The Art of Learning: The Philocypher Interviews Joe Munday, Author of Gief’s Gym

Joe Munday talks about the motivation behind Gief’s Gym and its usefulness to aspiring Street Fighters.

In the latest addition to his FGC Philosophy series, Tavian “The Philocypher” Napier interviews r/StreetFighter moderator Joe Munday, well-known as the author of Gief’s Gym. Munday’s guide to learning Street Fighter V has gained great popularity in the FGC for it’s detailed and systematic approach to learning to play SFV from the ground up.

In the lengthy discussion, they talk about how the lack of clear tutorial elements inspired Munday to create Gief’s Gym, to explain elements of the game that may be second nature to the pros–but inscrutable to beginners or even intermediate players without some guidance.

What is your level of dedication, and what steps are you willing to take to improve? How to learn, why to learn, and taking personal responsibility for your skill level–rather than blaming “cheap” tactics or characters for your losses–are also explored in the interview below, and much more!

In the first episode of FGC Philosophy, you can check out the Philocypher’s interview with Hollywood Sleep.
