Ring in the festive season with Twitch’s Holiday Bash Smash Invitational

Twitch has decided to celebrate the start of the holiday season with a special Super Smash Bros. Melee invitational. Bringing together 14 of the world’s best Melee players, the Holiday Bash Smash Invitational will cap off a year’s worth of high-quality Melee and see players competing in both serious events, and fun festive activities.

Unlike other invitationals like Smash Summit, this event is lacking something that most Melee fans expect — the inclusion of the Gods. In a refreshing change to proceedings, the Holiday Bash Smash Invitational will have none of the Gods competing, giving the ‘demi-gods’ and rising stars of the Melee community a chance to shine. Current world number three and Melee God Mango will make an appearance, but he will be behind the commentary desk, rather than on the sticks. The invited player list is as follows:

  • CLG|SFAT
  • CLG|PewPewU
  • IMT|Shroomed
  • G2|Westballz
  • MSF|La Luna
  • Tempo|S2J
  • ALG|N0ne
  • VGBC|Rishi
  • EGtv|Crush
  • Duck
  • KJH
  • Lucky
  • HugS
  • IloD

The Holiday Bash Smash Invitational will run from December 15th to 17th over on VGBootCamp’s Twitch channel, with the tournament having an initial group stage before transitioning into a 10-man bracket. For more details on this Christmas tournament, head on over to its official smash.gg page.

Who needs Excel? Shin Tanimoto shows off high damage, excel-less Street Fighter EX2+ combos for Sharon and Nanase

Did you think that Excels were the only source of truly disgusting damage in Street Fighter EX2+? Then you haven’t been watching the Excel-less Combo Series from Shin Tanimoto!

With Fighter Layer EX not far off, it’s both entertaining and enlightening to see the various ways you can manipulate ARIKA’s combo systems. As you can see from the infinites and meter-positive loops, juggle states are very flexible, and the game has some… creative interpretations of what counts as a cross up on wake up.

Mikado Arcade’s Super Street Fighter Carnival 2017 continues with “Far East of Eden: Kabuki Klash”

“Super Street Fighter Carnival 2017” marches on! SSFC2017 is the currently-ongoing Japanese tournament series at Mikado Arcade for a wide variety of classic (and sometimes, obscure) arcade titles. If you missed the first few tournaments from SSFC2017, there’s a lot to catch up on!

Last week’s game was the classic Vampire Hunter: Darkstalker’s Revenge. I doubt anyone needed a run-down of Capcom’s fighting pedigree, but this week’s game (and developer) are a little bit more on the obscure side.

Far East of Eden: Kabuki Klash was a 1995 2D fighting game by developer Racdym (now ‘Racjin’). It’s presentation contains bright colors, slick sprite animation and chaotic item interactions. The game’s interesting character designs are based on the “Far East of Eden” RPG series, which is more then a little ironic since the RPG series has never been released outside of Japan while Kabuki Klash has.

Enjoying SSFC2017? You can follow the action by subscribing to Mikado’s official YouTube channel, or you can even try to catch Mikado Arcade when they livestream!
