Well Played Cup Streaming Live from Tokyo, Japan

Coming to you live from the Tokyo School of Anime in Japan is the Well Played Cup. The event is the final Capcom Pro Tour ranking event hosted in Japan, ahead of the the Tokyo Game Show premier event next month. Eight players have already qualified for the Cup, split evenly between online and offline quals. Eight more players will be added to the list via the final qualifier for a bracket of 16.

  • VX (Nash)
  • Iori (Ken)
  • Nemo (Vega)
  • Yukadon (Nash)
  • Mago (Karin)
  • GO1 (Chun-Li)
  • Eight same-day qualifier players

A sizable number of high-level players will be participating, including Itabashi Zangief, Haitani, Kindo, inco, Daigo Umehara, Kazunoko, NISHIKIN, Shiro, Eita, KeijiN, Kim1234, Machabo-, cojiro, Kindevu, BIGDANMUL, Xian, Marn and many more.

Ryu’s Search for Battle Leads Him Out of Street Fighter and into the Real World

Thus, Ryu follows his fist out of the digital realm to seek new challenges in the real world. But he’s about to learn that as a video game sprite, there are certain limitations to what he can achieve in a three-dimensional setting.

Fire Up Your Engines and Go from Zero to Ninety with Fox’s Footstools in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

Fox is one of the most technically difficult characters to play in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, and it seems like his strongest proponents are still discovering something awesome for him every month.

NME|Xzax has been hitting the lab, it seems–because he’s put together some insane strings that kick off with Fox’s footstools. And continue with some more footstools. It seems that if you’ve got your head hopping on point, you can do some serious work–most of these combos start at less than 10% and leave your opponent sitting at around 90%. Not bad for a single string.

Just don’t try to use them on Palutena, as Skarfelt proves…

Sega Renews Virtua Fighter Trademark

Virtua Fighter is one of the most respected fighting game franchises; even in the West, where its popularity doesn’t match that of other games, the series is still highly respected for its technical depth. Despite this, we haven’t really seen anything new regarding the Virtua Fighter franchise for a long time–outside of character guest-appearances in other games.

That said, it seems that Sega may still have some plans for franchise in the future. According to Trademarkia, the company has recently renewed the trademark for Virtua Fighter.

Now, take note that this doesn’t necessarily mean that a new Virtua Fighter game is coming–companies renew their trademarks all the time, if just to protect them. But it does show that Sega retains enough interest in the franchise to hold on to their trademark for it.
