Unused character designs paint a different picture of the Injustice 2 universe
Several artists on the creative team of Injustice 2 have released unused concept art that shows what the roster of the NetherRealm/DC brawler might have looked like. While the story behind the scrapped Static design was reported on a while back, we are seeing high resolution prototypes of Firestorm, Green Arrow, Harley Quinn, and others for the first time.
When creating character designs for a roster as iconic as the DC universe, one is surely challenged by the task of adding something original while maintaining the character’s classic aesthetic. It seems that each artist rose to meet this challenge quite competently — even though much of what is shown seems to have been snipped out in the editing process.
Some of these designs are incredibly detailed (and that might have been part of the cause of them being cut in the end) but the creativity that must have went into each one is impressive. Whatever the reasons were for these designs being cut, it definitely wasn’t because they weren’t awesome enough. You can check out all 15 concepts below — and while you’re at it, read about how Static almost made it into Injustice 2.
