Poongko: “[HooDaMan] might be the one true Honda player.”
During his visit to South Korea, Pandora House’s Hooman “HooDaMan” Ghahremani stopped by Arcade Stream’s monthly tournament in preparation for his appearance at Tokyo Game Show 2015 later this month. This, of course, gave the folks there the opportunity to add him to their excellent series of video interviews.
After first traveling to South Korea in 2009, HooDaMan says he fell in love with the country. He previously tried his hand at qualifying for the now-defunct World eSports Championship Games finals, and despite playing E. Honda was able to place third behind Infiltration and QANBA’s Dakou.
“I think, in Ultra Street Fighter IV, Honda is extremely bottom tier. He’s like the worst or second-worst character in the game, so to play him competitively is asking a little bit too much,” HooDaMan says of his character choice. “I definitely needed a secondary. I wanted to pick up a new character from the five that were released in Ultra, and I just picked up Decapre because she has Hundred Hand Slaps kind of like Honda.”
Even though he’s stuck it out with a weaker character, HooDaMan has gained respect from the local community thanks mostly to his raw talent. “HooDaMan is a very cautious player; of course, that plays to Honda’s strengths,” Poongko explains. “[He] has leveled up so much [that] I wonder if he’s the same guy from when I first played him. He might be the one true Honda player.”
