As the year draws to a close, gamers and critics around the world are figuring what their best games of the year were. In the RPG category there are two clear contenders: Fallout 4 and The Witcher 3. Fallout is a phenomenon years in the making. On the other hand, The Witcher 3 is a grassroots success that has taken the gaming world by storm. Despite a long, beloved history and mighty publishing power of Bethesda, The Witcher 3 is by far the better roleplaying game. Here’s why.

I’m sitting here on Festivus writing my second to last column for the year and I would like to thank each of who visit the site. We couldn’t do what it is that we do around here without all of you readers out there stopping by and taking the time to read our reviews, musings, and predictions on games. I know time is limited and as I get older I realize just how precious of a commodity it is. So again, thank you.

Namco-Bandai has announced that Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization will be making its way westward in the fall of 2016. Several characters from previous titles will be featured as well including Kirito, Leafa and Asuna.

Backers who contributed $45+ can now download and play The Dwarves Alpha 1, a portion of the game that includes about two hours of game play. The announcement was made via the game’s KickStarter page.

The Escape from Tarkov team has a little holiday surprise for fans with a new sneak peek video that shows off both the inventory system and the looting process as it stands currently in pre-alpha.

Gematsu has translated a recent interview with Final Fantasy VII director Tetsuya Nomura and producer Yoshinori Kitase. In it, the pair revealed that the remake of Final Fantasy VII will be fully voiced, though the actors have yet to be chosen. In addition, mini-games will be included, production has officially started, and the game is focused around player’s affect on the game scenery rather than on an open sandbox environment.

Disney recently soft-launched the sequel to the Facebook/Mobile Marvel turn-based RPG, Marvel: Avengers Alliance in Australia, Sweden, and Denmark. I was also obsessed with the original game, but it was wildly Pay-to-Win, so I had to force myself to stop playing it. The sequel, Avengers Alliance 2, is only on mobile and sports a snazzy new 3D aesthetic, so curiosity lead me to figure out a way to play it and I can honestly say I’m already equally obsessed with the damn thing.
