Poongko Credits Pepeday for His Return to El Fuerte in Ultra Street Fighter IV

Arcade Stream recently shared part of a short interview with Poongko during his birthday where he talked about his sponsorship as well as how he thought he compared to other known players. Now, they’re back with another video with the rest of the discussion.

In the interview, Poongko touches on quite a number of topics, including a memorable incident from Evo 2015 where a player named Onisan copied Poongko’s habit of taking off his shirt, prompting him to return in kind. According to Poongko, he actually thought that Onisan was a funny guy for doing that.

On why he actually does this, Poongko admits that it is kind of embarrassing for him and that it’s not something he loves to do. However, he now considers it a trademark that helps him get hyped up for a match.

He then talks about his current choice of characters, namely El Fuerte and Seth. Regarding the former, he says that he actually played the luchador a lot when Street Fighter IV first came out because he was fun to play. His reason for going back recently was due to meeting El Fuerte specialist FGC|Pepeday in the grand finals of Canada Cup 2014. He says that he learned a lot from their match and started practicing the character again because of it.

As for Seth, he says that before Ultra Street Fighter IV, he used to play him in a style that was built around taking a lot of risks. With the changes to Seth in Ultra, Poongko was forced to get rid of many of his bad habits, but he does feel the character’s walk speed is still too slow.

As for his thoughts on Street Fighter V, Poongko says that he was impressed with what he was able to play at Evo. Based on his current experience with playing Ryu, he’s feeling pretty good about the game’s potential.
