Cancel Dashes to Extend Throw Range in Street Fighter V
One little known technique in Street Fighter IV is the ability to cancel some characters’ dashes to slightly extend their range slightly and, now, it seems that this also exists in Street Fighter V.
In their new video, Ilitirit demonstrates how, by canceling a dash, players can extend Ryu’s range enough to be able to throw from a distance he normally wouldn’t be able to.
As for how this works, it’s speculated that this happens because the reeling animation that pulls Ryu back at the end of his dash isn’t counted as part of the move. Rather, it’s a state between dashing and standing meant to make the animation look smoother that, nonetheless, counts as being back in neutral.
What seems to extend the range is the fact that the character’s center point is further out at the end of the dash before the reeling animation pulls it back. Canceling it keeps that center point from moving back, allowing for the extended range.
Please remember that, as this was discovered in a beta build, it’s entirely possible that it won’t be present in the final release.
