Blizzard revealed its team-based shooter, Overwatch, earlier today. To provide more details, an official press announcement has been released.

During the opening ceremonies at the 2014 Blizzcon convention, it was announced that Overwatch would be joining the Blizzard stable of games. It is a cooperative team-based shooter and the beta is expected to kick off in 2015. The team released a game play video to show off the wonder of its new game.

Today’s news will probably seem to be a purposeful theme, an assessment that isn’t far off the mark. Today marks the beginning of Blizzard Entertainment’s (mostly) annual fan convention, Blizzcon. Attendees from all over the world have made their way to Anaheim, California, usually renown for Disneyland but for this weekend, all eyes are on the convention center and the news that is likely to rock the MMO and general games space that will emerge from it.

With BlizzCon ramping up for this weekend, there’s a fair amount of buzz here among the staffers regarding the Warlords of Draenor release. I myself have received the customary pre-launch emails from Blizzard encouraging me to re-activate my World of Warcraft account with seven free days of game time. Like with previous WoW expansions, I’ve given the thought of resubscribing more than a passing thought. Unlike previous releases, however, I’m not as convinced that I need to jump back in.

Cory Doctorow and Jen Wang have written a new graphic novel / comic called "In Real Live" that centers around a young female gamer that is paid for hunting down ‘gold farmers’. While aimed squarely at the younger MMO audience, IRL seeks to teach readers more about worldwide politics, tolerance and activism.
