Pokkén Tournament DX balance patch 1.2 revealed at Evo Japan, patch notes released

Pokkén Tournament DX is already widely considered a balanced game by its community. Even still, we live in an age of constant tweaking to fighting games post-release, and Pokkén is no exception to that.

Upon first glance, it’s hard to believe there will be any major shifting in tiers — many of the changes are quality of life fixes, and a few acknowledgements of long-standing complaints in Pokkén: namely, Lucario losing his strangely “safe only in Burst” Up-Swing and Mewtwo’s Homing Attack losing at least some small amount of damage. Outside of these changes, Pokkén’s top tiers made it out of the patch largely unscathed.

Empoleon, Weavile, and Decidueye all received the largest amount of changes: Empoleon’s quality of life improved all-together with the polishing of his 5X and 6Y, Weavile finally isn’t completely locked into a hopeless gamble with jX in field, and Decidueye received a scattered list of damage nerfs and an improved lockdown tool with 4Y.

The biggest changes, by far, are to “Supports”, which is an important part of Pokkén’s meta. The overwhelmingly strong Jirachi has finally taken a hit, though to what extent its synergy gain reduction will have an impact on its selection by players will remain to be seen. Nearly every healing assist had its secondary buff reduced, and many offensive assists had their properties buffed in some way. This is almost certainly Namco’s way of saying “Please stop picking Jirachi and Eevee all the time.”

Let’s not forget that buffs to supports are also inadvertently buffs to the support-heavy Braixen. Time will tell if this list of changes accidentally gives the queen firefox Pokkén’s crown again.

Bad dad but still rad: Maximilian’s Jecht breakdown for Dissidia Final Fantasy NT

Jecht — Tidus’s cruel patriarch and demonic bane of the Final Fantasy X story. While he is certainly no recipient of any father of the year awards, there is a lot of hype and anticipation for his appearance in Dissidia Final Fantasy NT.

In response to popular demand, Maximilian Dood has added Jecht to his series of Dissidia Final Fantasy NT breakdown videos. Unsurprisingly, Max insists that Jecht is probably the game’s most aggressive character, and the footage of his attacks shows that he’s got an arsenal of heavy blows that look like they could blow away a Summon with ease.

In addition to his brute force, Jecht’s EX move is  a cancel mechanic, appropriately named the Jecht Cancel, that allows you to chain any of his moves together, should the timing and resources be adequate. Though familiar to anyone who plays classic fighting games, a cancel system of this nature is unique to Jecht in Dissida NT.

Jecht Cancels and more get broken down in Maximilian’s Square Enix-sponsored video, which you can check out right here:
