Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 English Site Launches, Coming Soon to PlayStation 3 & 4

Earlier today, Aksys Games (the US publisher for Arc System Works) made an announcement via Twitter; the official English website for the upcoming Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- expansion, REV 2 has just launched.

As we already know from Arc System Works, REV 2 will be available as either a standalone version or as a DLC pack that upgrades the game. PlayStation 4 users have the option of buying a physical copy, while Steam and PS3 only have a digital option. No price nor date has been yet specified, but Arc System Works stated that the price of the upgrade, which will be less than buying the game standalone, should be around ¥2,000–which is approximately $20 USD.

The Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 official website does not mention the Steam version of the game, because Aksys Games doesn’t handle it–as the company explained in a tweet. The recent PC ports have been handled directly by Arc System Works. The website details what content is included in REV 2:

  • Two new characters, Baiken and Answer enter the battle!
  • New stages, moves and motions are just the beginning of new content to explore!
  • Expanded story and arcade modes shed new light on Jam, Kum, Raven, Dizzy, Answer, and Baiken!
  • Complete re-balancing of each fighter means that everything old is new again!

While there isn’t a whole lot of new info on the site, a live website from Aksys Games means that the game is well on its way to getting published on consoles soon.

Stay tuned to SRK for any new developments and read up on our translated patch notes from the second location test for more information about REV 2.

Capcom Shows Off Footage of “The Way of the Hado” Mode for Ultra Street Fighter II

Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers has been confirmed to have a first person mode, and Capcom has now shown off this mode in action on the latest episode of CapcomTV. Named “The Way of the Hado,” this mode is more like a rail shooter than a fighting game, with players throwing fireballs and Shoryukens at incoming Shadaloo soldiers.

Taking advantage of the Nintendo Switch’s JoyCons, players can actually throw a Hadouken by doing the famous pose while having a JoyCon in each hand. By aiming at portions of the screen, you can chuck plasma in different directions and even throw a Metsu Hadouken once the Super bar at the bottom of the screen has filled. If enemies get too close, you can also perform a Shoryuken by throwing your fist into the air.

The mode reuses assets from Street Fighter IV, but the motion controls are unfortunately looking a bit iffy. While maybe a bit of fun for a few minutes, “The Way of the Hado” has the look of a novelty to play once and then forget about, at this point.

You can watch the footage in the video below (and do note that the audio somehow desyncs during this segment, so don’t worry about your computer being on the blink).

Panda Global Unveil Their New Tournament Tier System for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

With the recent release of version two of the Panda Global Rankings for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, there was a fair bit of confusion about the weighting of specific tournaments on rankings. Many fans and players were unsure of how much importance was given to certain events, and how this came to impact a player’s final ranking on the PGR. To increase transparency and to act as a guide for future events, the PGStats team have compiled a Tournament Tier System which should aid in showing how certain tournaments will impact future editions of the PGR.

Tournaments will be range from C Tier up to S Tier, with events earning points based on the number of entrants, the size of the prize pool, the number of current PGR players attending and how many of those players are in the top 20 of the PGR. Events will then be marked up using this system, getting a letter grade depending on the number of points that they earn. To be listed as a C Tier event you need 300 points, B Tier requires 600 points, A Tier requires 1200 points and S Tier requires 2400 points.

So, with this system, Genesis 4 is the only 2017 event that has earned an S Tier ranking, with the two 2GGC Sagas being the only A Tier tournaments. S Tier is really only reserved for super majors like Genesis, Evo, CEO, The Big House and so on, so don’t expect many S Tier events on the TTS going forward. The PGStats team has also made the decision that biweekly or weekly events will not form part of the TTS, as it puts too much weighting towards well known, active regions like MD/VA or SoCal.

This TTS will be subject to change, with tournament weighting and points totals changing as the year goes on so do voice your concerns to the PGStats team if you see anything amiss. My main issue with the weighting system so far is that it still massively privileges US events over those outside the country. One only need to look at the rating for BEAST 7 which Europe’s biggest ever Smash 4 tournament, yet it is a low ranked B Tier tournament with 688 points. Hopefully, the rating system will change as time goes on, in order to reflect the global nature of Smash 4.
