Dueling Dragons Dojo streaming live from Chengdu, China
Of the many fighting game events this weekend is Dueling Dragons Dojo (D3) in Chengdu, China. This tourney is a Capcom Pro Tour Global Premier Event, meaning big points for the leaderboards and the Premier standard $15,000 bonus prize pool. It wouldn’t be a Chinese tournament however with KOF! In addition to the Street Fighter V competition are tournaments for The King of Fighters ’97, The King of Fighters XIV and Tekken 7.
Being one of the last Premier Events for this year’s CPT, some of the best players in Asia will be competing. Names include Xiaohai and Jiewa of China; Humanbomb, Oil King and Hotdog29 of Hong Kong; GamerBee and Xiaobao of Taiwain; INFILTRATION, NL and Verloren of South Korea; and Fuudo, MOV, Haitani, Mago, Bonchan, Itabashi Zangief, Momochi, gachikun, Yukadon, sako, Dogura, Daikoku_GO, moke and GO1 of Japan.
The Street Fighter V event will be livestreamed on the Capcom Fighters channel. The remaining events will be streamed on the Chinese platform Panda.tv.

Watch Taiwan and China’s best fight in The King of Fighters XIV at the 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games
While the potential of fighting games in the Olympics look to be at a standstill, organizing bodies of competitive international sporting competitions are still putting fighters in the forefront. Over the weekend, some of Asia’s best players in The King of Fighters XIV found their way to Ashgabat, Turkmenistan for the 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, where esports were on demonstration at the event to potentially be placed in the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.
While one of the best players in the world — Qanba Douyu’s Zhuojun “Xiao Hai” Zeng — was unable to attend due to an organizational snafu, his teammate Haojun “Dakou” Su managed to take bronze for China. Reigning Evo champion in the game Chia-Hung “E.T.” Lin took gold home for Taiwan, while his fellow countryman Chia-Chen “ZJZ” Tseng — who captured fourth at Evo — received the silver.
The final three matches played out were recently uploaded to YouTube — and there were some intense matches, especially in the grand finals.

BornFree explores why arcade mode is still important to a fighting game like Street Fighter V
What it provides players, and why it should be there.
After listing off his top ten changes he wants to see for a potential “Super Street Fighter V” upgrade, BornFree returns to revisit the topic of Arcade Mode — which was left unexplored in his prior video, despite being #4 on the wish list. In the video below, he discusses how important arcade mode is to a fighting title, both as a means of moving units and a way of recruiting new players (a “gateway drug”), regardless if current professional players see a need for it. He goes on to describe the emotional impact and practical benefits of having strong single-player content in a fighting game. Check it out:
BornFree has a slightly different outlook than I settled on when I wrote about this subject last year; though Capcom has not yet met my hopes for a creative –or even adequate — single-player substitute to arcade mode, either. It seems that SFV needs a good arcade mode now, more than ever.
X-Kira recently found some interesting video related to this topic, that may give us an early look into the layout of an SFV arcade mode.
