The next Hearthstone expansion has been named. Called Year of the Raven, the new content is named for one of the heavenly bodies surrounding Azeroth. Year of the Raven comes with changes to both Standard and Wild game types and will include three new expansions to the card set. In addition, some of the Classic set will be inducted into the “Hall of Fame” and will be usable only in Wild ruleset games.

The latest update has been deployed to Hearthstone that brings the four card balance changes mentioned last week into the game. In addition, Wildfest has arrived that allows players to take part in Wild Arena and two different tavern brawls from February 19th to March 11th.

The Hearthstone team has unveiled a new event for players called the Quest for Packs Sweepstakes. From February 1st through February 14th, completing a single daily quest per day offers players an entry into a sweepstakes where the grand prize winner will receive 3,000 card packs to open, the Lich King’s Helm (ZOMG!) and a Hearthstone Apparel Gift Pack.

The Hearthstone team has sent word that four cards are being handed the nerf bat in a very personal way just in time for the February update.

The first comic based on the characters and events in Hearthstone: Kobolds and Catacombs has been published. In this one, two Kobolds who “are not the brightest candles in the catacombs, named Hucklemuck and Mire, are being subjected to the overwhelming demands of the Kobold King as well as trying to fend off local denizens of the tunnels and ardent adventurers looking for treasure.

In preparation for tomorrow’s launch, patch v10.0 has been deployed for the desktop version of Hearthstone with a bit of matchmaking going live already and the rest arriving with tomorrow’s launch.

If you’ve been looking forward to the next Hearthstone expansion, you’ll be happy to hear that the wait is nearly over. On Tuesday, December 7th, the Kobolds & Catacombs expansion will launch with 135 new cards, new card types, a new Legendary Weapon for each class and the free single-player mode called Dungeon Runs.

Starting on November 14th, Death Knight Hero cards will no longer be able to be drafted during Arena game play in HearthStone. Blizzard feels that the permanent Hero Power upgrades are hard to counter when present in the Arena, even if fun to be overpowered.
