Kakutop League Returns for Its Fifth Installment on Saturday November 19th

Preparing the best of Europe ahead of the Capcom Cup early next month, the indomitable Ken Bogard is hosting the fifth edition of the Kakutop League, where 10 of Europe’s best Street Fighter players come together for a solid day of round robin matches. The event will over the whole of Saturday 19th November, starting in the morning and hoping to finish at midnight. The invited guests were picked based on their final positions on the Capcom Pro Tour leaderboard–and before you ask where Ryan Hart and Phenom are, they were invited but unable to make this intense one day event.

All ten players will be separated into two pools, where everyone will play each other in a series of round robin first to three sets. The top two players from each pool will automatically qualify into the finals, while a third player will be decided by a first to five set between the third ranked player from Pool A and Pool B. The final three will then play a round robin series of first to five set to determine the grand Kakutop League champion. The ten players are as follows:

Pool A:

  • PxP|Problem X (UK)
  • Rize|Coblecog (Ireland)
  • Will2Pac (France)
  • MD|Mister Crimson (France)
  • RB|Luffy (France)

Pool B:

  • AWS|CCL (Belgium)
  • AWS|Akainu (France)
  • Perilous|Packz (UK)
  • Infexious (UK)
  • Imstilldadaddy (UK)

All the action will kick off at 10am local time (9am GMT/1am PST), with the tournament set to finish at around 11:30pm local time (10:30pm GMT/2:30pm PST). There will be two streams, one in French hosted by Ken Bogard himself and an English stream hosted by Unequalled Media, with UM Tyrant and GxC Damascus commentating.

Enter the Dragon: Qanba Dragon Fightstick Now Available for Pre-Order

Qanba’s latest and greatest can now be yours–for a price!

Fighters looking forward to Qanba’s new premium fightstick, the Dragon, will be interested that this beast is now available for pre-order in the USA and Canada.

The features sported by this new Sony-licensed stick–Sanwa Denshi stick and buttons, touchpad, headphone jack, and even LED accent lighting–come at a cost, however: $299.99 USD to be specific, plus shipping. This puts a deeper dent in the wallet than it’s closest comparable model, the popular Mad Catz TE2+, which typically retails from $229.00 USD to $249.00 USD; but in the same price range as the current HORI VLX models–and those don’t have accent lighting, do they?

Stock of this stylish stick is limited, so best not to wait too long is you want to catch a Dragon for yourself.

Sako’s Chun-Li and Mago’s Karin Duke It Out in This FT5 Set for Street Fighter V

Two of Japan’s best battle it out in this first-to-5 for Street Fighter V. Mago (playing as Karin) and HORI|Sako (maining Chun-Li) have faced each other many times before in the past, so it is interesting to see how high-tech their matches get in each player’s quest for victory. Many top players have expressed having trouble facing Chun-Li, but Mago seems to have an elevated understanding of the character and the Chun-Li/Karin Match-up. Sako, being a Karin player himself, reflects his opponent’s level of character knowledge and brings his own execution-heavy style to his character.

Ibuki Has a Kara Throw in Street Fighter V

Capcom has made it clear that option selects and kara throws were something they were trying to keep out of Street Fighter V. Sometimes, these things slip through the cracks–and yet again, another one has been found.

Raf El has discovered an instance where Ibuki can increase her throw range via kara canceling various kicks, including standing roundhouse into her throw. While on the surface, the range increase doesn’t look like a lot, it actually moves her throw range into high-mid tier on the list of throws in the game.

What’s more is that Raf discovered that the standing roundhouse kara throw moves Ibuki slightly backward initially before moving her forward, allowing her to escape some throw attempts, before she unleashes her own grab.

Whether this tech will remain in the game on subsequent updates remains to be seen, but Raf also gives a nifty little bonus combo at the end that shouldn’t be lost if they decide to patch this kara throw out.
