Pokkén Tournament Outsells Street Fighter V in US

Is the popularity of Pikachu all it took to K.O. the down right fierceness of Street Fighter?

Maybe!

There are a variety of elements at play that resulted in Pokkén Tournament outselling the newest installment of Street Fighter in the United States, but it’s hard not to give props to the surprisingly deep Pokémon fighting game.

This sales information was confirmed by video game analyst, ZhugeEX, regarding the NPD Group US Games Industry report for April 2016.

An interesting tidbit to consider is that these numbers only take into account physical copies sold, so neither game is getting a boost from digital marketplaces. ZhugeEX acknowledges this and clarifies that the outcome would still be the same regardless.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 Set to Release Later this Year

Bandai Namco recently announced that they’ll be following up the wildly successful Dragon Ball Xenoverse with the aptly named sequel, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2. Dimps is once again at the helm of development and they plan to create the “largest and most detailed Dragon Ball world ever developed.”

In the game, players are given the task of protecting Dragon Ball history, but this time it is teased that players will be able to alter key events in the universe. The game will release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

I for one am curious about the content this game is going to pack. The most recent anime, Dragon Ball Super, is well on its way in Japan, but is not near completion. There also isn’t any word on a U.S. adaptation, which could complicate things if content was planned to be used. It would be nice, though, for the game to include a few characters and transformations from what has been shown thus far!

Those hoping for more information surrounding the game will not have to wait long. Bandai Namco promises more details to be revealed at E3 2016, so mark your calendars for June 14 through June 16.

Make the Most of Orcane’s Unusual Options in Rivals of Aether

When you initially boot up Rivals of Aether, Orcane is probably not the first character to catch your eye. Zetterburn, with his high attack power and stylish flaming lion design, might be more your speed. Perhaps you’re more in the “Gotta go Fast” camp and gravitate straight to Maypul? At any rate, there’s something for everyone in Rivals, and though Orcane might not be the coolest looking beastie around, the whaledog really shines when you start digging into what you can do with its unusual moveset.

DolphinBrick–who’s one of the best Orcane players in the world, according to Rivals creator Dan Fornace –has done just that. In his “How to Train Your Whaledog” video, he breaks down Orcane’s moveset alongside a demonstration of some of the trickier aspects to her style and even muses on what might be the best way to approach playing the Water Rival. It’s aimed at beginners, but that doesn’t mean that it’s not chock full of useful information no matter your skill level, so be sure to check it out.

Learn to Work with Jack-O’s Minions in this Guilty Gear XRD -REVELATOR- Tutorial

Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-, which is nearing console release, has a band of returning and brand-new characters. Among them, Jack-O’ stands out as a unique fighter who introduces elements of RTS or even MOBA genres into the “Heaven or Hell” bouts.

Jack-O’ is relatively easy to pickup at the outset, as a lot of her moves have simple executions. She’s able to set three different minion houses, which promptly start spouting little swordsmen, pikemen, and mages to poke at the opponent. Over time, they level up and get stronger. Jack-O’ can also throw the Pumpkin houses and utilize a cooldown-based command organ to enrage her flock or even detonate them for massive (and potentially collateral!) damage.

What separates wanna-be Jack-O’s from the skilled ones is deliberate use of the minions in combos. Minions attack at specific intervals, and while they don’t have a lot of hit stun on their own, they allow Jack-O’ to extend her offense with her multi-directional grab.

GodPress created a handy “Minion Primer” to explain the timings and quirks of each goon. They follow it up with a couple of example combos to get started on pressuring opponents with a band of annoying twerps.

Toryuken 5 Day 1 Streaming Live!

This weekend is Toryuken 5, the fifth of 14 qualifier events for Capcom Pro Tour North America. The event will take place at the Queen Elizabeth Building in Toronto, Ontario. Toryuken 5 is a Street Fighter V Capcom Pro Tour 2016 ranking tournament so in addition to Canada’s best SFV players, you can expect to see strong players like EG Justin Wong, EG Ricki Ortiz, EG PR Balrog, PG RayRay, PG MarlinPie, etc. attending to try and earn ranking points and qualify for the North American regional finals. In addition to Street Fighter V, you can expect to see many other fighting game tournaments this weekend with over $6000 in pot bonuses.
