Infil and blackadde discuss fighting game bugs in the first edition of Fightin’ Words
Most famous for creating the excellent Killer Instinct Complete Guide, Infil is branching out into more general fighting game writing, via his website. Together with the writer of the SFIV Rindoukan Bible–blackadde–the two are starting a discussion series called Fightin’ Words, where they talk about elements of fighting games at great length.
For the first installment of this series, the two delve into the history of fighting game bugs to see how glitches have influenced how people play certain games. Not only do the two talk about game-breaking bugs, but they discuss certain instances where glitches have fundamentally changed the way fighting games have been played. From roll cancelling in CvS2, to TAC Infinites in UMvC3 to even the very idea of combos in Street Fighter II, bugs have sometimes defined the competitive future of a fighting game.
The piece goes through many specific examples from various games, with the two analyzing their impact and showing the bugs in action. If you’re into the nuts and bolts of fighting games, the whole blog is worth the read, as both Infil and blackadde really know their stuff.

From what was said during today’s event, more will be revealed on Sunday, June 12th at 2:00 pm Pacific / 5:00 pm Eastern during Day 2 of EA Play.
