybe even a tournament.

With the show being held in Japan, it’s not much of a stretch to imagine Bandai Namco bringing in some top players from the country–as well as neighboring Korea–to participate in the show.

The Tekken 7 Greatest vs. Greatest stage show at the Tokyo Game Show will take place on Sunday, September 18, from 10:30 AM to 11:10 AM Japan time (6:30 PM to 7:10 PM PST on September 17).

Smashers and the FGC Hammer Out Their Differences on This Episode of UltraChen TV

With the recent Twitter hullabaloo which saw members of the FGC and the Smash community clashing over issues such as VIP rooms and the treatment of top players as celebrities, it was about time someone got community heads from both camps to sit down and clear the air. UltraChen TV have done just that, bringing in Smash community leaders like Daniel ‘tafokints’ Lee, D’Ron ‘D1’ Maingrette and Calvin ‘Gimr’ Lofton to break bread (or as seen in the video Chinese food) and discuss the pertinent issues which have caused the recent friction between the two groups.

What results is a productive round-table discussion, with each side offering their own perspectives and reasoning on issues such as floating players through pools and whether the two scenes are necessarily compatible on these talking points. Whatever banner you rally behind or your own thoughts going into this discussion, definitely give it a watch and see if your opinions change after hearing figures from both sides vent their respective spleens on the issues put forth.

Harada: We Wanted Street Fighter Players to be Able to Port Their Skills Over to Tekken 7

Following Evo 2016, some of the biggest topics of discussion regarding Tekken 7 revolved around Akuma; specifically, the fact that Street Fighter player Lee Chung Gon–more commonly known as Poongko, from Team Secret–took 3rd place with him, and the fact that many considered him to be too strong.

These things–Poongko’s ease of transition into Tekken 7, as well as the game’s overall balance, were some of the things that VG24/7 discussed with Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada when they met at Gamescom last month.

When discussing how easily Poongko seems to have transitioned into Tekken 7, Harada confirmed that this was their intention. “That’s what we were hoping would happen,” he states, “that players like Poongko who know the character well in Street Fighter could just take their Street Fighter skills that they’ve honed and easily port it over to Tekken.”

That said, he did say that seeing (Street Fighter producer) Yoshinori Ono’s glee whenever Akuma would win put a damper on things. “He was pretty happy each time Akuma would win a match, so… that was kind of irritating,” admits Harada.

As for the game’s balance: to handle fan feedback on that and other issues, Harada states that they combine feedback from social media and Twitter (where Harada has a vocal presence), with actual hard data from polls and results from the arcade.

One interesting thing he stated is that they never take fan feedback at face value. Harada states that “most of the time somebody’s saying something, but the truth is that what they’re saying isn’t exactly what they want.” He continues, saying that “we have to look and say–what is the underlying cause that’s led to them saying that particular thing?”

Aside from these, Harada also gives his thoughts on fighting games and the genre as an esport, stating that the two are “a good match.”

SNK Showcases Verse, the King of Fighters XIV’s Final Boss, in Their Latest Trailer

The King of Fighters XIV has been in the hands of players for some time now; however, Atlus and SNK have still released one last character trailer for the game. Considering who the featured character in question is, we can understand why they’ve just put the trailer out now: the trailer in question showcases the game’s final boss, Verse, someone who Atlus asked players who got early copies not to spoil. As with most SNK bosses, Verse comes stuffed to the gills with moves that can seem quite unfair–including multiple projectiles, and a mid-screen grab that sets up even more projectiles.

Check out Verse in the video below.

The King of Fighters XIV is now available for the PlayStation 4.

Mortal Kombat XL Arrives on PC At Last: October 2016

According to Warner Bros., Mortal Kombat XL and all of its content will soon find its home on PCs starting on October 4. This news has been a long time coming, after NetherRealm Studios seemingly abandoned the idea of a PC release and then later surprised folks with an update and beta.

Series creator Ed Boon has been teasing folks after running a poll to see what players wanted most between additional character balances, an ESL Tournament Season 4, or a PC port. After running the results, the PC port held a close lead.

Less than a month later, Boon left a “Kryptic” message for PC users that inspired hope among the community.

All of the balances that went along with the most recent beta test will be available to all owners of Mortal Kombat X on PC on October 4 as well.

It is nice to see the PC version being brought up to speed. According to GameSpot, the reason behind Mortal Kombat X’s troubled PC support stemmed from how the game is installed. NetherRealm decided to implement a new installation system that would allow the game to be played without requiring every file to be on the hard drive; this lead to many issues for the title and for a time, patches hurt the game more than they helped. At least the game will at last be comparable in content to its console cousins.

With Injustice 2, NetherRealm Studio’s most recent project–currently only announced for consoles–one can hope that it will see an eventual PC release after having more time to give the title their full attention.

Glimpse Inside the Illuminati with These Latest Street Fighter V CFN Profiles

Anyone who’s seen Street Fighter V’s Cinematic Story Mode knows that the future machinations of Gill and Urien are beginning to be set into motion. Courtesy of the CFN Portal, we’ll take a look at some of the associates–and experiments–of the Illuminati, also known as the “Secret Society.”

First up is Eleven, who as the name implies, is the predecessor to Street Fighter III’s Twelve, an artificial life form that can manipulate its body and features in a variety of ways.

A life form created by the Secret Society from plants, rather than animals; apparently, it is possible for it to mimic other figures. It has no free will or intentions, and will only faithfully do what it has been ordered to. But it still seems to be in the prototype stage…

Next up is the perfected specimen of this research, Twelve.

Basic Information:

Name: Twelve
Height: 175cm (variable)
Weight: 85kg (variable)
Blood Type: Unknown
Birthday: Unknown
Country of Origin: Unknown

The “pure-white slaughter weapon!” Once you’ve become its target, the end is near for you. A powerful warrior given birth by Gill’s organization, a mass produced slaughter machine–reports stating over 500 of them have been identified. It can copy the appearance of an opponent, modify its appearance, change its arms into sharp blades, and even disappear by becoming transparent, making itself invisible to the human eye. It can even generate a patgium membrane between its arms and legs to glide through the air.

Weight: 40kg
Blood Type: Unknown

In addition to Effie, it seems this guy was also “remodeled.” It seems they were given special abilities and sent into war. Somehow, she uses a chainsaw…

Next up, we have the devious man behind all of these creations, Dr. Wu! A genius scholar belonging to Gill’s organization, the creator of Eleven and Twelve, and also the person who preformed modification surgery on Necro.

Basic Information:

Name: Dr. Wu
Height: 152cm
Weight: 67kg
Blood type: B
Birthday: February 26,
Country of Origin: China
Favorite things: Experimental study
Dislikes: violence

He was originally a world-famous scientist before he was kidnapped by the secret society. Since his capture, he has been using Urien’s body reconstruction theories as a base to produce a variety of biological weapons. It seems he has also benefited from this himself. His IQ is above 1300 (self-proclaimed).

To close things out, we’ll take a look at the woman behind Nash’s resurrection, Helen–who later becomes Gill’s secretary, Kolin.

Weight: 65kg
Blood type: AB
Birthday: February 14

That wraps up another round of profiles, but make sure to check out our coverage of the protagonists of the canceled Capcom Fighting All-Stars here.
