Street Fighter V Roundup – F.A.N.G Frame Traps, Loads of Birdie Tips, and More
Today’s Street Fighter V community roundup features a couple of option selects to up your game, as well as a host of Birdie-related tips and tricks. We’ve also got a fair share of other options in store, so let’s get started!
UltraDavid of UltraChenTV has been in the lab working on some ways around common setups–like Laura’s Bolt Charge to s.LP or command grab, or Mika’s charged HK to s.LK or command grab–to remove some of the risk associated with making a hard choice between the strike or grab when defending. These workarounds make use of a couple of option selects which David explains below.
While this isn’t exactly the same as the fuzzy jump we’ve seen so much of lately (as this doesn’t incorporate a throw tech), it is in a similar vein, allowing players to escape sticky situations by blocking or jumping away, depending on which will actually save their skin.
Of course, there are ways for the offensive party to mix things up and prevent this sort of option select from working. Something so simple as a slight delay in timing the hit involved in the setup could stuff option select attempts. We can’t currently say how the upcoming changes to Street Fighter V will affect this technique, so there may only be a short while left to use it against opponents.
Speaking of option selects, 4Dstreaming sent in a bit of footage surrounding the current fuzzy jump option, offering a look at how some characters may be able to deal with it.
Ricardo “Mono” Roman and GamersGrid TV are back again today with another episode of Shadowloo Bootcamp. In this latest installment, Mono continues his analysis of F.A.N.G by offering plenty of frame trap options to go along with the combos from previous episodes.
One of the more important new mechanics in Street Fighter V is the Crush Counter. If you’re not totally sure what’s involved in pulling off–or making the most of–one of these, BeyondTechnical’s newest video will certainly help clear things up.
It’s been a little while since we heard from SpabRog with regard to the latest in V-Reversal destroying technology, but his crusade is far from over. His most recent footage, which you can find below, demonstrates Ryu’s ability to buffer a parry into a common blockstring, allowing for a maximum V-Reversal punish in the event that someone attempts to escape his pressure.
If you’re looking to add some dirty tricks to your Birdie game, how about a mid-screen cross-up that keeps you in front of your opponent upon landing? This quick clip from DefinitionDeny shows the tactic in action.
Some #SFV Birdie tech I figured out. Crossup midscreen but remain in front of opponent. https://t.co/iLyOxvYw5e pic.twitter.com/9S7N7rGlcQ

But that’s not all the Birdie we’ve got to show off. If you’re looking for more specifics with regard to using each of the fighter’s moves, from buttons to chains, this lengthy tutorial from Hadoken has what you need.
Up next, Snatcher takes a look at how to set up Birdie’s overhead and how best to follow up to score some additional damage. As an added bonus, they’ve also included what may be the fighter’s maximum combo damage in a second short clip.
And we round things out on the Birdie front with a combo video from neekogaming. These have more of a practical lean, but Birdie can still crank out some crazy numbers!
Thanks to his access to the fastest Critical Art startup in the game, Zangief can punish plenty of moves the rest of the cast can’t. If you’re wondering exactly what he can (and can’t) use his Critical Art to punish, this new video from Van Diesel Productions has all of the information you could possibly want. Clocking in at over 40 minutes, this footage shows the Red Cyclone landing his super against everything from Chun-Li’s sweep to Ryu’s Collarbone Breaker.
Got some tech of your own to show off? Send it in, and it could be part of our next Street Fighter V community roundup!
