The release process of modern MMOs seems to have settled into a normative pattern: Game X gets announced, pre-purchase packs go on sale, closed betas are marketed, and open beta marks the informal launch. These phases are followed by a more official kickoff down the road, which may or may not include a rebranding as free-to-play after a certain amount of time.

Accessibility: It seems to be the mantra for AAA RPGs these days. By itself, there’s no problem with that, being accessible is something all games should aspire to so more players can enjoy them. The problem is, developers too often think more accessibility should mean less difficulty. Looking through my library of games, one studio stood out more than any other: Bioware. Larian Studios has sent out a newsletter to KickStarter backers to announced that Divinity: Original Sin 2 is in the works and that the project will be turning to KickStarter on August 26th. Players are also invited to head to the new Divinity: Original Sin 2 page to give input about rewards and to vote on others that have been submitted by fans of the series.

Loot & Legends: A Fun Mobile Diversion

I’m not really one for mobile games. Typically I get the press release and just send it to the trash bin. It’s not my area of focus so I really don’t pay that much attention to them. Such was the case with Loot & Legends. If I hadn’t been prompted from a text by one of my friends to check it out I never would have even bothered to install it. I’m glad he took the time to send me that text.
