General: Global Users Spend 8-15% of Leisure Time Gaming

Nielsen has released a new paper called 360 Gaming Report that reveals some very similar worldwide gaming statistics. Across the globe, gamers spend between 8-15% of leisure time primarily playing on consoles and mobile devices with a nearly 50-50 split between male and female gamers. Console gamers tend to be in the 35 and under bracket with PC gamers averaging between 30-45 years old.

General: Hostile Takeover of Gameloft Complete, Vivendi Eyes Ubisoft

After years of quietly, and sometimes not so quietly, buying up any shares of Gameloft, Vivendi finally has become the majority owner of the mobile games company. Alongside the Gameloft purchases, Vivendi has also been making moves on Ubisoft by purchasing available stocks from shareholders at an inflated price that ‘encourages’ them to sell. The Guillemot brothers run Ubisoft and have been scrambling to secure agreements from shareholders to keep more Ubi stocks out of Vivendi hands.

General: ‘Ridiculous to Dedicate an Entire Room to VR Gaming’

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, speaking at the Cowen & Company Technology, Media and Telecom Conference, has said that there are too many impediments to VR gaming in the current state of the world and that it’s “ridiculous to think the average home in America would dedicate an entire room to VR gaming”.
