Unused Characters Discovered in the Original Virtua Fighter’s Code
Most Shoryuken readers are likely familiar with data mining due to how it has given out clues to future developments coming to certain games. That said, that’s not all that data mining can be used for. Data mining can also be used in older games to tell us more about their development, and certain things we may have missed out on due to them being dummied out.
In a recent video, SEGA Bits discusses the unused characters that have been that have been recently discovered in SEGA’s original Virtua Fighter from 1993. The first of these, Siba, is already well known to Virtua Fighter fans since he appeared in early screenshots of the game, before he was eventually cut (though his face still appeared on the US arcade cabinet). Siba did eventually appear in Fighters Megamix, but with a totally different moveset.
The second fighter is what seems to be an early version of Akira Yuki. The main difference here is that he has bangs partly covering his eyes but retaining spiky hair in the back. Other than that, he’s the same character as the final one.
The third fighters is a military style character named Jeff. Jeff is interesting from a technical point of view due to the technique SEGA used to render camouflage without relying on texture maps (which the series only got in Virtua Fighter 2).

Can Daigo Prepare for the Guile Matchup? Watch Him Try in These Street Fighter V Online Sets
When I posted my editorial about NuckleDu’s chances at Capcom Cup, one of the most pertinent comments I received was that both Daigo Umehara and Tokido have stated that they have problems with Guile. While for many this would be a constant Achilles’ Heel, for the top players this is a challenge to rise above.
Daigo, the consummate pro, has taken matters into his own hands to learn the Guile match-up. In this video put together by Xuses, we see Daigo square off against one of the best Guiles in the world, Doyanbo. What happens is a long story of the Beast’s adaptation to a match-up he finds to be one of Ryu’s worst, and a lesson in how to fight the match-up for all the Ryu mains out there scratching their heads at Guile.

Garou: Mark of the Wolves Trophy List Surfaces for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita
Announced back at SNK’s panel during this year’s Evo, there has been relative silence on the PS4 and PS Vita rereleases of Garou: Mark of the Wolves as of late, probably due to SNK’s focus on King of Fighters XIV. Well, it seems that its release should be pretty soon, as the game’s trophy list has recently surfaced online.
The trophies mostly concern completing the Arcade Mode with the entire roster, as well as beating Survival Mode and clearing Arcade Mode without using continues. The only difficult trophy on the list is the “Mark of the Wolves” trophy, which involves getting 10 consecutive victories on Ranked multiplayer, but this should be no problem for veteran players.
With King of Fighters ’94 available to buy on the PlayStation Store, with Samurai Shodown and Fatal Fury scheduled for release later this year, it’s the perfect time to be an SNK fan. With the PlayStation Experience on the horizon in December and SNK being on the list of exhibitors at the show, it stands to reason that a release date for Garou: Mark of the Wolves will be revealed during the convention.
